Ipod touch is locked for 40 years

Ok my son lost his IPOD touch it has been missing for over a year..  Now after finding it it is locked and says you cannot try to unlock it for 21,336,450 minutes thats 40 years.  So I am stuck at a what to do it will not re set with my computer as it is a new one and it has never been sync with it before.  How can I unloack this and get it so he can use it again?

Ok, so it wasn't lost but obviously stolen and someone really went to town to screw you up. What happened when you plugged it into iTunes? If reseting doesn't work, I would advise you to take it to Apple.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recovery use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:
    Disabled Recovery-must use syncing computer.

  • I have had an iPod Touch 3rd Gen for two years and the apps have worked fine in the past. Suddenly the apps will not launch, they appear to start then just exit. Is there a reason why it is doing this?

I have had an iPod Touch 3rd Gen for two years pretty much and the apps have worked fine. Suddenly when I go on an app it appears to launch then just exits. I tried turning the iPod off and on again, but that made all my apps behave like that. Settings and those things work fine still. Should this suddenly happen? I dont want to lose all 204 apps.

    - First try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try downloading/installing a new app
    - Restore from backup
    - Last, resore to factory defaults/new iPod.  this is last result since you will lose app data.

  • I have had my Ipod touch 4th gen for 2+ years and was working fine until I upgraded to ios 6.1.3. Now I cannot play games and most of my apps keep crashing.

My ipod was working just fine for the past 2 years and ever since upgrading to ios 6.1.3, i simply cannot play games or anymore such as Subway surfers, carrot fantasy, 4 pics 1 word, etc. I also noticed that i had 1.2 GB of free space on ios 5.1.1 but then decreased to 900+ MB after "upgrading" to ios 6.1.3. I then deleted one of my space-hungry apps (the sims freeplay) to clear up some space and now have 1.6 GB of free memory. Just a thought, could apple have purposely done this with their software update to actually make an older, phased-out product such as my ipod touch 4th gen work worse than it has in its  previous versions of softwares to force you to scrap it for a newer product?

    - Double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • HT1212 Why is my iPod touch is locked for 22,227,674 minutes?

I do not know how this happened because I was not the one to lock it, if someone locked it. I've tried to hard reset it but it will not do one, I've turned it off and on plenty of times, and it has died and been charged plenty of times. How did this happen? How do I fix this problem? How do I prevent it from happening again? Will my stuff be backed up? Will it delete if this is fixed? Please help.

  • I've had my iPod touch 4g 64gb for 3 years, can I get it fixed or replaced?

Yeah it just broke and I don't have a warranty on it anymore, what should I do? Help please

You can still get it replaced but you will have to pay 199$. (because you have a 64GB model and you don't have warranty left).
Note that Apple will replace it with the same model only. (Same model - same capacity - same color)

  • How do I reset my ipod from my computer because it is locked for 42 years !?

My ipod says it is locked for 42 years. I can't reset it on my actual ipod because it's locked and I don't know how to do it via my computer. Technology isn't my forte ! I need simple instructions and apple is exactly helping with the situation because it seems no one else has has this issue.

    Try this:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • HT1212 My daughter's ipod touch is disabled for the next 43 years. Any hints on what she may have done to cuase this and how to fix it?

My daughter's ipod touch is disabled for the next 43 years. Any hints on how to fix this? I have followed the steps listed on the apple website to p lace it into recovery mode, but the ipod is now "stuck" on the connect to itunes part. Thanks!

Sounds like a case of entering an incorrect passcode over and over.  Only fix is to follow the instructions in that article you reference, HT1212, and it may take a couple tries to get it to work right.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
