It's not just iTunes you need to update...
You need to upgrade to Leopard v10.5.8 at the very least in order to sync, restore, and backup an iPod touch.
See iPod touch system requirements here.
Leopard is available from Amazon here.

  • Download problem with iPod Touch January software update

Hi, some problems with the software update. Please advise
    - Ipod Touch user from australia
    - went for holidays in malaysia for a while and purchased the software update via itunes australia
    - The download did not start but i was charged $25AUD
    - Returned to australia, attempted the download again but failed because itunes stated that the update has already been downloaded.
    - Attempted to update the iPod Touch by clicking on "Check for Update" but software has already been updated to the current version (1.1.3).
    - The new applications did not appear on iPod Touch.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi pdra05,
Do you manually manage your music?
iTunes has to sync to unlock the January software, manually manage music has to be deselected.
Make sure your content on your ipod is backed up before sync.

  • HT4623 why doesn't my ipod touch have 'software update' on it? I can't add apps on it because of this.

I have an ipod touch and I can not add apps to it as it is saying I need to update my ipod.
The trouble is when I go to General - there is no SOFTWARE UPDATE on the ipod.
What do I do to update it and be able to download apps?
    Please Help!

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

Also read the instructions from the section entitled "Update your device using iTunes" at the link below.

Information regarding transferring purchases from your iDevice to iTunes on your syncing computer can be found at the link below.

NOTE: The 2nd generation iPod Touch can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1.

  • Help me  Please!!!! [ ipod touch january software update ]

I cant buy the new software because It didnt show icon to buy It just show "remind me later" icon and "no thank" icon. And i didnt see that program in my history purchase .So what should I do ???

I believe this may have something to do with the version of iTunes that you are running and the iPod touch firmware version.
I'd first check to see if you are using iTunes version 7.6, if not download and upgrade itunes by going to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
once you've done this, plug in your iPod touch and make sure it's updated to the latest version of iPod software which is 1.1.3
Sometimes this can also be a temporary store issue so if all of the above has been done then you might want to try again later as it could just be the iTunes store itself.
    Hope this helps

  • Ipod Touch Gen 2 update issues

Trying to transfer music from my itunes on my computer to my ipod touch, however it says that my Ipod is not up to date for these transfers to take place and needs version 8.2 or older. How do I go about updating my ipod for a newer update?

What firmware revision on the iPod do you have (setting>General>About>version)? What computer operating system do you have and to what level (service pack number)? What revision of iTunes is installed on the computer?
The 8.2 would seem to apply to the iTunes revision but that is very old.

my ipod touch gen 4 will not recovery after software update. have tried everything. device not recognized by itunes. any ideas?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod Touch Gen 5 will no longer synch with iTunes on my computer.  Only change since this happened is update to iPod to OS 8.1.1  iPod synch remains stuck in "Step 8 of 8"

My iPod Touch Gen 5 will no longer synch with iTunes on my computer.  Only change since this happened is update to iPod to OS 8.1.1  iPod synch remains stuck in "Step 8 of 8"

On your computer go to the control panel (hover in the lower right corner) then programs, add/remove programs
Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support then go to apple.com and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again.
You won't lose any content, you're not deleting that, just the programs that access them.
What is thought to happen is that sometimes a new version of itunes doesn't update the drivers in those other two programs. The only way to update the drivers is to force it by uninstalling the programs which allows itunes to write the correct ones.
My iPad and iPod did exactly the same thing and this is how I fixed it.

  • IPod Touch (Gen 1, Software 3.0) running hot/locking up.

In the last few months, I have been having a recurring problem with my iPod Touch (Gen 1, now running 3.0), where on occasion it starts feeling incredibly hot to the touch, the screen freezes, and it refuses to accept any input from anything but the home and the lock/power key.
I've ruled out environmental causes, and also it doesn't seem to be software/apps causing the problem, as I first encountered it at V2.2, and it has happened with just a clean install on there as well.
Any ideas to what could be causing this, or to a potential solution?

This is not a bug but a problem with the software or hardware on your individual iPod. You have not mentioned try to fix it by doing a restart, reset, or a restore. These types of minor problems generally respond well to one of those remedies.
However, if your problem doesn't go away, you may have a problem with the touch screen. If you are still under warranty, then a trip to the closest Apple store might be a good idea.

  • Ipod Touch Gen 2 App Update Issue :(

    Hi,
I have an iPod Touch gen 2, recently it has stopped updating my apps. When I click on "update," it will ask me for my password, the it'll say "waiting" with the little bar, then the icon will return to normal, but no update has taken place and the App Store icon will show the original number of updates. I have turned the wifi on and off and rebooted many times.
If I do a restore from iTunes, do I lose all game progresses?
    Help please.

Can you update the apps pn your computer?
Your game progresses are part of the backup data. In order to save them before you restore, back up manually by right clicking on your device in the device list and choosing "backup". A backup without a sync process will be performed. See what else is part of the backup here: iPhone and iPod touch: About backups
Saving data and restoreing "as new ipod" is also described here: How to back up your data and set up as a new device

  • My Ipod Touch has Software Version 4.2.1 and says that there is no update available. Yet I see that IOS 5 is out.. Why is it that my Ipod says no update is available or that my Ipod is up to date?

My Ipod Touch has Software Version 4.2.1 and says that there is no Update available. Yet I see that IOS 5.0 is out. Why does my Ipod say that there is no update available and my Ipod is up to date yet there is newer software available?

Because you have an older model that is not upgradable to iOS 5.x.

i have an ipod touch and just updated my software to ios 7.1.2. Now I get the message that my adapter, accessory does not support my device. Is there a new adapter that I need to buy that works with the ios 7.1.2?

This is not my problem. However, I think it may be related to an old speaker. I was using the 30 pin adapter for about a week after the upgrade to 7.1.2. But I think with the update the speaker won't work anymore. I will try with a new speaker system. Thank you for trying to assist.

  • How to update ipod touch gen 2

Is there anyway to upgrade the software on the ipod touch gen 2, its up to date on the software but need a newer one is it possible to get newer software to get more games and apps to work. Any help would be great.

The CPU in that device does not have enough internal RAM to support any iOS above 4.2.1
But, there are still over 60,000 alternative vintage apps available that will work on it.
