IPod Touch cannot connect to local Wi-Fi

So, iPod Tuch 4g with OS 5.1.1 finds my local router, but it just says "connection to network [...] failed".
MAC-filter is activated, but the iPod is authorized to connect. It doesn't work even if the filter is deactivated. It worked with no problems last week, no changes were made in the configuration of the router or the iPod. Solutions?

Actually the password has only 16 digits, it still only worked for simple 8-digit-one (and I tried it at least one dozen times, so miss-typing can be excluded).
The router was installed only one or two months ago, it's using WPA2-Personal.
After I changed SSID and password I was able to connect to the router.
But my question now is to re-type in the password for a known network, that has already been used. Obviously I had no WiFi-connection because the password changed...

  • IPod Touch cannot connect to wireless network

    I have a 1 TB, dual-band time capsule with a wireless network created to share our broadband internet connection for our main computer (the iMac), a windows PC, an iPhone 3G, and a 2nd gen iPod touch to connect to the internet. Wireless security for this network is WPA/WPA2 Personal. The windows box and the iPhone 3G connect without problem, but the iPod touch does not seem to connect correctly. The device sees the network, prompts for the password, and seems to be connected (wi-fi symbol visible in top left corner of device), but when trying to view a website using the Safari app, the screen dims and an endless "Connecting..." message is visible. Furthermore, when trying to update e-mail, I get a message that the connection to the server failed.
    It is worth noting that the iPod did not always have this problem. It was able to connect to the wi-fi network until a few weeks ago. This may have been due to the upgrade to Snow Leopard, or perhaps due to an incident where the windows PC lost its connection to the network. When this occurred, I had to disable all security on the network, connect the PC to the network, then re-enable security (as I had to do when first installing the Time Capsule; for whatever reason, the windows box had a hard time joining the network with security enabled). Anyway, one of these two events is the likely cause of the iPod suddenly being unable to connect; I'm sorry to say that I'm uncertain as to which one, because my wife uses the device sporadically, so we cannot pinpoint exactly when this difficulty started.
    As for attempted solutions, I tried resetting the iPod back to factory settings, only to have the same connection issues. I also changed the network security settings to None, and attempted to connect the iPod to the network (even though it should have no problem connecting to a secure network), but still no go. I am short on ideas for a fix, and would gladly welcome any advice the community has to offer. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Pretty much the same thing happened to me. My new Touch connects fine to my work wireless network (WEP64) - still does. But my home wireless network is SOL. I can join the router, wireless icon is in upper left corner (although gray, not green). I can even see the Touch from my router (Verizon FIOS). All other laptops in the house including wireless TiVo work flawlessly. I have not undone my security on my router yet - looks like it won't help. I have tried using static IP and I can still see iPod from router. But I cannot browse, go to AppStore, check email (which works great from work network), and have exact same error messages as above post. It has to be a security thing somewhere, I just didn't want to mess with router if I didn't have to. If I figure it out, I will post here........

  • I changed my Apple ID Username, but now my daughter's iPod Touch cannot connect and won't take the new sign-in protocols???

    I changed my Apple ID Username on my iMac, but now my daughter's iPod Touch cannot sign-in to iTunes, Apps, etc.. The old username sign-in doesn't work either. Apple Store Rep advised using iCloud to back-up her iPod, but have no experience with iCloud - have nevr used it on my iMac. Any info would be helpful.

  • Iphone 4s, ipad, and iPod touch cannot connect to google

    I have had problems with my iphone 4s since ios6 update.  But today, I cannot connect to internet with my iphone, ipad or daughters ipod touch.  The imac works fine.  Is there a google problem today?
    I type something in the search bar and it spins and spins and then says cannot connect to server.  Apps that connect or stream work fine.

    Problem Solved! WPA/WPA2 password is cAsE-SeNsItIve.
    This is a little insidious problem.
    I replaced my D-Link with my Time Capsule.
    In order to ensure compatibility, I kept my same 26-character hex password. For example: 1234567890ABC1234567890ABC
    So, when I setup my Time Capsule, I pasted it in exactly as shown.
    Well, on the iPod Touch when you enter the password, it displays the key entries in CAPS(!) even if it is not in CAPS mode. Additionally, it's a password. So the iPod touch masks the characters you enter. So, in reality I was entering:
    1234567890abc1234567890abc
    To make it work, I had to press the shift key for each non-numeric character.

  • IPod Touch cannot connect to my Wi-Fi router.

