Ipod touch / iphone / ipod nano won't connect to iTunes (not recognized)

Up until yesterday everything was working fine. But now when I connect my ipod touch, iphons (1st), or ipod nano to iTunes, my PC recognizes them (show up in Windows Explorer), but iTunes does not recognize them anymore.
I don't know what changed.
I have reset all devices.
I have completely removed and reinstalled iTunes. (I've tried iTunes 10.5.1 and 10.5.2)
I have shut down and rebooted the PC (several times).
I have tried different USB ports and different cables.
My Windows 7x64 is fully updated.
Does anyone know how to help?

Sorry, I followed both guides and uninstalled everything - rebooted, reinstalled iTunes like your second link instructions said.
PC sees all devices fine in Windows Explorer (and makes the pling sound when I connect them, they just do not show up in iTunes.
(ipod nano, ipod touch 32GB, iphone 1st gen, ipad 1st gen)
Manually starting or restarting all itunes/ipod related services doesn't do a thing either, nothing will sync.
I'm at a loss.

  • My 5th Gen iPod Nano won't connect to itunes or computer, just keeps resetting. Reinstalled itunes to no avail, other ipods connect fine...help please

I re-installed i-tunes but this didn't solve the issue.  Other iPods including additional 5th generation nanos connect and sync just fine.  When it's plugged into the computer, it says "Connected...Eject before disconnecting" but doesn't show in itunes or the computer, then the ipod resets and the cycle begins again.  It plays music just fine.  It also plays fine when directly connected by USB to a Toyota Avalon.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this?  Thanks!

  • Ipod nano (both 6th and 7th gen) not recognized by itunes

Ipod nano (both 6th and 7th gen) not recognized by itunes. Before you send me to the help pages, i have followed EVERY STEP you provided, from uninstalling, removing temp files... you name it. I was recently upgraded to windows 8.1.

For anyone else having this problem, I found this solution to work. Try this first:
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.
d)If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    f) If still not works, try re-install iTunes. Go into the Unstall Programs (in Control Panel) and uninstall everything that says Apple, and uninstall Bonjour. With the fresh install of iTunes, everything came back and is should work. Hope it helps.

  • Sixth generation iPod Nano won't connect

I have a sixth generation ipod nano.  When I connect it to my computer, it will charge, but I can't add any music.  It won't show up in the iTunes sidebar, nor will disk mode work (I tried putting it into disk mode and it goes straight to the "safe to eject" screen and I have to do the sleep+volume down restart).  I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, reset the iPod, reset my computer, tried a different cord, and everything else the support website said to do.  Is there anything else I can try or I'm I screwed?

When you connect the iPod, does its screen change to indicate that it is connecting?
In iTunes, you do not see it in the sidebar, under DEVICES?  NOTE:  The latest version of iTunes may hide the sidebar.  If it is hidden, go to menu bar, under View, and select Show Sidebar.
Try going through this procedure, to see if the iPod's assigned drive letter is the problem
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1493
When you do this, do you see it listed in Computer Management?

  • My iPod nano won't connect to any computer!!

It worked for a while on my computer, got my bunch of songs on it. Then it stopped connecting into iTunes and then stopped connecting into the computer all together. It won't even light up when I plug it in. I can still listen to my songs on it, I just can't charge the battery or get new songs. I tried using all the different USB ports, and restarted my computer about 50 times. (I'm using windows) I also reinstalled iTunes and the iPod but it's still not working! I also took it to a friend's and tried plugging it into their computer with my iPod cord and their iPod cord and it still wasn't connecting!
    I desperately need help please!

I am having a similar problem. I am actuall on my third 2nd generation nano. One I had to return do to that issue. I recieved the second one (product red) and I was able to get 600 songs on it froma friends computer. It connected to mine once but won't anylonger. The third one I was having the same issue with it but somehow got it to work. I updated itunes and ran a virus scan. I wish I could help but I'm starting to think about stomping on them. please someone help meeeee

Your speaker has probably auto connected to your phone so the Nano can't see it. Turn off BT on your phone and any other BT devices you've connected with, put the speaker in pairing mode and try again.

  • Need Help, my Ipod Nano won't connect and sync with ituens

So I downloaded the most recient itunes update the other night, and now my ipod nano will not sync with itunes.  My computer when I search devies and printer shows in devies as (apple ipod USB device, and for unspecified devices Apple Moble Device USB Driver), and I have tried other ipods around the house and they will sync with my itunes with no problem.... also another thing is that if I close the itunes and try to reopen itunes with my nano is pluged in it will not open. But when I remove this particular Ipod, and try to reopen itunes ill will open.
I have tried redownloading itunes a million times, used different USBs, restored itunes to new, and restarted ipod, and have restarted the computer a million times.
Why is it that this one nano will no longer link to itunes so that I can update my music on it. Please any one begging you, I am loosing my mind a patiences. Anyone help me please, I just want to update my music on this ipod.
How can one ipod no longer sync????
    Please and thanks.

I saw in one thread related to this that you have to make sure that the process "iTunes Helper" is running when you have your iPod connected. You can see that by running Activity Monitor, select All Processes, and then look for iTunes Helper. Based on everything else you tried, there could be a physical problem with your Nano. One of the pin connections may be bad. Will it show up on another Mac's iTunes?

  • IPod Nano won't sync in iTunes.

Have synced my iPod Nano with iTunes many times, but this just started occuring:
Display on iPod flashes back and forth between "Connected" and "Ok to Disconnect" and getting following message box on iTunes:
"An iPod has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.
If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes then install iTunes again."
I have done all of the above and even tried with a different cable. Same problem. I'm also getting intermittant messages about faster performance if I use a USB 2.0 port and another one that the device driver can't be installed.
iTunes is not recognizing my iPhone 4 now either.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello 510turbo,
Try this to fix the issue:
How to fix: iPod nano detected but not identified properly
From the sounds of it, your usb ports may be going out on your computer. If Other apple devices are having the same issue, its more than likley that its the usb ports.
Test your ipod on a different known/good computer. You can test it at an Apple Retal store by setting an appointment. Apple.com/retail
    Hope this helps.

I have just bought an ipod Nano (7th Generation) and when I try to sync to iTunes I get the message: This copy of iTunes does not support iPod, iPhone or iPad syncing. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and iTunes 11.1. The box the Nano came in says iTunes 10.7.

  • 1st gen iPod Nano won't mount in iTunes but will in Finder.

Cable: Fine -- works with other iPods. Other cables work fine with other iPods too.
iTunes -- uninstalled and reinstalled. No effect.
iPod nano -- downloaded iTunes for Windows, ran it in Parallels on the same mac, managed to restore the iPod nano (alas, as a Windows flavour one now).
Finder can still mount it as a disk; since iTunes on the mac won't recognise it... I'm beginning to wonder what on earth's happened to iTunes!
    Any ideas?

    Hello rgc123456,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article outlines various steps that you can take and may lead to a potential resolution. The article refers to an iPod that is not recognized in both iTunes and Mac desktop, however most steps are applicable for your situation as well.

  • Ipod 3rdGen won't connect to Itunes 9.1

I'm on a work computer running OSX 10.4.11 and Itunes 9.2.1. I recently lost my  Ipod touch 1st Gen. and bought a used Ipod Touch 3rd Gen. that has been TOTALLY wiped clean (when you turn it on, all it shows is a USB cable connecting to Itunes). According to all the 3rd Gen requirements that I can find, my OS and Itunes should work fine. However when I go to plug the new Ipod in to get it set up, Itunes says that ipod Touch cannot be used because it requires Itunes version 10.1 or later. It says CLEARLY in the Ipod 3rd gen specs that 9.1 will work and I'm running 9.2.1. Since I'm on a work computer, getting a new computer or getting a new OS are not an option so I can't update to newer versions of Itunes. ALTHOUGH I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SINCE IT CLEARLY SAYS IN THE 3RD GEN SPECS THAT WHAT I HAVE SHOULD WORK FINE!

    EliteDigger wrote:

While I don't doubt what you say, I have been unable to find anything that specifially states that, because everything I can find refers to the latest versions.
However, you state that you bought a used Touch. If that Touch has been updated by the previous owner to work with iTunes 10, then I believe that you will have an issue if you try and use that same iPod with iTunes 9. This is because once the iPod has been given access to anything new in iTunes 10, the older iTunes 9 will not know how to handle commands written for the newer iTunes. And as far as I know (maybe Illaass can confirm or correct me if I'm wrong), even if you Restore an iPod, that simply sets "switches", "conditions" and settings back to a known state and removes content. It does not revert it back to its original operating system.
I recently Restored one of my iPods. I did not have to re-install the updated operating system. It still had the last version I put on it, not its original one.

  • HELP!  My iPod Nano won't sync with iTunes on the computer!  What do I do?

  • IPod nano won't turn on or be recognized in iTunes or Vista

We recently upgraded to Windows Vista, so I downloaded iTunes 7.2, then plugged in my ipod which was working fine, then it said it had to be updated, but first I needed to update something in windows vista. So I updated Vista and also looked in the help section for ipod and read this:
Microsoft has released an update for Windows Vista that addresses a situation where ejecting iPod from Windows Explorer or by using the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature in Windows Vista could corrupt your iPod. Apple recommends Windows Vista customers who own an iPod install this software update. For information on how to install this Microsoft hot fix, refer to the "Update your software" section below. Tip: iPod can always be ejected safely by choosing Eject iPod from the Controls menu within iTunes.
So, I thought that my ipod would get ruined so I did the "eject ipod" from the control menu in itunes, and after that my ipod never turned on again. What happened, did I do something wrong?
I did the 5 R's already and it does not turn on. It is not even in my computer (device manager) and its not even being recognized in itunes. It just disappeared and it won't turn on. Please help!!!
    Thanks in advance.
    Dell   Windows Vista

I'm having a similar problem with my Ipod (40GB, now discontinued) here's my problem:
My hard drive would spin up and then down and then up and then it would turn off. Also I would turn it on and flip to a song, it would be OK and then if I went to flip to another one the screen would freeze on me for a few seconds, then it would work then continue doing that until I got it to turn off. It did that for a few days and then the other day I turned it on and it wouldn't take me to my music screen and it came up with an Ipod that was dead and a link under it. It did this for a while and now I can't get it to work either, I turn it on now and it comes up with a folder and the apple support website and when I tired restarting it, the screen would come up with a check mark and say "Disk Mode" at the top and "OK to disconnect" below the check mark, and now Itunes doesn't recognize it and the hard drive spins and it goes on acting like iTunes sees it when in truth it doesn't.
    Hope someone can help!
