IPod Touch electric shock.

I have an iPod Touch 4G. When I connect the usb to my computer and the 30-pin to my iTouch, it gives me electric shocks. As it is, the iPod Touch 4G has a metal back, and it really conducts the current. Fortunately, i have a rubber case for the back, so it won't hurt me. I removed thee 30-pin and the charge is at the two sides and the top of the pin. Ok, I tried to lick it, there is still the current. But there is no current when I connect the cable to the USB Wall Adapter. Does anyone know why there is so much current?

Since no problem with a wall charger that suggests a problem with the USB port on your computer.

  • IPod Touch aluminum shocking issue

    Hello.
Let me begin. I am a faithful Apple consumer. I have owned many Apple devices over the years. An iPod Touch 1st, 2nd, and 4th generation, an iPad 1st generation, and an iPhone 4S. I have never encountered this issue with any of those. However, with my iPod touch 5th gen, things changed. I plugged in my iPod Touch 5g to charge it. It was all going good until I washed my hands. My hands were still a bit wet, and I went to go do something on the iPod. However, whenever I picked up the iPod, I received a nasty shock. It caused me to immediately drop the device. I did NOT grab the iPod anywhere near the Lightning connector. I grabbed it near the top of the device, where the aluminum body is scratched heavily. It seems to me like the bright shiny aluminum underneath the top layer of metal will shock anyone who touches it with wet hands, even if it is just a small area. I am worried about why this occured. I have never encountered this on any other generation of Apple device. On top of that, upon rubbing my hand lightly upon the back of the device, I can slightly feel the electricity of the device being charged. It feels almost as if the device is vibrating, but that is impossible as the iPod touch doesn't have a vibration motor in it. Maybe it's just static electricity from the charging. I'm not sure. It does not go away no matter how much I rub it.
To do a bit further tests, I licked (yes, licked - the tongue is a very sensitive muscle and is always wet. On top of that, the iPod was cleaned thorougly beforehand to ensure I didn't get any bacteria from licking it) a scratched spot on the top left of the device, opposite the Lock button. Talk about a very painful experience. I almost dropped the device from the pain felt in my tongue. I can accurately recreate this effect every time. However, I cannot get the iPod to shock me with just wet hands again. I know this is not just static - if I hold my tongue on the spot, it constantly shocks. It's as if the power from the charger is channeling through the aluminum body itself.
This entire ordeal is very worrying - this type of metal body is used on all new Apple devices, and if someone else were to be using something like an iPhone 5 or iPad Mini while it is charging with wet hands it could seriously shock them. I don't know if this is just my device, or if this is an isolated incident. Either way, it has made me afraid to touch the thing while it is charging.
I am using the official iPod touch Lightning cable that came with the device, as well as the official Apple USB wall plugin. These are all official Apple things I'm using, which rules out the possibility of it being an unofficial charger issue.

    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Bring the cable, iPod and wall charger.

  • BOSE Mk1 Soundock & 1st Gen iPod Touch + Electric/Static Noise**

I have recently bought a Bose Mk1 Soundock for my 1st Gen iPod Touch, at first worked fine, brilliant lil gadet, but then it started to generate a reeeely high pitched electric/static noise when the battery was fully charged when music was both on or off, i returned and got an exchange for a brand new bose which didnt solve the problem so i can only assume its the ipod, so i put in a service request with apple, off it went and came back 'un-repaired' as apple 'could not reproduce the problem/s'?? since then it has started generating this noise regardles of battery level or music on/off and is reely, reely, reely annoying and is rendering the unit virtually unusable with the bose, am i the only one who can hear this or is anyone else having/had the same problem??!?

    Hey
    Is it this noise:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqeggo7DSGg
If so, I'm having the same problem. I've emailed B&W support about it. It doesn't occur without the ipod docked. Doesn't seem to be a problem with other docks though, so it could be fixable with a firmware update. In fact, it wasn't ever a problem with the original Zeppelin firmware, only after the update.

  • IPod gave electric shock!

Three weeks ago i bought 30gb video iPod. And in these two weeks i got shocked by iPod two times. It occured when i connected ipod to my PowerMac G5. But i haven't got shocked at work (MacPro) where i connect and disconnect it more oftenly. Is this bad for iPod or is it my G5? I've noticed that after the shock my mac was giving a little electricity shock.
    Thanks for help!

Even though you have checked the first obvious signs, there is something wrong in Denmark (a fish, as they say.) There has to be a grounding issue. I will go to an electrical specialist we have on staff, I do not see him here today, but will get back to this thread if he has a suggestion. A person in our audio department says "get it fixed, or get rid of it, that is dangerous." I tend to agree with him. We do want to see you back here posting in good health.
Don't make us worry and please see if you can get someone to look at the situation. I also have questions: Are you the only one being shocked? Are there any atmospheric anomalies in your area right now (atmospheric, humidity etc.) Let me know.

  • Aluminum iMac + iPod Classic = Electrical Shock!

If I happen to touch the aluminum case of my iPod Classic and either the iMac's aluminum frame or the aluminum keyboard, I get a nice 110-volt AC shock. The iPod isn't generally connected to the iMac--it's connected only to a sound system through the headphone outlet. It's not connected to an AC power source.
Anyone have an idea what's happening? The iMac is grounded. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Your welcome!
The following outlet testers will only test grounded outlet circuits.
    http://electrical.hardwarestore.com/15-62-circuit-voltage-testers/receptacle-tes ter-281667.aspx
To test polarized (ungrounded) circuits in an older home you really need a multi meter and a ground source or a Non-Contact tester to check for proper polarity.
    http://electrical.hardwarestore.com/15-62-circuit-voltage-testers/non-contact-ci rcuit-alert-154716.aspx
Have a look at the following article, it shows the difference between a grounded and polarized (ungrounded) household circuits.
    http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/electric/hsehld.html
Also note: that for both grounded and polarized (ungrounded) outlets the 110v a/c power should be coming from the smaller of the two blade slots.

