  • Failed to restore iPod touch (Error code 9)

Few days after upgarding my iPod touch to iOS 5, I got a message on the iPod saying I need to connect to iTunes.
After connecting to teh iPod to the PC, the iTunes says I need to restore the device.
I tried to restore few times with no success - each time the follwoing message is displayed:
"The iPod could not be restored. An unkown error occured (9)".
How can I restore the iPod back to normal operation ?
    Roy

Try this, copied from Update and restore error messages on iPhone and iPod touch
Error 9: This error occurs when the device unexpectedly drops off the USB bus and communication stops. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB isolation troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • Ipod touch error 1604. i need this fixed!!

ok. i have a big problem with my touch
my ipod touch is frozen or broken or something. and this is awful
it won't restore or anything. when i turn it on, it shows the itunes w/ the cable. but when i try to restore it in itunes, theres an error. its like 3 weeks old and i love it. it was jailbroken
    please help me!

*Edit: If your iPod remains jailbroken (in it's currently inoperatable state) - then returning/exchanging or refunding the product is going to be tricky. By modifying the software, you broke Apple's Software & End User Agreement's between you and Apple which states modification of software of any kind will result in you voiding your warranty. Now ... normally this wouldn't matter, as restoring would make it look like you hadn't jailbroken, but seen as though you can't do anything with it. Your stuck. :/*
From previous articles and threads on these boards, iPod touch error 1604 suggests faulty hardware.
I wish I could help you further, but Apple do not provide a list of error messages, what they mean, or a resolution on a error-to-error basis.
I would contact Apple support for a solution. Failing that i'd return your iPod for a full refund, and a discount off your next one for the trouble.

  • New ipod touch, Error: "The device can not be read or written to."

I don't know what else to do!
I also have an Ipod touch that just doesn't sync. When I connect the Ipod and launch Itunes to sync, it tells me that the device can not be written to:
It just doesn't snyc at all. It's brand-new, out of the box and just doesn't work. And it's not my first ipod, so I know how to handle Itunes.
That's what i've tried so far without success to solve the problem:
    * restored the touch hundreds of times, both in recovery and DFU mode and within the touch software
    * upgraded to firmware 1.1.4, downgraded back to 1.1.3, then to 1.1.2. and back to 1.1.4 - no change!
    * installed several different ITunes Versions and different Apple Mobile Device Services
    * tried MediaMonkey BETA with Ipod Touch support (this just creates 0kb files on the touch, but it also uses the mobile device service, so i guess the failure is somewhere there)
    * tried 4 different Windows XP systems with Itunes at my home and at friends (same error there as well)
    * restored my Windows XP with a recovery version and reinstalled Itunes completely from scratch
    * created a new user account in Windows XP and tried it with this one
    * launched Itunes with Internet switched off
    * used different USB ports - both 1.1 and 2.0
    * disconnected all USB devices
    * registered the necessary DLLs manually
    * last week, I sent the ipod to Apple (they claim that everything is fine and the problem is just me and my computer and sent it back without change)
I don't have an apple in reach, so i'm not able to test it with an apple computer. There is also no apple store here in the country side of Germany.
What else can be done? I know there are hundreds, that have the same problem but I don't know any more things to try. Now i have a 300 bucks touch i can not use as mp3 player...

As I said, i did that! Quote:

Today I got it back and nothing changed. I tried to call Apple Germany, but after i waited over 1,5 hours on the waiting line, i gave up.

  • Ipod touch error message-"attempting to copy to the disk "dad" failed....

I have an 8 gb ipod touch. My ipod is called "dad". I have dragged songs from the library to my music and will receive the error message "attemtping to copy to the device 'dad' failed. the device is not connected. I can see the device on itunes...not sure why it is seen as not connected. Note one thing. If I unplug my ipod or turn it off and on it will work for 5 or 10 songs properly...and then stop working and give me the error message above. I have tried restoring on iunes and that did not work. Does anyone else have any advice

i am also having this problem. i have only tried with apps and music. it starts to sync, does a couple, then just disappears from itunes. the ipod touch still says sync in progress though.
i have tried restoring multiple times, i have tried doing it in dfu mode, tried different ports. its a 1g 16gb ipod touch.
i see im not the only one having this problem. so what is the solution apple?
i love how its our fault. i have always taken good care of my ipod. if i take it to an apple store they would not repair whatever is wrong because my warranty ended in november.

