IPod touch for music and an IPad for everything else

I have an IIPod touch with my music on it.  I'm interested in purchasing an IPad to use for my photos, books, surfing the net, etc. Can I sync an IPad and put everything on it but music?
I'm syncing from an IMac.
Regards,  Jim

As far as I know, yeah. you set up what is go to on each device. I have the same set up, iTouch and iPad, only I have a PC. and I have different content on each device. Just name each one differently and there should be no issue.
Some touch apps will work on the iPad, only unless they're 'dual apps' (as denoted with the + sign by their name in the app store) they'll just be tiny on the screen, but should still work just fine.

    Hi Craig
Unfortunately, in your case, there isn't really a way to separate them as far as I can think.
You could try restoring from a backup, and choosing an older backup perhaps

I recently bought a used iPod touch generation 5 and reset it (erased everything from it because the previous owner left a passcode on it) and I had to enter my language,wi-fi stuff, and then it said "Activate iPod" This iPod is currently linked to an Apple ID (c*****@k*****.net). Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPod. The man who sold it to me said he bought it from another guy and sold it to me..So, I don't know what to do! I searched it up and it said you could go to iCloud and iTunes, but It's not working for me. Please help!!

  • Is it possible to "partition" Iphone or Ipad when syncing?  What I would like to do is set up Itunes to use say 15GB for photos 15GB for music and 15 GB for video.  Any help would be appreciated. Thx

I am using a Widows 7 PC with the latest Itunes.  I would like to alot hard disc space on my 64GB Ipad2 as follows  15GB for music, 15GB for Video and 15GB for photos. I would then like Itunes to autofill from my PC. Can this be done? The same question also applies to my Iphone4. Thanks in advance

To my knowledge the iPod can only be used as a secondary monitor since you have to boot up the Mac and turn on the secondary display. You would still need a KB and pointing device for the Mac
However, you can log into the Mini from an iOS device like an iPad using app like LogMeIn, GoTo MyPC or TeamViewer on both the Mac and the iPad. You use the touch screen on the iPad for all control of the Mac.
As you said, that would be tedious for a lot of typing but you could use a BT keyboard for the iPad.

  • Syncing an old iPod Touch (1st Gen) and new iPad (3rd Gen)

I have an old iPod Touch (1st Generation) which runs iOS 3.1.3, the latest possible for the device. It is synced to my Windows desktop PC. However a lot of apps are not fully updated because the newer versions are no longer iOS 3 compatible.
I am getting an iPad (3rd Generation) on launch day next week and will obviously need to sync it to my PC with fully updated apps, however, I also want to keep using my iPod Touch will all its apps too.
Is it possible to have two sets of apps on iTunes on one PC, one for the old iPod Touch with its older apps and one with the new apps for the new iPad.
I update all the apps on the iPod Touch itself so I never update an app that is no longer compatible with iOS 3.0
The solution I've come up with at the moment is to copy the iTunes folder on to my laptop and use that for one of the devices and use the desktop for the other. But would like to use just one PC if possible.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks

It turns out that I took all the apps off my touch, but I have an iPhone 3 that hasn't been updated in at least six months.  There's got to be something on there that's incompatible with the current iOS architecture, but it's syncing as I type this with no problems.
You've got your iTunes copied to your laptop - why not use the original copy for a little snooping?  I think you'll find that everything works just fine.
BTW, there are several apps in the iTunes library on my desktop that are duplicated.  I never could figure out why, but my guess is that some of them are versions that will run on one handheld and not the other.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPod touch gets music and movies deleted.

This is a new issue with iOS6 and/or iTunes 10.7.
I have a 4th gen iPod touch, and twice in the past week it has had all the music and movies (but not apps or pictures) deleted. The only way to fix this is to go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase all files and settings and restore it like it was out of the box; trying to sync it again or choosing different combinations of songs does not work, it just will not sync the music. Is anybody else encountering this issue?

  • I recently purchased an iPad Mini. I went to sync it to my Mac Book, and everything synced up except my music. It keeps showing that the music is syncing, but once it is complete, I have no music on my iPad. Everything else synced up fine. How do I iPad?