  • Electric shock fom iPod touch....

    Hi
Okay so I plugged my iPod into the wall to charge whilst doing so I went on to the Internet to check something out. Then I received a massive electric shock when I locked my iPod. Is there anything I can do to prevent this as it has happened lots before???
    Many thanks,
    Anna.

Could be a problem with the charger or iPod.  Does it happen with another wall charger
    With your computer?
If it is the iiPod, then I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod touch giving electric shocks while charging

While charging the Ipod touch 4g i am receiving a small current behind the back of the ipod touch. Its been a yeasr or so that i have this device and it started a few days ago to give electirc shock..
I am little worried about the ipod touch getting spoiled. please suggest for the necessary precaution..

Take it (and the cable you use to charge it) to the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple store.  Have them evaluate it, and they can let you know what your options/costs may be for repair or replacement.

  • ELeCtrIc SHOCK!!! from connecting my ipod to tv

I bought my Ipod-5th generation (80Gb)about 6 months ago and didn't buy the AV connection kit until a month ago. Just recently, I found that everytime I plug in the AV cable to my TV, there is an elEcTriC SHOCK whenever I touch the back (metal) cover of my Ipod (I hold my ipod on one hand while plugging in the cable). I immediately unplug the cable just in case it will damage my Ipod. However, I didn't give up and I tried a couple of times, ended up having the same problem (getting shocked a couple of times too).
I wonder what's wrong with my Ipod or is it a problem of the AV cable? Should I keep trying until I get immuned by the current shock.
Is anyone having the same problem or knowing what the problem or solution is?
    Help is much appreciated.
    Thanks
Let me know if there is any further information required.

It's not the iPod and it's not the cable. It's your TV.
In Malaysia, does your AC mains power plug fit in the receptacle one and only one way? If it fits only one way, then the problem that I'm thinking of can not happen. However, *IF you are able to rotate the plug* and insert it differently, try that and see if it helps.
If it's not the power plug, your TV has a serious problem.
+*By the way, DON'T try to use your iPod with the TV until this is resolved!*+

  • Electric shock while charging IPod Nano 3rd Gen

    Hello.
I bought a new IPod Nano 3rd Generation (4 gigabytes) and I noticed that, if I touch it while it's connected to my PC, it gives me an electrical shock. It's not a hard shock, but you can feel your finger shake and your arm weakens (it's kinda funny. xD)
To experience this, you mustn't have shoes, obviously.
I'd like to know if this is natural or if I should change it for a new one.
I believe it's something bad because the IPod runs out of battery quickly, but I play Solitaire a lot, so I don't know if it's my fault. :s
Thanks, in advance, for your answer.
    Pedro Tomé

BTW this same problem came up back in August and then I suggested to the poster that a bad line cord might be the issue. Turns out that is exactly what it was...

  • Ipod Electric Shock

    Hi.
I got my Ipod for Christmas so its new and when i plug it into the computer (pc) to charge, somtimes when I touch it (mostly when my feet are of the ground) I get and electric shock ranging from weak-to-medium. The shock goes for about 2 seconds and goes all the way up my arm.
Is this a "normal" thing that happens with all Ipod Touches?
Is it damaging my screen or battery life at all?
Should I swap it for a new one?
    Thanks for your replies

A wire in the iPod must have come loose and is touching the case. You must take that to an Apple Retail Store to be checked.
Unlikely. I would expect the issue to be a problem with the grounding of the computer being used. In any event, the poster should have the problem investigated.

  • Ipod 4 giving me electric shocks

When my ipod touch gen4 is plugged into the wall charger it gives me an electric shock. I have been to apple and swapped my ipod for a new one and that ipod is doing exactly the same, i also tried a different wall adaptor, usb cord and different powerpoint and the ipod is still giving me a shock. This shock has also gotten stronger when i downloaded iso6 to my ipod. Has anyone else had the same problem?

Ungrounded wallsockets should not be fatal for a MacBook Pro as long as there aren't too many surges and spikes in the powergrid where you live. If you don't have a choice in using ungrounded sockets, or if you're getting static electricity shocks even when you are using a grounded wallsocket, you could look towards solutions like these:
    http://www.amazon.com/b?node=1069150
Alternatively, you could get a surge protector http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keyw ords=Surge+Protection&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3ASurge+Protection

  • Get Electric Shock While I Touch My PowerBook

I always get electric shock while I touched my powerbook.
Although it is a minor shocks, but it happens frequently.
    I go crazy about that.
My parents touch me while I am using it,
they can feel that there is current flow into my body.
They tell me that it is harmful to me.
I bought it with applecare, and it is still under warranty.
I need some expertise advise on how should I deal with my PowerBook.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I've found this is most common a problem if you don't use the grounding outlet that came with your power cord. That means you need to use a three prong connector to the wall, instead of a two.
The next most common issue is if you walk across a carpet or wet floor, you will pick up static electricity. It is a good idea to discharge your static electricity before touching the computer by touching a desk or other object connected to the floor.
One time I walked across a wet carpet because of a flood, touched a computer keyboard, and fried the computer with my static electricity.

I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store because of the shock issue. I doubt it was caused by the update.

    hi
i am getting electric shock while charging my itouch

Also, do yo get it when charging with a wall charger?
    A computer USB port?
Could be a problem with the cable (as mentioned by kylewont) or the charging source or the iPod.
An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store maybe in order.
