IPod Touch interface inconsistencies - my 2 bits

I've had my Touch for 2 weeks now, and 90% of it is quite amazing. I'm a little puzzled by these things though, and would like to make my recommendations:
1. In album mode, if I pick an album that say, starts with W, listen to a few tracks then go back to albums using the 'back arrow', it takes me back to the beginning of the list again. I think it should remember where I was and go back there. I think most people work their way through a list and don't always go back to the start.
2. How about a little botton for 'volume' on screens that don't display a volume slider... like every screen except the portrait view. Why no volume on the Coverflow view?
3. When I pick an album, I get a list of songs on a white background with no other info. Then I pick a song and it switches to the album art view. On the top right, I hit the track list and it does a cool little flip to the track list, except this track list is black, includes the track number, time, and rating. Why 2 screens? I like the black one better - it displays more info and the text isn't so horribly big like the white screen.
4. The display always shows the wi-fi connection. Why not let me click on it and turn it off to save power instead of going back to the settings?
5. Just for kicks, why can't the main menu rotate when you rotate the Touch?
6. The 'zoom' in Safari doesn't seem to work like the ad on TV shows. I usually get a 10% zoom or it clicks on some hyperlink. Try go to Yahoo and zoom... impossible... how about another button on the bottom? Seems like there is lots of room for a zoom button.
7. Too much screen space is wasted on the current page address in Safari... And odd things happen when you are trying to enter text into forms (like username and password)
8. You can scroll up and down in Safari, or sideways, but not diagonally... that's just weird.
9. How about some kind of battery life timer? I know I'm not imagining my pod is only getting 3 hours audio playback on a full charge - let me track it so my local store knows if I got a dud (I think I did...)
Those are my suggestions so far...

Good suggestions, But people from apple do not take suggestions from these forums to leave comments on what you would like to see in future updates for the touch post here:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html
Also, what do you mean you cant scroll diagonally in Safari? I scroll diagonally all the time on web pages just move your finger diagonally across the screen.

    Of course not.
Like any warranty it does not cover damage.  You would have to pay like everyone else.

  • How can I sync the ipod touch with windows 7 64 bit

How can I sync the ipod touch with Outlook on windows 7 64 bit?

I'm having the same problem with Windows 7, iTunes has been spotty about recognizing my iPod Touch. Now that I've updates Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (June 2011), It won't complete a sync or a restore at all on either of my Windows 7 computers.
I have gone through every troubleshooter action recommended by Apple Support, and have not been able to improve the situation at all.
I took my Touch to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store after trying and failing to complete a restore while troubleshooting, and it restored just fine from a Mac.  Unfortunately, it now gives me an error meesage (Incompatible device) half way through an attempted sync, or iTunes simply freezes.
I even tried removing the Windows SP1, but that was a mess, as my display went all whacky and iTunes crashed immediately upon startup.
The Windows 7 OS ***** in general, particularly with compatibility issues, and not just for Apple products.
Does anyone know how to remedy this situation?
I'm so frustrated and have wasted so much time on this issue that I'm going to throw it all out the window!

  • Ipod Touch and Windows 7 64 Bit - Itunes not recognizing

I have Windows 7 64 bit operating system. I have been struggling with getting my Itunes and Ipod touch to work together - somewhere an update or upgrade screwed things up.
Right now, I have Itunes 10 64 bit installed on my computer. When I plug in the Ipod touch to sync, I get a message in Itunes telling me that this Ipod requires the 64 bit Itunes and I need to remove and reinstall the 64 bit version of Itunes.
Needless to say, I've removed and reinstalled the 64 bit version 3 times. Still won't recognize my Ipod Touch.
    HELP!
    HP Desktop

