Ipod touch/Itunes making PC lock up

Guys,
I am after some advice. I have had a new 32gb ipod to replace my old 5th gen pod for about 3 months. I am running a windows pc with XP and never had any issues with my old pod with this. But since I have made the last 2 updates to itunes & touch 1st tunes would take an age to show my touch (this was sorted with the last relase) and now with my new 2.02 update to the touch my pc seems to lock up about every 30 mins. I have a nightmare updating to the new software as it locked my system mid update and I had to do a complete restore now I am adding all my music back to my touch but it keeps on freezing my pc so I have to turn off the pc and start again lucky for me its not losing the music I replace each time !
So any advice would be great like is there a clash in the touch software with windows is there something I am missing ??? Should I disable my wi fi on my pod before connecting to the pc ?? I am not great with tech but know a little but this is starting to annoy as no other programs make this happen.
Many thanks in advance

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to the iPod and iPhone. However there are a few third party utilities that are advertised as iPhone and iPod Touch compatible which can be used to retrieve the music files and playlists etc. Have a look at the web sites and help pages for these ones and see what you think or check the web for reviews:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

If You Are Locked Out Or Have Forgotten Your Passcode or Just Need to Restore Your Device

      2. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
      3. iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore, then restore as New.
If you are restoring to fix a forgotten Restrictions Code or as a New device, then skip Step 9 and restore as New.

  • I have lost my ipod touch but i have locked it is there a way to access the data inside?

I lost my ipod touch, but i have locked it, is there a way that others one can access my data.?

No, they cannot. The only way for them to bypass the passcode is to restore it as new in iTunes, and that would erase all of your data.

  • HT1212 ipod touch 4 screen is locked and has boxes around clock

My brand new ipod touch 4 has a locked screen. When I try and slide the bar it doesn't do anything but a "block" similar to a text box appears around the clock. Anyone have a suggestion to fix this problem?

I think you have the accessibility VoiceOver feature turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off and any other one off.. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:

I was adding more apps & was on the safari then my Ipod touch started unlocking and locking itself. tried to turn itself off & making sounds like it was taking a picture but I dont even have a camera on it. I think it might be a virus but I dont want to hook it up to the computer to restore it incase it is a virus I dont want it on the computer too! Please help!!

It's not a virus. Try resetting your iPod Touch to see if that clears the problem.
To Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

I receive the follwing error message when trying to open my ipod touch/itunes "the itunes libary.itlfile is lockedon  a lockdisk or you do not have write permission on this file. How do I resolve this problem?

    Repair iTunes Security Permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Securitytab and click Advanced. Use the Change Permissions... button grant to your account (or the Users group) and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to Replace permissions entries... which will repair permissions throughout the library. When complete switch to the General tab, click in the Read-only check box to clear it, then click Apply.
If you don't have the option to change the permissions then use the Owner tab and Edit... button to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges. Tick the option to Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Repeat with the media folder if it isn't stored inside the main iTunes folder.
If you've brought over the library from another computer you may also want to remove any "mystery" identities (S<string of dashes & digts>) that have come over from the old computer...
The images above are from Windows 7. Hopefully the system isn't too different in Windows 8.

  • My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll?

My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years  and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll, the applications can be redownloaded and she had no music. Is there any known bug about ipods locking on their own because no one seemed to have tried to bypass the 4 digit code and it is locked for 26 million minutes. So thank you if anyone has any information or help for us.

Your friend may have placed the ipod next to an object that repeatedly pressed the screen.  Under certain circumstances this can lead to what appears to the iTouch to be failed attempts to access the system.  After repeated failed attempts, the Touch increases the waiting time required for the password and may ultimately lock in the way you describe.
It's been a while since this was posted, but this might be informative to someone else who finds themself in a similar predicament.

This is really frustrating.  Every time i try to sync my 4th gen ipod touch itunes won't recognise it and the ipod keeps beeping - is there anything I can do? I've tried using different cables. Itunes works fine with my family members ipod's & iphones...

The best way to manage your music when you have multiple iPods is to change the settings under "Options" so that you manually manage your music instead of it doing an automatic synch each time you connect.  To add only the songs you want, highlight them and then "click and drag" them to your iPod.  This way none of your daughter's music gets added and you're not in danger of deleting your playlist as well.  It will show you how many songs you've added and you can then click on your iPod to verify.  To delete her songs off your iPod now, click on the music tab under your iPod so show everything you have stored.  Find those songs you want to delete, click on them to highlight then go up to the Edit window and click delete. This will erase them off your iPod but be careful when you highlight.  I did that and then had to reload a cd on my boyfriend's, lol. hope this helps
