IPod touch generation 5 - intermittent connection to Windows 7

I have just purchased a new pc that has Windows 7 installed. I have down loaded the latest version of iTunes. When I connect my iPod, using the lightning connector, iTunes opens up as usual. I see the iPod serial # but the unit continually connects/disconnects from the pc. You can hear it dinging as it does so. This means that I sometimes cannot back up the iPod as it does not managed to get through the back up process before it disconnects. When it disconnects, the iPod cannot be seen in iTunes either. I don't have to close and open iTunes to see it again because when it connects again, it is displayed in iTunes.
I know the first time I connected it to the pc, there was a Windows message saying that it had not connected properly. Subsequent connects have not come up with Windows errors.
I have USB 3 and 2 connection on the pc and have been connecting to the USB 2 connector.
I have un-installed iTunes and then re-installed it again with no success.
I installed iTunes on my work pc with Windows 8.1 and have had no such problems so it defiantly looks like it is an issue between my new home pc.
I might add that I have no issues with my iPhone at all.
My iPod is running the latest ios f/ware.
Any help/ suggestions on how to sort this out would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
BS

- Try another cable.
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Try on another computer to determine if computer or iPod problem

  • My ipod touch 4g does not show in Windows 7 or itunes.  I've removed and reinstalled itunes, stopped and started apple mobile services and changed out cables.  Ipod is charging when connected.  I've also done a complete rollback to factory defaults.

Did you remove and reinstall all the Apple software by:

Well, there is always the possibility that it's been jailbroke, in which case, you're out of luck.  However...

Hi, I've reset my 2nd generation ipod touch. However, the connect to itunes graphic appears on the screen but when I attach to my powerbook it doesn't show up either in itunes or finder. I can't be the first to have experienced this problem. please could someone advise me.

What iOS do you have on the iPod?
Did it every connect to your computer with that iOS?
The latest iOD for the 2G is 4.2.1 and that required a Mac with 10.5.8 or later.
    Have you tried:
    - another USB port and cable

  • I have a brand new ipod touch and it wont connect to itunes or my computer!!??

I have a brand new ipod touch however when I connect it to my computer, itunes does not recognise it and neither does my computer. The drivers have downloaded and are showing working. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing itunes as discussed in support centre however nothing seems to work. The ipod itself just has the connect to the computer on the screen, is fully charged and when plugged in a little lock sign comes up for a second or two above the itunes icon!!! Let me know if you have any further suggestions please.

Thanx for you suggestions, I used my old xp laptop...update software and my ipod connected however the memory is not large enough to hold my itunes library so I could see it was not the cable or the ipod at fault.
I have tried to connect to my vista laptop again and have tried all of the suggestions in troubleshooting again...I have even upgraded to windows 7 to see if that cleared the problem....and....my computer has located my ipod but is only recognising it as a digital camera so back to the drawing board...
Please have you any other suggestions???

  • IPod Touch 4th gen  trouble connecting to my Win-Vista 64bit computer via USB.

    Hi,
I seem to have an issue with my iPod Touch 4G. Ever since upgrading to iOS5.
The iPod Touch has had issues connecting, via direct USB, to my Windows Vista 64 bit computer.  When I connect it, via USB, the computer will report the iPod Touch 4G as an "Unrecognized Device."  This prevents me from using the USB to sync the iPod or charge it via the computer's USB connection.
My work around is to turn off the iPod (via red slide bar method) then connect it to the USB.  At this point, it in it will automatically re-start the iPod and then it will recognize and sync or charge.  I can also connect it have it report as an "Unrecognized Device" leave it connected, turn it off(red slide bar) and turn it back on and it will also connect charge and sync.
The problem is that I must turn it off every time I want to connect it.  I can sync via wi-fi (but this causes issues with music that others have shared with me-keeps asking for their i-Tunes account) (happened after I "re-set" the I-Pod).  I needed to hard sync with the computer to make all the rights work out.
This same USB cable and computer works just fine with my other iPods (Touch 3G, Classic) and my iPhone 4S.  Only problem device is the Touch 4G.  The problematic iPod and same USB cable works without issue on other computers (i.e.:  don't have to turn it off and then plug it in).
I've followed the apple instructions and sequence to remove I-Tunes and a bunch of other related software and then reinstall it.  I've reset my iPod. Nothing corrects this issue with this particular iPod.  I've changed USB ports, tried other USB cables nothing changes the fact that I have to turn off and back on the iPod Touch 4G each time before I can get it to be properly recognized by the computer and thus charge or be recognized by iTunes.
This only started to happen to the iPod Touch 4G after I upgraded it from iOS4 to iOS5.  I also have iOS5 on my iPhone 4S - with no issues.  My other iPod Touch 3G is using iOS4.  It connects and syncs fine.
I've figured out a work around but, does anyone know how to fix this issue?  Thanks

    Hi,
Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

  • Transferring content from Ipod Touch Generation 1 to Ipod Touch generation4

I would like to transfer all my apps, songs and pictures and video content to my ipod touch generation 4. What is the best way to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

It is easy. Just sync it to the same computer and the first time you connected the 4G restore it using the backup from your 1G. You should be prompted for that option when you first connect it.

  • Ipod touch and iphone cannot connect, as no apple mobile device usb

First the problems was my ipod touch, it did not connect to itunes, my computer or would not charge. I tried everything, uninstalling apple software, restarting apple mobile device manager. I tried to find the apple mobile device usb, and it was just not there. My iphone has been connecting fine in terms of connecting and charging, so when i connected it i found the apple mobile device usb and followed the instructions on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538#error52 so i went to delete the apple mobile device usb, then when i went to scan for hardwear changes it didnt install back, so now also my iphone cannot connect to itunes, but unlike the ipod touch it does connect to the computer and charges.
Please some one help me!!!! i have been trying to fix it for ages, and and am at my wits end.
    thanks

    Have you tried:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    - If your computer sees the iPhone but not the iPod and you are using the same cable and USB port that indicates an iPod problem. Have you tried resetting the iPod.? Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Also try running diagnostics.

  • I bought a new ipod touch today and it connects to my wifi automatically... But I forgot my wifi password for my new iPod touch and I don't know how to find it in my old iPod?

I bought a new ipod touch today and it connects to my wifi automatically... But I forgot my wifi password for my new iPod touch and I don't know how to find it in my old iPod?

You can usually find the wi-fi password on your router itself if you know the router's ID and password (not the wi-fi password).  You can log into your router by putting its address (usually 192.168.1.1) into your browser's address window.

the computer is a macbook pro, mac os x 10.6.08 and the ipod touch is ios 6.0.
the problem is that just updated the itunes on the computer and now the ipod won't connect because apparently the itunes on the ipod is not up to date but the iod is telling me that is is up to date, so i can't do a software update.
