IPod touch full but wont show music or videos

I just downloaded itunes 10 and threw a bunch of movies onto my ipod. I went to go watch them today at work and it says there is no video and no music on my ipod. but when i look at General>About> there are no songs no videos but there is only 178 mb avail on a 16gb ipod. so the Ipod is full but nothing is showing up. any ideas?

Here's what I've noticed with my 2nd generations iPod Touch since upgrading to iOS 4.
I'll download some new content, a couple of podcasts let's say. iTunes shows that I have nine (9) unplayed podcasts. I'll manually tell iTunes to sync the changes to my iPod but when that process completes, I'll notice that the iPod only shows eight (8) podcast present on the device. So I manually tell iTunes to sync again, this time the missing podcast gets transferred to the device and now iTunes and the iPod Touch both show that they have nine (9) podcasts.
But there's a problem. Before manually sync'ing the first time, iTunes says that there is .19 GB of "Other" content on my iPod Touch. After manually sync'ing the second time however, that number grows to .29 GB.
So here's what I think is happening. The podcast that didn't sync the first time gets trapped on the device as "other" content because its transfer during the first sync process fails. Now that space isn't recovered on the iPod Touch device unless you "restore" your device. Not good! I think a bug needs a killing.

  • My ipod touch 4th generation wont play music

My ipod touch 4th generation wont play music. I hit the play button and it turns into a pause button but the music does not play and the song length thing stays at 0:00. It is brand new and has not been damaged. No songs are greyed out. Certain songs play but most dont. Please help.

I have same issue with iPad3.  all songs play great, both songs I have downloaded and ones on iPad, except 2 albums by same artist that I bought from iTunes.  maybe more, but I have not found any others that seemingly hang exactly as you describe at 0.00 seconds and with pause button displayed.
mindful meditation in everyday life and mindful meditation workshop....Jon-kabat zinn.  I can play these on my iPhone which is on same account without issue.
I also checked console and don't see any relevant messages.
    I have restarted.
I have not restored from backup, but I did do a complete restore a few days ago....I had lost my ipad(left in cart at Walmart), so sent remote wipe command....but got it back!  iCloud restore was perfect.  I takes a while, so hoping to avoid another restore and would rather find the issue.
    please advise.
    thanks,

    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod

  • IPod touch 4th gen wont show up in iTunes, but my old iPod nano does.

So I've looked up this issue on multiple forums and here, but it seems like everyone is having a simmilar issue, but not the same. I've gone through just about everything here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369 and I've tried all the trouble shooting and everything. I thought that maybe it was an issue with my cheap USB but I recently purchased an apple brand one and it still doesn't work. My iPod doesn't even show up as an iPod in the connected devices on my computer, but it shows up as a camera or something. I have a Toshiba Leading Innovation laptop with Windows 8, and a 4th generation iPod touch. My older iPod nano connects to iTunes just fine. I'm thinking it's an issue with my iPod touch but I have absolutely no clue how to fix this. Can anyone help?

The Nano uses different drivers than iOS devices like the iPod touch

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • Ipod Touch first gen. wont open music

When i click on the music icon on my first gen. ipod touch the screen goes white and after about 15 seconds it just goes back to the home screen. All other applications are working noramally and I have not downloaded anything but music onto this ipod so there are no other apps possibly messing with my ipod. I have turned it on and off, left it to cool in case of overheating, restarted, reset my settings, and recharged it. It just wont play music at all. Help.

come on mate, you've been around these forums for long enough to know about the other troubleshooting steps, surely?

  • Since updating iTunes my new iPod touch 5th generation wont show up.

I recently updated iTunes on Friday. But now that I try to sync my iPod touch 5th generation it is not showing up in iTunes. The iPod asks if I trust this computer and I click yes but nothing happens. What should I do?

In case you haven't found this yet... I managed to fix the problem with my iPhones by updating the USB device driver.  The instructions are in this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5822553?tstart=0
or you can follow this knowlege base article on the Apple site:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
(for me the problem required me following the instructions in the "If only Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod appears" section, but it may be different in your case)
Maybe Apple updated the USB drivers in this updated version of iTunes?  I'm not sure why the installer failed to install these drivers automatically (maybe that isn't possible??).  Maybe this is just a Windows problem and has nothing to do with Apple?  Who knows...