    Hey!!
Well ... After about 3 months of searching, going to the apple Genius bar... (seriously they wanted me to delete my stuff... I couldn't live without my books I downloaded from drinkmalk.com which is now defunct)
So.. I am running a Dell Studio 1557 Windows 7 (no SP installed yet), 64 Bit and I own a 3rd Generation Ipod Touch, 32 Gig and had many of the same problems. In my case... I was able to update software, but I couldn't sync music onto my ipod or transfer purchases I would get: Internal Device error, operation failed... etc etc.. .every sync error you can think of...
MAGIC FIX (For me.. and other users)
    1. There is a known bug that says its a chipset issue (Just google Ipod sync chipset issues and realize you aren't alone)... Most likely you don't Have a PCI card slot to put a new usb thing on... so.. that is a no go...
    2. SOLUTION (that worked for me) - UPDATE THE BIOS on your PC. If you go to your computer manufacturer's driver site... you can search for these updates. Chances are... you have the version that was installed on your computer that is out of date (its not one of those things that automatically updates). For the most part, you never really need to update it since it doesn't affect regular functioning... most people update it on the advice of a technician. Either way, I went to the Dell support site, looked up my laptop and found the install file.
WARNING BACK UP YOUR HARD DRIVE AHEAD OF TIME IF YOU DECIDE TO DO THIS!! ALSO, RESEARCH HOW TO MAKE A BIOS RECOVERY DISK IN THE CASE IT CRASHES.. BETTER YET, CONSULT YOUR LOCAL GEEK FOR SUPERVISION, IF FOR ANY REASON THE BIOS UPDATE FAILS AND IT DOES HAPPEN SINCE WE KNOW PC's are WONKY... YOU MAY RISK BRICKING YOUR COMPUTER... Just google "Bios Update Failure" to see the horror stories..
However.. that said and done.. I updated it ... made the mistakes above and was able to get my computer back by leaving the battery out for an hour, pressing the power button for 30 seconds and restarting ... after the failure scare... saved me 200 bucks from dell customer service
Good News: With the updated bios... SYNC WORKS PERFECTLY!! I can put music on, transfer stuff out... no errors!! =) JOY!

  • USB Device Not Recognized (IPod Touch 5g) (Win 7 64 Bit)

I have seen many threads for this but nothing that they suggest has fixed this for me.
    http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u45/JediJake2429/Capture_zps9d26bcea.png
    I have an I touch 5g Model MD724LL/A, IOS 7.1.1
I have two Win 7 64 Bit Machines.
    I tried two cables,
    I tried two computers,
    I have restored it,
I have put it into recovery mode,
I have uninstalled all apple software, and removed all traces from the registry,
I have done a fresh install of Itunes on the laptop which had never had it on there before,
I have ran the windows troubleshooter, and the Microsoft fix it troubleshooter,
I have removed all traces of the ipod driver and tried updating,
I have updated the driver from the itunes folder on my pc,
I have tried everything listed here: My iTouch 5th generation is not recognised by my computer. why?
I have tried everything listed here: Windows 7 blocks my iPod Touch
I have tried everything listed here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/ipod-touch-5 th-generation-not-recognized/85dac803-680e-4ce8-842c-9f58b0df7f7f
My wife even took it to the apple store today and they told me that it is a windows 7 issue. they basically would not do anything for her.
Funny thing is, after trying everything that was suggested to me online, by those at the apple store, and using my own PC knowledge as I also work in IT, it still does not recognize the driver. So it seems to me that Apple need to get their drivers updated to be compatible.
I currently have a $400 piece of crap Ipod that I cannot use because apple cannot make a driver that works.
Anybody that has anything new to suggest, be my guest.

    Illaass,
It works connected to another apple device. I have TWO windows 7 64 Bit Machines both with widely different configurations, and they both have the same exact issue. This IS a driver issue, that much I agree with apple on. However its not a WINDOWS issue. APPLE makes the driver that is installed with Itunes. That Driver does not work. (As a side note, Apple really should get their head out of their A$$ and come up with better solutions vs telling their customers to restore their windows config. That's straight up BS.)
    JEM24,
I have done that. I have also taken a PC that had never had any apple software on it and installed itunes on that. Tested, same result.

  • BMW iPod Touch interface: some songs start mid way but not all.

Hi, I upgraded from an iPod Classic to an iPod touch 4th generration and since doing so some (not all) songs will start at various points in the song when connected to my BMW iPod interface cable, eg 3:20 into a song, then another one may start 10 secs into a song etc. Some songs start at the begininning. This never happened with the Classic.
    Any ideas please ?

The classic most likely it was working using and over version of the itunes software, the new iPod you have is using a newer version  of the aple software, there are 2 solutions, downgrade the software on the new device
or see if there is any update for the iPod interface in your vehicle, some can be remove out of the vehicle and
plug into a computer using a usb cable

  • IPod touch home button takes a bit longer to work

My iPod 3G's home button responds a bit longer.I realised this when I clicked the home buttons of my sister's 3G touch and mine at the same time.It takes like a second to respond on mine wile on my sister's it takes less than a second. I kind of noticed this even before i updated to iOS 4.

iOS 4 does tend to run slower on an older iPod. About the only thing to try, is a reboot and/or restore and make sure you don't have app(s) running in the background using CPU power. I bought an app called System that works like an Activity Monitor on a Mac. It gives you a lot of information on what is going on under the hood.