  • HELP!! IPOD  TOUCH ERROR 28

A coupple days ago, my ipod suddenly flashed the "connect to itunes" logo on it. So I connected my ipod touch to itunes and clicked on the restore button. Durong the middle of restoring, an error message appeared with the error code 28. I looked on apple at the resolution for error code 28 but i was not able to get my ipod touch to restore. Please, please, please help me.

Error 23, 28, 29, 1011, 1012, 1611: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article and also attempt to restore while connected to a known-good computer and network to isolate this issue to the device. If the IMEI or MAC address is missing or is a default value, this can also confirm a hardware issue.

  • Ipod Touch error 13019

Hi, can anyone help please?? My daughter has an 8gb 2nd generation iPod Touch and out of the blue, I have the error message stating it could not sync error 13019.
I have looked all over the internet and tried various solutions that other people have had with this, including full restore, deleting iTunes and re-loading it, syncing without music and then again with music and deleting the option for voice...nothing works.
I am operating on Windows Vista and all other iPods we own seem to be working and syncing fine.
I have tried the apple express support and it hasn't worked...they suggested the full removal of iTunes and hours later...and a full re-load, it still didn't work!
If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it as it would save me a 40 mile drive to my nearest Apple store.
    Many thanks,
    Steve.

  • Ipod touch error 2001

I found my son's long lost 16GB iPod Touch (lost for over a year) and it won't charge. Cycles through the low battery charge screen to the apple screen and back around again. Trying to restore it in recovery mode in iTunes and get "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (2001)." I have done everything that error 2001 tells you to do but still it won't charge, won't connect to iTunes. HELP!
I have stared the status screen down in iTunes, it extracts software, verifies the ipod with apple, prepares it for restore and when it verifies RESTORE with Apple I get the error.
I think it's a Gen2, only because I can't get it on to see what it is! Last time I had it on, before I did a full restore via the iPod's software (not iTunes) the date is December of 1969 and in Houston (I'm in LA). I run iTunes 10.4.1 (10) and OS 10.5.8

Try a manual install, as outlined in link below.

  • IPod Touch Error: 1604

Anyways whenever I connect my iPod Touch to my computer now it would say that it's in recovery mode and needs to be restored. I can only turn my iPod on via hard reset and cannot exit recovery. The only solution I've found into resolving this error is to drain the battery of the iPod (which is very hard because it shuts off due to inactivity) and then plug it in and charge it. This seems to get rid of the error for the time being, but soon after recharging the iPod it will come back again with the same error. I've tried all the solutions found on the support page for error 1604, but none seemed to work. If anybody has any other solutions please post them. If you don't have a solution, could you tell me if Apple will offer a replacement for faulty hardware? The 90-day warranty that came with the product has just expired, so it's kind of stressful.

So here's the latest: I sent the Touch back to Apple, and they tested it and couldn't reproduce the problem! They made sure the firmware was up to date and sent it back to me. I got it from DHL and it turned on fine -- of course, not being synched with my computer, it didn't have my stuff o it, but it was working. So I plugged it into my MacBook Pro to get my music etc on it again, and what do you know! It goes into needs-to-be-restored yet again, and yet again, ends up with the 1604 error! (If you heard swearing around that time today, that was me.)
So I tried a new tack: if the ipod met factory specs and was fine, according to Apple, then it must be my MacBook Pro. This put me in a completely different queue. We tried everything, including trashing the "iPod Software Updates" folder from inside the Library/iTunes directory for my login and rebooting. So by this time, it's dinner time, and I have to go, and the support person said she'd look into it some more and call me back. When she did, I was still at dinner, but she told me one last thing to try, and she'd call me back before the end of her shift, and this is it:
When the iPod is plugged in and iTunes displays the window for the iPod with the Summary tab and two buttons, one to "Check for Update" and one to "Restore", click the "Check to Restore" button. I told her, even though I wasn't at my machine, that I knew it was greyed out, or else I would have tried it in the past. She said to try clicking it anyway. So when I came home, I plugged it in, got the screen and tried clicking the grey "Check for Update" button. Nothing. sigh So, for the heck of it, I then clicked the "Restore" button (isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results??), only this time the "restore" progress text began including things like "checking software" and "checking restore" or something like that -- text I hadn't seen before. And lo, the restore appears to have taken! The iPod mounted. I'm syncing it now -- fresh, not from a saved profile. Software 1.1.4 with the Software Upgrade. Whether it will "take" and the thing won't just conk out on me tomorrow again and demand restoration yet again, well, that's another matter, but I have not seen ANYTHING about clicking on the grey "Check for Update" button in ANY of the instructions I've encountered before, so I needed to post this while I was feeling optimistic.

