IPod Touch earphone jack stopped working.

The other day while traveling I was dumping some trash from my car into the trash can and actually dropped my iPod touch in. It was in there for about two minutes before I was able to find it and get it out. After cleaning it I turned it in and it worked fine. I plugged in my earphones and the left ear bud was not playing sound. I have to hold the bottom part of the earphones to the right in order to get sound to work in the left bud. I've checked the liquid indicator and, other than having some dirt on it it, was was white. So is there anything I can do to get the jack on the iPod? The earphones themselves work because I'm using them on my laptop.
Any help will be appreciated.

I have poked around in it. I'm afraid if I poke anymore I'll screw something up and it will void my warranty.

  • Anyone have trouble with ipod Nano earphone jacks stop working?

I have had 2 ipod Nano sice 2007 have earphone jacks that have sytopped working. My latest one was purchased in April 2010, and earphone jack stopped working 2 days ago. Anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks!!

I have done some experimenting and testing with my old Classic iPod that uses operating system 3.1.1. I don't think this operating system has changed. However, later generation iPods such as nano, shuffle that use a different operating system seem to work absolutely perfectly in my 2010 Lincoln Navigator, especially the ones without a hard drive (i.e. flash drive). My conclusion is that the Ford SYNC updates have somehow not been backward compatible with the older operating system. I know this can be attributed to Apple for part of the problem but I suspect that Ford somehow did not do enough testing with the older iPod operating systems. Turns out there are probably 7 or more operating systems on iPods and while you would assume that "backward compatibility" is a no-brainer, that seems not to be the case with second party vendors such as Ford SYNC. Personally, I have given up trying to solve this problem and have gone to flash drive and a "line in" option. My old Classic iPod works exceptionally well, plus I have a spare so I can probably use these thing till "H freezes over". Being a older retired American these things may actually last a life time!

  • My daughters imessage on her ipod touch has just stopped working - to get it going again I reset it with my email address but this doesn't allow her to send messages to any of her contacts.  When I try and put her email back in it says it can't verify it

My daughters imessage & face time on her ipod touch has suddenly stopped working.  The only way i could get it going again was to reset it up with my email address.  This will not allow her to send messages to any of her contacts in her addess book.  I have tried to set up her email (which she previously used successfully) but it will not allow this it states 'unable to verify email because it is already in use' - anyone any ideas its is driving me mad !!

    Try here:
iOS: FaceTime is 'Unable to verify email because it is in use'

  • The speakers on my iPod Touch 2nd generation stopped working.

The speakers on my iPod Touch 2nd generation stopped working.  The volume doesn't even register - can't turn it up or down.  On occasion the headphones will work when plugged in.  Turned it off and on, tried reset, nothing works.  I bought it second hand so no AppleCare. What can I do?

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  First from backup and if problem persists restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

Your iPhone has a one year warranty even without buying AppleCare. As long as the problem wasn't caused by damage you caused (e.g. dropping, water, etc) it should be covered. The following may help: https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/

  • I have and ipod touch 4g, it stop working out of nothing, tried everything..

i have and ipod touch 4g, it stop working out of nothing, i tried to restore, i plugged in to another computer and to the outlet wall and nothing, didnt drop it or got wet, someone told me that it happens sometimes with this ipod generation. what can i do? i bought it to years ago.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Touch Earphone Jack issue

    Hey guys.
I'm currently having a problem with my iPod Touch (1G, firmware 2.1). A few months ago, while I was listening to music with it (with both earphones), suddenly the left earphone "died" without warning. However, if I wiggled the cable around, the sound to the left earpiece came back. I found this very unusual. So I bought another pair of Phillips earphones and tried them, which worked perfectly for a day, before suffering the same fate.
So I continued to use the iPod in this condition. However, two days ago, the right earpiece went dead, and wiggling the cable wasn't much help. Tried another set of headphones, no luck. So in short, now I've got an iPod, without a working earphone jack.
So do you guys reckon I should get my iPod touch serviced, or should I just restore to see if there's any luck?

    Heylo,
Literally last week, my iPod Touch just did exactly the same thing! With the left earphone and everything.. little bit odd.
Anyway, get it serviced. Restoring it won't do much, it's not a software failure. They're usually very understanding, and the guys in the shop told me that it just happens occasionally, there's nothing you can do to stop it really. I took it down to the shop nearby last Wednesday, and I just got my replacement about an hour ago. Hoping to update it to 2.2, as long as it doesn't go wrong..
I found it a interesting that you said another set of headphones worked for a day or so.. I immediately assumed it was the headphones with mine (considering I'd just bought them I wasn't expecting them to go wrong..) so tried 3 other different sets of headphones, each of them doing the same thing. Just take it to get it serviced, they won't mind.
    Hope that helped.

  • IPod Touch 3G w/ stopped working with car stereo/docking speakers

After I upgraded to OS 4, my iPod Touch 3g stopped working through the USB port of my car stereo (just says "reading" and never progresses from there). It also stopped working through the docking station (basically a large clock radio) that I bought for my living room -- it will recharge and play music through the speakers but the docking station and its remote can no longer control the music (can't advance to the next song or anything else), so I have to physically change things on the ipod itself.
I was told by Crutchfield (where I'd purchased the car stereo) that this was a known problem with Apple -- that with OS4, many of the devices that previous worked with iPods no longer worked, and that this would be resolved in a later version of the OS that would provide some backward compatibility. However, I can't find anything at all about this.
If anyone knows more information about this, or has a link to where I might be able to read more, I'd appreciate the info. I selected and installed both the (almost new!!) car stereo and docking station specifically because they allowed me to connect and control my iPod, and now I've lost that functionality and the $$ I put into those devices (over $300 total)!

I apologize for posting a bit early.  Found an Alpine manual online and i needed to set the AUX port to off.  They also recommended a reset of the Touch.  After doing these two things it is now working.  Maybe this will help someone else.

  • IPod Touch Gen 1 Stopped Working

I have an iPod touch generation 1 and it just stopped working. It was working and I plugged it in to finish charging and when I woke up a few hours later it wouldn't turn on. It still won't turn on and doesn't appear in my iTunes. What do I do?

The iOS update made the iPod less tolerent of marginal/fake Lightning cables. All you can do is get a certified Lightning cable. I would get a genuine Apple cable.

  • My original ipod touch charger has stopped working?

I have a 32gb ipod touch 5th generation with an original ipod touch charger. It just stopped working one day and I couldn't charge my ipod anymore, I thought my charger was dead and broken so I decided to buy a new. It worked fine the first week, but then stopped working, is my ipod the problem? please help...

Was it a genuine Apple cable? If so then if it is defective Apple will exchange it at now cost. Same for the original cable if it was not abused and you purchased the iPod less than a year ago.

  • My iPod Touch 3G screen stopped working.

A few days ago, my iPod Touch screen stopped working.  I tried restoring it afterwards and it worked for about a day.  After that the screen became unresponsive again.  I did this again to see if it would make a difference but the same thing happened; it workes for a day and became unresponsive yet again afterwards.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
