IPod touch iTunes backup

what exactly does it back up? Applications. does it back up the /Applications folder? what about the /var folder? thanks

I can't think of a way to read the file but you could always restore your iPod back to that backup.

I receive the follwing error message when trying to open my ipod touch/itunes "the itunes libary.itlfile is lockedon  a lockdisk or you do not have write permission on this file. How do I resolve this problem?

    Repair iTunes Security Permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Securitytab and click Advanced. Use the Change Permissions... button grant to your account (or the Users group) and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to Replace permissions entries... which will repair permissions throughout the library. When complete switch to the General tab, click in the Read-only check box to clear it, then click Apply.
If you don't have the option to change the permissions then use the Owner tab and Edit... button to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges. Tick the option to Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Repeat with the media folder if it isn't stored inside the main iTunes folder.
If you've brought over the library from another computer you may also want to remove any "mystery" identities (S<string of dashes & digts>) that have come over from the old computer...
The images above are from Windows 7. Hopefully the system isn't too different in Windows 8.

  • Every time i try to sync my 4th gen ipod touch itunes won't recognise it and the ipod keeps beeping - is there anything I can do?

This is really frustrating.  Every time i try to sync my 4th gen ipod touch itunes won't recognise it and the ipod keeps beeping - is there anything I can do? I've tried using different cables. Itunes works fine with my family members ipod's & iphones...

The best way to manage your music when you have multiple iPods is to change the settings under "Options" so that you manually manage your music instead of it doing an automatic synch each time you connect.  To add only the songs you want, highlight them and then "click and drag" them to your iPod.  This way none of your daughter's music gets added and you're not in danger of deleting your playlist as well.  It will show you how many songs you've added and you can then click on your iPod to verify.  To delete her songs off your iPod now, click on the music tab under your iPod so show everything you have stored.  Find those songs you want to delete, click on them to highlight then go up to the Edit window and click delete. This will erase them off your iPod but be careful when you highlight.  I did that and then had to reload a cd on my boyfriend's, lol. hope this helps

  • When i want to synce my ipod touch itunes remove my apps what should i do?

when i want to synce my ipod touch itunes remove my apps what should i do?

Well, there's the problem... iDevices cannot sync with multiple computers.
The device and iTunes are doing exactly what they are designed to do.
Did all the apps on the device come from your friends computer?  If so, there is no way to sync with your computer and maintain the apps that do not belong to you.

The iPod Touch should be similar to an iPad.  See if this article helps:  <How to Sync an iPad With a New Computer - eHow.com>
Another article appears to go a little further:  <How to Sync an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with a new computer>.

  • Ipod touch 1G backup missing with iTune 10

When I connect my iPod touch 1G, iTunes is syncrnizing the music but if I want to run a restore, I can't find any backups.
Do you know what has changed with new iTunes releases ?
    How I can run a backup/restore?
Hope Apple coud respond to this question?
    Thanks
    Liberato

    - This is a user-to-user forum.  Apple really does not respond in any official way.
    - If you go to Preferences in iTunes on your computer the backups are shown in the Device tab.  Are any list there?
Backups can also be found here:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.
When your iPod is connected to your computer if you right click on your iPod under Devices on the left you can select the backup option.  When you sync, making a backup is the first step.

  • After iOS 4 update on iPod Touch, iTunes crashes when iPod is connected.

I just updated my iPod from 3.1.3 to iOS 4, and after all of that, when I plug in my iPod Touch 2G [version 4.0 (8A293)] to my laptop, iTunes crashes. A window pops up saying "iTunes has stopped working," and then iTunes closes automatically. When I do not already have iTunes open and I connect my iPod, iTunes will open and then close a few seconds later with the same pop up box.
I tried seeing if it was a syncing or connecting issue, so I turned off automatic syncing and the problem still exists. Therefore, I think it is a connection issue.
*Note: When I was updating to iOS 4, I left and came back to my computer with it running on idle. Could that have had an effect? If so, how can I just redo everything?
**Another note that may be helpful is that while I do still have all of my music and videos in iTunes (which works totally fine with no iPod attached), the videos and music is NOT on my iPod. But, my apps all work fine on my iPod.
I would really appreciate any sort of help I could get for this problem. I was really looking forward to the OS update, but now I am disappointed because of this major problem.
    THANK YOU for your help!

