Ipod touch file transfer

Since I can't do bluetooth file transfer from my  iPod Touch I want to try another method.  I know I can use Safari to ftp to my Mac Mini server so is there any way to traverse the IOS file system so I can "put" my photos to my server?

You can use icloud to sync pics taken with the ipod to the computer, or you can import tham as you would from any digital camera using the cable.

Would like to move iPod touch files to my new Windows 8 computer -- read on how to do this, but this involves being able to see the hidden fiels -- but can not see hidden files...any suggestions. Would like to transfer these files from iPod Touch to new laptop without software -- is that possible -- if not can anyone recommend a good free software to use?

There is no way to do so without software. I recently had a similiar task and was suggested to use iExplorer. It worked like a charm.
Refer to this page for iExplorer
Here is the page I was helped with on this task for reference: Export Songs

  • Ipod Touch (2g) Transfer Issues

I'm on Windows 7 RTM, when it comes to moving content from my PC to my IPod I have no issues, everything transfers just fine.
When transferring content from my ipod to my pc however, there are constant issues with the transfer freezing and what appears to be the driver for ipod simply 'locks' or similar.
This is an example of what happens:
I connect my ipod, load up itunes
I goto 'Transfer Purchases' as I've just bought some songs
It begins transferring the purchases lets say it transfers 1 file completely
During the next file the bar will freeze at some point
On my Ipod itself the 'sync' message dissapears as if the Ipod was no longer plugged into the computer, the computer and itunes application still think my Ipod is plugged in, even if I were to disconnect it.
It should also be noted that, after this occurs itunes does not start, and ultimately to get functionality back I must restart the computer.
I'm wondering if anyone has encountered similar issues and knows how to correct this?

  • Ipod touch library transfer?

I have a ipod touch. About a month ago my old computer crashed. That was the computer that my I-Tunes with my I-Pod Library was stored. I now have an I-Pad. What will happen when I plug my I-Pod touch into my new I-Pad with the same I-Tunes account? Will the library transfer or will I have to rebuild. Do I have any way of backing up my I-Tunes library from I-Pad?

    Welcome to the discussions,
you need to connect to a computer to sync your device. If you have to sync to a new iTunes library, your device will be erased during the first sync. But you can perform a manual backup to transfer your data and copy your bought apps and media by selecting File->transfer purchases in iTunes.
Disable autosync before you connect in iTunes/Settings/Devices.
Music you did not buy in iTunes will only copy to your computer if you use 3rd party software, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0
To back up manually, make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

  • How do I set up IPod Touch files on a new computer

I have an IPod touch and have purchased a new computer with Windows 7.
Do I need to download ITunes first? What files should I copy to my new computer to make sure my IPod and computer will sync?
I'm working with two separate Profiles.
Last time I  had a computer problem, I worked days trying to get my IPod to sync only to find that the Photo file was in the wrong place. Don't want to go through that again.
    Thank you very much.
    Rustyglo

Thank you for your response. I have all of my files, etc. and am sitting here on the old computer. I just wasn't sure if I should simply save the iTunes program I am using or insall a new version.
After I get iTunes onto my new computer do I authorize the new computer before I plug in my IPod or after?
I'm sorry I didn't point out that I had all of my files available. For some reason, working with iTunes and my iPod make me nervous.
    Thanks again.

  • Ipod Touch Photo Transfer

    HI;
Part 2: I understand there is no direct transfer available at this time for photos. However, what I have found is that with my phone I can take 2megapixel photos and e-mail them or put in a microsd card from a camera and upload them to an e-mail address. They come through onto the Ipod touch promptly, and look excellent in the web browser.
When I save them, I lose all the resolution and they look horrible from the photos app.
So now all I am looking for is a way to save my photos from mail in there regular resolution.
    Thanks so much
    Jamie

what do you mean by 'no direct transfer' for photos?
you can directly transfer them from you computer to your ipod, syncing them like you do everything else.
the resolution of photos obtained on the ipod touch is a common problem (though not one i have encountered personally). the latest update claimed to fix this, some people said it worked, others say it didn't. unfortunately there may be nothing you can do about this - other than feedback to apple to let them know it is still happening.

edit: ok, i've see your original post about 'direct transfer'.

  • Iphone files replaced by ipod touch file

I have a ipod touch and my computer has connected with my ipod touch before. Recently, I bought a iphone and connected with my computer. I think I choose the wrong selection so the file in my iphone was gone and replaced by the file in my ipod touch. Is there anyway I can get my file back?

If there are thousands of files that need to be renamed, you can use Unix to take care of that quickly. If you know any system admins, ask them to help you write a script, or poke around the web a little bit or even post this problem in the Unix forum (ask for Gary!) -- this is a common task.
AppleScript is also built for this kind of thing.
There are also good utilities out there like "A better finder rename" <http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/index.html> that will do this for you, but you wil probably have to pay the $25 shareware fee.

can you share files between a macbook and an ipod touch?