  • I just got an iPod touch 5th generation back in November and while I was out in my garage trying to find something on a shelf while standing on a stool, I dropped my iPod touch the screen cracked a bit- anyone know repair prices from Apple?

So I dropped it... And the screen cracked a bit. It's fairly new (got it in November) but I noticed Apple doesn't cover accidents like mine. Anyone know the prices for getting a replacement/ repair? It's not that bad of a crack, but it's annoying and new so..Yah. Any help with prices for a replacement/warranty would be helpful and on how I should do it. Maybe I can get a replacement for cheap or free cuz I got it recently and I've never complained to Apple before? I know it's my mistake but I'd be thankful if you guys could help! Thanks!

Sorry, but the warranty does not cover accidental damage no matter how recently you got your iPod. As to servicing, Apple does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/
There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". It is also possible to purchase parts and find instructions on doing a repair yourself, though it's not particularly easy. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPod serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform a repair yourself, all further support from Apple will be void.
    Regards.

  • Is it possible for the processor in the iPod touch 5th gen to slow down? Or even any type of handheld apple device? If so what is it? Please help.

It feels like my iPod touch 5 has been a bit slow lately. All my apps are closed, I think there has been a day I don't use my iPod for like a week or two. Please help. Thanks so much for the help in advance.

  • IPod Touch (2nd gen) not recognized by computer and iTunes

When I connect my iPod Touch to my laptop, running Windows 7, neither the computer nor iTunes recognizes my iPod. Everything worked before with Vista.
When I plug the iPod into the computer the iPod does turn on put the battery doesn't charge and the iPod does not show on the Device Manager.
I have gone through and uninstalled and the reinstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application support. With no positive result. In fact I have done it twice.
In going back to make sure everything had installed I have noticed several things.
The Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes folders and Common Files are located in Program Files(x86) There are also copies of the Bonjour, iPod, Common Files, and iTunes folders are also located in the Program Files folder. Are these file locations correct?
Also, I have read somewhere that there should be usbaapl.cab, usbaapl.inf, usbaapl.sys files. I can't find any of these file. Are these files necessary?
    Any help will be appreciated.

greetings rkonrv and welcome to Apple discussions !
it seems your have seen this KG then.
maybe this tip by Beebopp (though a little off topic) will provide some pointers:
+This solution is very similar to one above but worked for me. Am using iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 32 bit version of Windows Vista where the iTouch is being seen by Windows but does not show in iTunes. In my case it was being identified by Windows as a camera. I tried un-installing and re-installing iTunes and all the other Apple apps with no luck. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to C:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Try this if you are having similiar issues.+
    +Here are the steps:+
    +1. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"+
+2. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account+
+3. Single left click on START+
+4. Single left click on RUN (You may need to change the start menu to 'classic view' to see RUN, you can change back after if you like)+
    +5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)+
+6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)+
+7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)+
+8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties+
+9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab+
+10. Single left click on " Update driver "+
+11. Select " Install from a list or specific location " or "Browse my computer" whichever shows on your version of Vista+
+12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search " if shown+
+13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box " Include this location in the search "+
+14. Single left click NEXT and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected, if no list appears then you should see the little animated circle thingie spinning. It's looking and working. Be patient.+
+15. Hopefully you will get a successful message.+
    +16. The correct drivers(s) are now installed.+
+17. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.+
    good luck !

  • Windows 7 doesn't recognize my iPod Touch 4th generation after I upgraded the device to iOS 5.

Has anyone had any success with syncing a 4th generation iPod Touch in Windows 7 64-bit after upgrading the iPod Touch to iOS 5? Up until I upgraded the device's OS I couldn't for the life of me stop iTunes from popping up and trying to sync anytime I simply wanted to charge the iPod, but now after the upgrade I keep getting a system message that the device isn't recognized. Any ideas...?

    Hello Jogon,
I am guessing but I think that this is how it is and that the ipod connects to perhaps a wireless keyboard or headphones but not other bluetooth devices such as my other non apple mobile phones? I was going to transfer photos across etc
Yes that is correct. See this Apple support document to view which iPod models support what kinds of Bluetooth profiles.

I noticed my ipod touch was working a little bit slower, so I turned it off. I tried to turn it back on, and it didn't budge. I also tried to reset it, anything.. still nothing.