I would try moving the existing iPod backup file to a safe locations and let iTunes make a whole new one.  The location of of the backup file is:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

  • IPod Touch 4G Backup Missing

I have an iPod Touch 4G with the most recent software and iTunes on my MacBook Pro.  For whatever reason, the audio quit working on my iPod.  After turning it off and back on, still didn't work. Ditto with re-synching it.  So I go to restore it.  I back it up, and restore.  Well, I get an error message when I try to restore.  No code, just an error message.  I try to restore with prior backups listed, and I keep getting the error message.  So I have apparently lost all my app data, including in-app purchases.  I keep getting the error message with older backups that are saved.  Any suggestions for what I can do?  Where are all the backups that I am supposed to have from when I synch?  According to my computer (when I go through the path listed in the support forums), I have backup from today (which don't work), from July 21st, (which don't work), and from Feb.  I synch my iPod MUCH more frequently than that!  I do not have a more recent time machine backup (which I guess I need to start doing more frequently!) to get a more recent backup than that.
Edit:  I also have an iPad, which I backedup and restored to try to put some of the data from my iPod onto it.  As I have only had it for a few days (1st gen), I don't have much information on it to lose yet.  Interstingly, after the restore from backup failed from my iPod data, I was able to restore from my iPad backup that I just did with no problem.  I don't know why it will backup and restore on my iPad but not on my iPod.

My error message from my older backups says "because some files could not be restores from the backup."  I have no idea how to get around this.  The ones on my Time Machine from April also say this.

  • Why is my ipod touch saying "backup corrupt or not compatible" error message?

My iPod touch has been fine for years and I only really add new music sporadically. Now I am getting an error message saying that it cannot back up my iPod because it is corrupt or not compatible with the iPod. I have already done a factory reset and it still has not fixed the issue.

Did you try deleting the existing backup?
iTunes>Preferences>Devices and select that backup and click on Delete?

  • I have a new Mac PC but my IPod touch ITunes account was on my old desk top, how do I get all my music on my new MAC? It appears I might have 2 ITunes accounts which is why my IPod is not synching all the songs, please help.

I have a new MAC PC with an old IPod Touch that was synch to my old desktop, how do I get the new music on my new MAC if I might have had an old account?

The article in my previous reply said:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases from iPod to computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - For non-Tunes purchases you need to use a third-party program. Several are discussed in the link in my previous reply
    - Then to sync with the new computer after getting all synced media like apps and music on the new computer yo have to backup the iPod to iTunes and restore from that backup
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

  • Ipod touch: iTunes not working

    Hi,
I own a 64GB iPod Touch (3rd gen, no camera), and recently I noticed that the iTunes app has stopped working. I cannot preview music, and the whole app just jams after I choose albums etc. after the main screen.
I updated the iOS to 5.1.1 with no help. After that I resorted to restoring the iPod from the backup files, again with no help.
The peculiar thing is that absolutely everything else set on iPod (App store, mail, web etc.) works fine. I can also purchase music by connecting the iPod to PC so my iTunes account seems to be ok.
If I missed any threads or posts linked to possible solutions, I'd be grateful for links etc.
    cheers,
    Jari

i believe there is a way to revert to an older os if you still have the file on your pc...if not then you'll have to take it up with apple...maybe they can give you a link to an older version...do not follow the links on google, for most of these have a malware hidden within...i found this out the hard way

  • IPod Touch Bookmark Backup

I recently bought a new computer and got rid of my old one. I backed up all of my songs, videos, etc. from iTunes, but not my bookmarks. Is there any way to backup my bookmarks now?? I don't want to have to write or type up all my bookmarks before I go to setup my iPod on my new computer.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it wouldn't let me download it on my iPod. Then I read up on it and it said that for the ipod touch program you can't add bookmarks just yet, but it will be coming soon.