  • Unable to Transfer Rented Movies to iPod Touch (error 5103)

I just rented a movie to test it out on my iPod Touch. Problem is when I go to sync my iPod it wont transfer to my iPod. It will start the transfer and almost finish then I get this error message...
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/roodog/ipoderror.jpg
Any known reasons why I may be getting this error? I've tried many times. I have a fully updated Touch and iTunes.

I have tried the method of authorizing my computer and then initiating transfer purchases method yet my purchases were not transfered. I was told Apple can put your purchases in a certain place for you to retrieve them in your I-tunes account.
Is there any way you can help me with this problem?

  • IPod Touch errors (2002) and (14)

I got error (14) while I was trying to update my Moms iPod Touch (1st Gen) to the latest iPhone software on my computer. I kept trying to update it and it said the same thing. So I gave up and went to try it on her computer, now when I tried to update it on hers it said error (2002). I would like to know how to fix these problems if I can, and also what they are.

Ok. I have spent the last 8 hours researching this problem and have the absolute 110% answer to everyone's problem with this issue.
Error 13 and 14 : Are checksum problems with the firmware image that is in the update package.
The update package is a .ipsw (IPod or IPhone SoftWare). This file is actually just a .zip renamed .ipsw.
The error is caused by a failure to download a crc-free version of the file. Not really sure why there are so many crc problems with the iphone updates, but Apple does not check the integrity of the update package before wiping your current version of IPhone software and that is why all IPhones that start an update with a bad update package end up in recovery mode. These errors are NOT related to the iTunes installation, antivirus software, or firewalls.
Recommendation : use a program like "Object Fix" (Freeware) to verify the integrity of the file prior to commencing with any new updates. You will have to keep trying to download it until you get a error free file. Once you have a CRC error free file this problem will go away. (I thought TCP/IP helped get rid of CRC errors.)
I had another problem and that was...
Error 1603 and 1604 : These are USB driver connectivity problems.
Recommendation : FULLY uninstall and re-install itunes software as stated in the Apple support documentation. Be sure to reboot between each step and these problems should clear themselves up. In addition, firewalls and anti-virus software may cause these errors as well.
Finally, shame on apple for not properly documenting their software so that end users do not have to decrypt their error messages with no true support to solve the issues. These are problems that enough people have had that there should be specific documentation on these problems.

    hi
the other night whilst listening to a podcast my touch just switched off. when i turned it back on all my songs podcasts and videos were missing. i went plugged my touch into the computer and again there were no songs present within my touch. however the itunes software said 11.53GB had been taken up by "other" and were only 3GB free, it also said this on ipod. i tries resetting from ipod but with no success, i then tried to restore on the computer but after downloadinbg the software the computer said there was a firmware error with my ipod. my ipod is on firmware 1.1.1
    any help would be appreciated
    thanks
    dave

    Hi addvi,
The "Other" category, normally should represent the Upgrades and firmwares you've installed, notes, calender informations...
However, sometimes your iPod's memory can become corrupted, probably as the result of an interrupted sync.
The unique way to get around this is to Restore the iPod Touch. Sorry for any inconvenient, this may cause you!
Once, you can't restore the iPod, try doing it on another computer.
    Hope this helps!