    I have a 16GB iPod Touch that I got about two months ago. I upgraded it to 2.0, and everything has been going smoothly. Suddenly, my internet just stopped working (Not because of the 2.0 version upgrade). I am using a Netgear router. I was able to go on the internet before fine, but ever since I reseted my iPod I am no longer able to go on the internet. I have looked around and have done many ways of getting it to work again: I've updated my router's firmware, reseted my iPod numerous times, forgetted my network and reconnected, restarted my router, etc, but it did nothing. When I was able to go online on my iPod, in the Wi-Fi settings, a check mark was there, and the little lock symbol disappeared once I inputted my password. However, even with putting in my password, the lock symbol is still there as well as the check mark. I am able to go online in Wi-Fi hotspots such as Starbucks and Coffee Bean.

    Hi,
    The lock symbol stays there even when connected, it does on mine at least.
    It does sound like you have tried most things. Have you tried turning off the security on the router temporarily and then seeing if it will connect, just to see if the security is the problem? Try WPA instead of WEP or vice versa. You could also try changing the broadcast channel, sometimes other routers nearby can use the same channel and cause interference.
    Thats all I can think of at the moment.
    Good luck,
    Dud.

  • IPod touch cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes Library

    Hi, I have just transferred my whole iTunes library from my old computer to my new one and am trying to sync my iPod to the new one. However I get an error message saying "iPod touch cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes Library (additional 5.38GB required). I currently have 8.5GB free on my iPod so I don't understand why it cannot sync.

    Hey Georgiarose94, If what's going on, is what I think it is, when you sync the information it's over written, it can take 2 to 3 times more space the get the info on your iPod, once it's there the info only occupies the space it needs. Kind if of like moving, when you first step in the room with boxes of stuff there's no room. But after you get everything put away all is well. If you haven't already, connect your iPod to your computer, from your iPod Summary page, go down to Options and check reduce bit rate to (select 128 kbps). (Wording maybe a little different). Will greatly reduce memory space needed on your iPod, and you really do not hear the difference in sound quality. Other option, go to music and select manual so you can pick which music you place on the iPod. You need to reduce by 5.38GB of information to finish your download. Hope this helps. Cheers.

  • "Podcasts on the iPod 'iPod touch' cannot be synced ....?????

    I'm getting a "Podcasts on the iPod 'iPod touch' cannot be synced because all of the podcasts selected for syncing no longer exist" pop-up when ever I sync.
    Here is a post that seems to addressing the same type of error message for a failed music sync but after reading it I'm not making any sense of how it might relate to the a problem with a podcast sync: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1788041.
    In a reckless attempt to fix the problem I deleted all the playlists which I created in iTunes, then deleted and resubscribed to the podcasts, and then did a sync. But the error still occurs and no podcasts were added to the iTouch (even though the newly resubscribed podcasts are in iTunes on my PC). I also found that I could download a podcast directly to the iTouch without having to subscribe to the podcast in iTunes. But I'd rather be getting the podcasts via the subscription feature that is in iTunes and then syncing them to the iTouch.
    Any ideas what is going on ?
    Thank you.

    After reading your post several times, I think I understand what you are saying, but can we just check the precise sequence of events, for (let's say) one Podcast episode?
    Are you:
    1. downloading the Podcast in iTunes;
    2. Syncing the iPod and therefore placing that Podcast on the Touch;
    3. Listening to the Podcast and then using the delete facility _on the Touch_ to delete that Podcast from the Touch;
    (3A. Adding more Podcasts (and/or music) to your iTunes Library;)
    4. Performing another Sync and getting the message "Podcasts on the iPod 'iPod touch' cannot be synced because all of the podcasts selected for syncing no longer exist"?
    Step 3A may or may not have occurred, it's not crucial. What is important to find out from you, are you deleting Podcasts on the Touch?
    Phil
    Oh, and by the way, if new Podcast are no longer being transferred to the iPod, has the setting for syncing Podcasts been changed? Look on the Podcasts pane when you connect the iPod to iTunes.

  • Why has my iPod Touch stopped connecting to my WiFi?

    Why has my iPod Touch stopped connecting to my WiFi?
    It's been fine for the past 2 years but today, it's stopped. It was working this morning...
    According to settings it has connected but I cannot access anything online and the internet icon is missing.
    WiFi is working on my phone & laptop so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the router. Also I've just synced my iPod with iTunes, reset and restarted - still no luck.
    Any suggstions?
    Thanks
