IPod touch erased when I updated and synced it on a different operating system. Forgot password to backup file. Windows 7 is a bust for the newest version of itunes. Tired of fooling with it, so I tried to update and sync ipod to hubby's laptop.
Sooooooo sick of trying to fix the bug with the newest version of itunes and Windows 7. I'm over it. Tried syncing ipod to hubby's laptop. When update and sync was complete, all my apps, music, and pictures were gone. When I open my itunes account on his computer, they are gone from there as well. I cannot open itunes on my computer because I cannot fix the compatability issue. Don't tell me how to go to 'computer', click 'program files' etc. etc...... Did that, unchecked compatability mode and nothing is fixed. About to take a hammer to darned thing.
Also, I have forgotten the password to my backup file, which could solve everthing. I don't really remember ever setting a password for the backup file. Tried every password I've ever used with this device.

Is there an update for the newest version of iTunes. This option "File > Display Duplicates" no longer appears as an option under "File." How to manually sync podcasts or music to an iPod using the newest version of iTunes? Please advise. Apple's i nstructions still say to drag to the iPod icon under "devices" on the left, but that's no longer there. The iPod word appears in the upper right but won't let me drag to it.

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

As said in the question, my ipod touch will not connect to the newest version of itunes. When I plug it in, my compter recognizes that a device has been connected, yet it will not show up in itunes. I didn't have this problem until I just updated to the new itunes. Someone help please!

I bought my son a 1st generation Ipod touch off of Ebay. We set it back to factory settings and downloaded the newest version of itunes. Whenever he tries to download any apps it says "can not connect to itunes" I have checked the wifi connection and that is working (he can get on safari) and we have the newest version of windows. The newest version of iTunes deletes all of my iPod Touch 5th gen audible and visual media when I delete or add music or video to my library and add it to my device manually. Why? I guess the question speaks for itself. I have the latest version of iTunes and iOS 8.2 on my iPod Touch.
If it's any consolation i've just had a similar thing happen. Went to add a playlist and it wiped 35 gig of music off my iPod touch 64g in a nanosecond. I've got the latest iTunes and osx but do not back up because i keep different styles of music (and loads of it) in separate libraries and devices which i don't want mixed together. All my stuff is burned from cd so it's not lost for good and i've got a hard drive with the "lost" mp3 music on it but even so it will take literally weeks to prune the tracks for my iPod to be the same again. Why do they make it so difficult to manage your music on these things. I have massive amounts of music on my computer so autofill is a disastrous unusable gimmick to me. The whole thing seems to be aimed at 9 year old kids with about 6 mp3's on their phone rather than serious music lovers (for example accessing EQ is a joke let alone the lack of a manual option). I'm a dj and use apple for that reason but to be honest i'm beginning to wonder why. I'm absolutely livid. The weird thing is that my mac still shows the titles of the missing tunes in the 'on my device' window but as my macbook storage display shows no increase i'm pretty sure it's all gone. Nightmare. I have no confidence in this device anymore and could barely use the previous osx 8.2 anyway. Why they have to change it every ten minutes is beyond me. As the old saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but this format just gets more broken every time they update. An absolute disgrace. Why not just drag and drop or delete. No wonder the iPod is said to be a dying device, it's for music, it is not a phone. Not fit for purpose anymore. I can't be bothered to read a massive 'how to use' article every update. Good technology should be easier and more intuitive with each new version. I suppose i'll have to phone apple at my expense to find out what's going on, or maybe that's the whole idea. Very very very not happy.

After I clicked and downloaded the newest version of itunes I no longer am able to connect with the store. I get an error (-32-12) and it says to check the connectivity. The problem is with the on line connection. I attempted to reload itunes , still the same problem exists.

I transfered my I tunes library to my new laptop using a thumb drive. I downloaded the newest version of Itunes to my new computer. My old ITUNES library of songs and books came across just fine. I can play them on the new laptop but they won't sync with my Ipod. The Itunes shows no devices when I hook it up to the laptop. Windows recognizes that the IPOD is hooked up. But no connection with ITUNES. Did I make a mistake in trying to sync my Itunes purchases to the new laptop before transfering the old library into the new ITUNES. If so how do I undo the problem. Please help. I use a PC with Windows XP.

I downloaded the newest version of itunes and ever since I've been having problems. When I connect my iphone to itunes, it will say its synced up, however when i'm trying to add music its just not allowing it to happen.
Also when I try to restore the Iphone or check for updates, It says connect via USB to check for updates or restore. The same with attemting to sync apps
I've reinstalled itunes several times and removed and reinstalled my portable devices. And still nothing. When I first plug the iphone in, it will to that auto play Windows 7 does and allows pictures to be saved onto the PC.
It seems like the syncing is working with some things and now others. Any idea's would be delightful??I feel its more of my sync drivers for itunes/iphone not working if that makes sense. Its not my itunes that stops responding, its more of that if the phone syncs up it fails to anything further.
I've tried sync another iphone to the same itunes and windows autoplayer will allow the photos sorted on the iphone to be saved to the laptop but itunes won't even recongise the device is plugged in.