How do I sync my iTunes Library to my iPad mini. I have an iPhone 4, and a Mac Book. Those synced fine. Everything else is syncing, but my music. Help!

Do you have your itunes for ios account set up on your ipad? And when you sync with your Mac Book are you doing it via itunes on your Mac Book? (When we got ipads, we had to set up an ios itunes app so it would sync to get music from itunes.)

  • Unable to home share with iPod Touch (4th Gen) and iPad 2

Since I have upgraded to iTunes 11 I am unable to home share my HD movies to both my iPod Touch (4th Gen) and my iPad 2
I was able to home share all my HD movies before iTunes 11.
I know that the iPad 2 and 4th Gen iPod Touch can only support 720p, but by streaming/home sharing that was the work around.
But again, once I upgraded to iTunes 11... when I go on my iPad or iPod Touch I can no longer see them in my shared library.
Here is the crazy part though... if I go downstairs and get on my 2nd gen AppleTV... I can see all my movies in my shared library.
DO YOU THINK IT IS iOS 6.0.1 ????

There are no setting on the iPod. Unlike the iPad wich morrors the iPad display, TV out on an iPod only displays TV out on apps that support TV out. The Video app is one such app.
    Is that you problem?
    Otherwise:
    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • Picking space for music and data

Just got the nano and love it. I am mainly going to use it to listen to podcasts at school and I also want to have a certain space 1-2 gigs to store my graphics files on it. My main question is can I make where if I want only half of the ipod to be used for music and half just for data so when I plug it in random music will fill the alloted space. I hope you guys know what I mean.

You need to set up a smart playlist that select the music you want on the iPod.
In the smart playlist you can also set the 'Limit to' option where you can specify the number of songs or hours or GB or MB, etc that are in the playlist.
If you set up your playlist to select the music you want and then set the "Limit to" to say 2GB you will be all set.
I have a playlist that selects all my favourite tracks (using the Rating tag, anything greater that 4 stars). that have not been played in the last 30 days.
I then have a Limit to set at 1700MB so that I can manually fill the rest of the iPod with specific albums via another playlist.

  • Multiple iTunes Libraries - One for Music and One for Videos

Because my laptop's hard drive's filling up with videos, I'd like to movie them to a library on an external drive. Is it possible to have two libraries, one for music and the other for videos, and have iTunes keep them organized, or will I have to do it manually?

  • IPod Touch dumps music library when I download content from mobile iTunes

I have had this problem twice now, and both times when I'm away from home and can't get to my computer to sync up easily and fix the problem.
    - I am downloading podcasts from the mobile version of iTunes using the Touch's built in wifi
    - I open the "Music" app to listen to my tasty new podcasts
    - The splash screen that says iTunes is updating the library - this may take a few minutes - appears
    - soon, presta! I have none of my original music available, just the crappy single of the week I got for free from iTunes. I begin to hate this undiscovered band for seemingly poor reasons.
now, every time I go back to my computer at home to sync it up, it restores the playlists and content I thought I had lost, so my best guess is that mobile iTunes is screwing with my iPod Touch's music library file, because for all I can tell the files still seem to be there. Just un-findable.
I'm not jailbroken, and don't fancy it, unless someone thinks it might help me get my music and podcasts back before I can return home... a week is a long time to go without my stuff.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! thanks,
    Brock

I have the same problem with mine, but i dont really pay attention to when ive bought songs of mobile itunes. Sometimes when i turn my ipod on its says updating library but then states no content, so i have to go to the computer to re-sync my songs. Ive looked all over but cant find any answers to stop this, have you had any luck yet?

  • Just updated 10.5 now has location service and others-IOS-ICLOUD etc.  If I hit agree will there be charges I can't find a straight answer. Now I just use my 3 gen. IPOD touch for music and photos. Thanks to all. Tom

The ipod touch wants me to chose or decline these new features. They sound good but I don't want to get any extra charges. Now use for music and phjotos only. Don't want to decline if these are worth while.  Thanks to all.  Tom  Toucch is 3 gen

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks
