Ipod Touch is dead and can't reset or power it

ipod touch is dead; no power; how do you fix or reset?

lisafrommclean,
When you say that your iPod touch is "dead", do you mean that the battery is dead or that there has been some sort of damage to your iPod?
If your battery is dead, keep this in mind...when you plug it into a computer, then it will show a message with the battery and a lightning bolt beneath it on your iPod touch screen unless the battery level is extremely low. Generally within 15-30 minutes, the Apple logo will appear on your iPod touch, it will start up, and your iPod touch will appear in the iTunes sidebar.
Hope this helps,
O.C.

To activate you have to enter the ID and password last used for Settings>iCloud. In most cases the Apple ID is used for Settings>iCloud but not always.

If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.

  • Ipod touch not recognized and will NOT reset, therefore none of the "regular" solutions apply.  The apple logo comes up, it boots to "connect to itunes" then stays there forever.  Unintallling reinstalling itunes components also failed.

I have tried all the regular solutions so please don't clog up the post with those suggestions.  This  problem has been presented many times in many different ways and NEVER solved.  I bought the Ipod touch 3g on ebay so it may have been jailbroken or attempts made in that regard.  What I want to know is:
IS THERE A HARDWARE PROBLEM THAT CAUSES THIS SYMPTOM, because I always hear the line "ipod firmware is indestructable" even if jailbreakers have messed with it.  I believe the only logical choices here are either ONE: the firmware on the ipod touch CAN be altered to make it inoperable, or TWO: There is a specific hardware malfunction that results in this symptom.    It would be nice if someone knows for sure one way or the other.  I am too far from a dealer to plug it in for analysis.  I am in Cedar Rapids Iowa and to my knowledge the closest hookup is DesMoines, about 120miles.

Thanks, you brought up an interesting subject---exactly WHAT happens when the battery is completely drained?  And what's the best way to drain it?  Do you usually HAVE to do a restore after a dead batt?  If so, maybe this is the solution. because it seems to think it has booted properly, and yet it won't continue past "connect to Itunes screen, then it soon goes into hybertation and power save just like normal.   Is ALL memory taken out of the device, like draining a cmos on a desktop,  I have been contemplating draining the bat just like holding in the power button to drain a cmos.  The only other logic that makes sense is the usb interface (as you mentioned, "iPod is not immune to hardware problems")  I bought TWO new cables, to no avail.  MAYBE it is a mechanical connection issue and not a software one, I guess I'll try that too.
edit:  sorry, missed this in your suggestion...as mentioned here, it does NOT stay on, but goes into power save so batt won't drain that way.

  • No app store present on iPod Touch 4th gen and can't sync apps in iTunes, tried restoring/updating

I've tried everything I know to fix this problem with no luck so far, I'm hoping someone can help. Note that iTunes has been updated to the latest version (and my friend's computer is running Windows 7, if that helps at all).
My friend has an iPod Touch 4th generation. A while back he asked me to help him get apps onto the iPod, and I discovered that the App Store on the iPod itself was nowhere to be found, nor can he remember ever having one. In addition to this, he can't sync apps onto the iPod from within iTunes - the option to sync in the apps tab is greyed out. The music/movies/etc. sync just fine, however. At the time, his iPod had iOS 4.1.
After checking for parental restrictions in his iTunes and the iPod, I found that his iPod has a restrictions password set, which he doesn't know. His parents have no memory of setting restrictions and don't know the password, either.
I read online that the only way to remove the restrictions password is to restore the iPod, and since this seemed to be a good idea anyway due to the odd issue with iTunes refusing to sync apps, we restored the iPod and updated to iOS 5.1 today. Unfortunately, the App Store is still nowhere to be found, and we still can't sync apps in iTunes. The iPod still claims a restrictions password has been set as well.
I have checked and double-checked that no restrictions are set in iTunes preferences. My friend created a new iTunes account, so that shouldn't be the problem. While we're hoping to get both iTunes sync and the iPod App Store app working properly, right now he just wants to be able to get apps onto his iPod.
Does anyone have any ideas why his iPod didn't come with an App Store app, why it still doesn't have the Store after restoring, why iTunes won't sync apps, or why the restrictions password is still set after the restore? I've honestly run out of ideas as to how to fix this.
Before I posted this, I did a little more looking online about the restrictions password, which is apparently restored along with a backup. Neither of us were present during the restore (we had to leave for a couple of hours after the restore had been started), so I'm only asking this because I don't have his iPod or computer with me at the moment to test it myself - is there a way to manually cancel restoring from a backup during the process? If so, I need to restore the iPod a second time.
In the meantime, any ideas about my other three questions?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Edit: His iTunes account is authorized, by the way.

What exactly happmens when you try? Error message?

I downloaded a movie on my ipod touch thinking I could cloud it to my ipad2, i bought it through itunes. I go to itunes and the only things i can cloud to my ipad are music and tv shows. Why can't my movie be clouded to my ipad2?

Movies are not one of the items you can reload via iClould like apps, music, and some other items.  You can contact iTunes and request a redownload,.  They may give you one.

  • Ipod touch is disabled and can't see it it itunes to restore

My Son's ipod touch has been disabled due to 'forgetting' his passcode!  (I told him not to change it!!)  Now it's my job to reset/restore it and as most mum's and dad's will agree my children know far more than me about technology... anyway......
...... I have connected his ipod to my laptop and looked at the manual which says I should see his ipod under 'devices' in itunes and will therefore be able to do a restore.  His ipod is not showing up so I tried connecting it to my Daughter's netbook just in case that one was the computer I last synched his ipod with but the same thing happens.  I think I am just not doing something I should be.  Please someone help me because I want to look clever to my six year old!!

Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to reset the passcode during this process:
iOS: Recovery Mode and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

  • HT1349 I Need help!! I lost my Ipod touch at school and can not find it anywhere

So, I keep my iPod touch in my back right pocket. It normally falls out when I sit down in a seat, but I get it back. But his time, I didn't! I kept retracing my steps for more then an hour but couldn't find it anywhere. I checked the school's office, I asked if anybody found an iPod, I tried texting it..but it's no where to be found.
I don't have any way to get the serial number, so contacting the police won't help..I have a passcode lock on my iPod, but people can jailbreak into it! IS there no hope of finding my iPod ever again?

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • My iPod Touch Is Dead and Won't Charge

I have a 2nd Generation 16GB iPod Touch.  I have had it for a year and half.  I use it very often.
Yesterday, it just all the sudden shut off.  It was low on battery, but it didn't even do it's usual black screen and the loading logo.  It just completely shut off to a black screen.  I immediately tried to charge it, but to no avail.  When I try to charge it, it jst shows the Apple logo over and over as if it's trying to shart back up, but won't.  I left it on the charger all night hoping it would resurrect, but that didn't happen either.  It won't charge at all.  I click the Home button and it shows the Charging bar.  All it hjas left is a little red bar at the end.  It recognizes that it is plugged into the computer because it has the little lightning strike under the bar that shows that it is indeed charging, or at least trying to charge.  When I unplug it, it has the little "plug > lighning strike" logo.  It's like it recognizes that it is plugged into a charger, but just won't charge.
I have already tried holding the Home and Power button numerous times, so don't tell me to do that.
My iPod Touch is not recognized by my computer or iTunes.
I really just want to get the songs off my broken iPod Touch, so if you know how to do that, then that will be fine as I will most likely buy a new iPod Touch.
    Please help me out.

If you've tried the poer cycle button and its not working I'd try a trip to the Genius bar. Do you have an Apple store nearby?

  • Ipod touch went dead.

my ipod touch went dead and has been charging for an hour.  screen is blank white, lit up.  home screen will not come up.  What do I do?

If iTunes recognizes your iPod Touch, then try doing a software restore in iTunes by clicking in your iPod and clicking the Restore button. This will restore your iPod to factory settings. So back up your Music, Videos, and purchases before restoring.