    Hello,
In simple terms you can email files to yourself to view on the iPod touch but you can't edit them. Have a look at this application and see if it does what you're after:

  • How to set up a new iPod Touch and transfer data from old IPod Touch

ok, it's Friday night, I finished the cheese and about 1/2 a bottle of wine (myself...  not ideal for a smurf my size) and I still can't find the answer to my question after searching [to the best of my most current ability] all over the forums (I even searched long before I started drinking wine). I appologize right now for my ignorance and inability to find the answer on my own.... but could someone PLEASE, just tell me the best way to kill my daughter's Ipod Touch 2nd Gen (advertised as Gen 3, ha, ha, on me), and set up her new-(to-us) Ipod Touch Gen 4? I've already backed up her old device to my computer?  (it's a PC - sorry, it's free from my husband's office)
Do I set up her new-ish Gen 4 as a "new device" or "restore from back up?" She's young enough (grade school - & why she gets old/cheaper HW) that we both still uses my iTunes acct for her device and mine so that I own & can monitor/manage the music that we both listen to... but this time I'll set up her own iCloud acct.  Although the new device (let's call it device B) has been wiped clean from the last user, how do I set it up? New device or restore from bk up? Now that she saved up the $ I paid for it, to pay me, she's driving me crazy about getting it going for her. Her orig/current device, iPod Gen 2ish (we can refer to that as device A) has been backed up to my computer and I'd like to port all of her data (calendar, contacts, pictures/movies, etc) to her new device.  Please help this old mom... my girl is driving me crazy... and I feel bad not delivering her goods.  Many thanks.

  • Zen Touch - file transfer sta

using winmedia player, as well as the conventional explorer extension, no difference.
copying a batch of files to the Zen... a file (few/none - sporadically) gets copied, the next one stalls halfway, and gets skipped. all consecuti've files do not get copied.
i've encountered this a few times already. did a disk cleanup / library rebuild several times, it helped. now it does not...
    free disk space ~9Gb.
    any ideas ?

this does not seem to be the case.
after a computer reboot and yet another player cleanup, the same files were uploaded successfully. i'm even sure that file content does not matter a bit.
using one or another program for file transfer does not change anything either, because they all use the same creative drivers that provide the API. even notmad explorer can not function without them. it's not a surprise that if WMP0 fails, so does the nomad explorer.
the problem seems to be 00% software-originated. creative's software is junk - clumsy custom UI, crippled functionality, obviously bad implementation - i honestly tried to use it (all of it, organizer, explorer, media source, etc...) and arri'ved to a practical conclusion that the easiest way to have all-in-one functionality (media library, device sync) is to use WMP0+creative drivers. the only drawback this pair has is slow transfer rate (notmad explorer claims 40Mb transfer rate, which is also crap, because neither USB2 nor the HDD itself are that fast).

  • How can I transfer my iPod touch files directly to iTunes library?

I wanted to upgrade my iPod because it is still version 4.1 . Every time I try to download apps from the App Store, most of them are only available for newer versions that's why I wanted to upgrade it. Please help me! Thanks in advance.

Follow these insructions. WHn it says to restore from backup your iPod will also be updated.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    Note:
A 2G can only to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. If a Mac it requires OSX 10.5.8 or later. With OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1
A 3G to 5.1.1  Requires iTunes version 10.5 or later
A 4G to 6  Requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. For a Mac, that requires a Mac with OSX 10.6.8 or later
    Identifying iPod models
CAUTION, if you have a 2G iPod
Before you restore the iPod make sure that your iTunes library has the version of apps that are presently installed on your iPod. Many apps have been update and the update apps are not compatible with the 2G iPod. I would do that by deleting the apps from your iTunes library and then transfer them to your iTunes library. See:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
In iTunes 11 use Control+B to show the Menu bar then go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

  • Zen Touch File Transfer/Software iss

    First, the nitty gritty:
    I'm running Windows XP
    MediaSource version 3.30.2Firmware version .0.03
In the beginning... I decided I wanted to upgrade my software and firmware to the PlaysForSure versions. The details of the program information said to be sure to backup all of my music seeing as how everything would be deleted during the installation process so I hooked up my 40G Zen Touch to my new laptop, opened up the MediaSource Organizer, adjusted the library settings to drop the music files into an Artist/Album tier and have the file with just the song title. I selected all 8700-some-odd files and began the process of transferring everything onto my laptop. I made sure there was plenty of space for all the files, but not long into the "B's" I started getting the error message: "Error: Unable to read file. File may be in use or corrupted". From that point on I could no longer transfer any files to my computer. I deleted the rest of the que, unplugged the device and took a look at the library. For every file that hit an error it would still drop a file with the track name into a folder of the album within a folder of the artist name - but the actual file was empty, no Kbs. From there I made sure I had the newest and most recent upgrades and plugins (prior to PlayForSure) to fix any bugs. I deleted all the transferred files and started over - again, in the "B's" I got the same message. I repeated this on a different computer with the same results. Once I get the error none of my songs will transfer.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
    -p-

<SPAN>Here's the thing - we started out as friends, Zen Touch and I...
<SPAN>I double-checked the software and plug-in versions to make sure I had the most current. I attached the device and opened WMP. I can't figure out how to take files from the Zen Touch and put them on to my PC library. I need to transfer my entire cache of music from my Zen to the computer. And I just now realized that when trying to use the MediaSource Organizer earlier it put a file on my computer with the folder name "Man.." and I can't delete it. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that the file name contains two periods - I can't rename the file either, all I get when I try is an error that says "cannot delete: cannot read from the source file or disk". This is getting quite frustrating. More likely than not I don't need the new PlaysForSure upgrade but ) I cannot stand not having the latest upgrade and 2) I need to be able to transfer files easily between the device and my comp, which I was able to do until recently. Again, I beg the techno powers that be - HELP!

  • Zen Touch File Transfer/Stor

Im thinking of buying a Zen Touch in the next few weeks but i have one niggling doubt which i haven't been able to resolve over its file storage capabilities.
Can i simply drag and drop file onto it without the need for seperate software, as i intend to make use of my colleges T3 connection and i do not have user privliges to install new software or drivers?
Sorry if this has been brought up before, i couldn't find any info on the matter.

To do so with the zen touch you will need nomad explorer. A program that ties into windows explorer.
If you will need a player that does this take a look at the Zen Micro. You can partition 2GB on the hard dri've of the micro for data only and if you do so it should show up as a removable dri've.
