IPod touch LCD

I was just wondering, how many colours can the iPod touch's LCD display?

Isn't it obvious? I mean think computer screen - you don't get that color on 256 or even a 16K palette.
OK, here's one "source":
http://threebyfive.wordpress.com/2007/03/06/alternatives-to-iphone/
a quote from there:
+The iPhone uses a multitouch technology and has a 3.5 inches screen (320×480 pixels) with 16M colours.+
There was another site I found after Googling it, but I can't find it easily now.

  • Probable explanation for Ipod Touch LCD deficiencies

I'm an engineer with experience in the LCD industry and after seeing enough photos of the Ipod Touch I feel that I can make a pretty accurate assessment of the "black level" situation. It appears to me that it's a problem with the *anti-reflective coating*. The good news is this is most likely a temporary situation due to quality control issues.
(Added explanation: The AR coating is essentially a clear layer that prevents light from reflecting off of that surface. What's happening here is the upper glass layer is reflecting light from the LCD screen back down onto the said screen. Without an AR coating you get exactly what you see - shimmering blacks. The problem isn't noticeable with vibrant colors on screen. Rotating the screen will change the way this light is reflected to your eyes and may minimize the problem, but since the LCD was engineered to give best color output when looking straight on, you're left with a losing battle.)
Apple surely rushed the factory on getting these out (Steve was likely already upset enough that they weren't ready for the announcement along with the other units) and the factory, under undoubtedly ridiculous amounts of pressure, started to skimp on this very expensive - and very important - part of the process. Additionally, AR coating issues would also explain why you see "slight changes" from one unit to the next.
It's the last thing anyone wants to hear, but the best thing to do is wait 2 weeks or even a month for the complaints to filter through Apple HQ into the factory where changes will certainly be made.
Good luck all - and to those who got good units congrats!

I am certain that your explanation is correct, or at least close to the mark.
The unit is displaying blacks, it's not a display driver or codec problem. When you tilt the screen the image improves in that aspect, but degrades in other aspects (colors fade as normally happens, etc.) And who wants to have to watch all movies on your iPod with the screen tilted away at an angle?
There's no reason why you should get this problem with looking directly at the screen, that's why I'm certain it's hardware related.

  • Ipod Touch LCD Screen

Does anybody know if the LCD touch screen on the latest version of the iPod touch is the same as the LCD screen used in the 3G iPhone?

Looking at iFixit's site the connectors seem to be in different places:
    http://www.ifixit.com/iPhone-Parts/iPhone-3G-Display/IF137-001
    http://www.ifixit.com/iPod-Parts/iPod-Touch-Gen-1-Color-Display/IF132-000
Probably cheaper just to get the part from iFixit anyhow - shame the pound is so weak at the moment

  • Ipod touch lcd problems?

Sorry, I am not up to date with apple's ipod touch.
Googling brought me to a thread talking about the negative effect in the screen.
If I buy the 32gb version off of amazon http://www.amazon.com/Apple-iPod-touch-32-GB/dp/B0012JNQYK/ref=pdbbs_sr1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1205636340&sr=8-1
    will it be okay?
    Thanks

It was actually addressed with the 1.1.2 firmware update.
If you see that, it's likely bad videos.

  • QUICK ANSWER.Apple iPod touch 2nd gen. Digitizer and LCD replacement help.

    Hi,
I bought a digitizer from amazon and a LCD from there. And I got them today. When I installed my LCD I got a white screen, but restored ( I didn't have my digitizer on) so I tried to touch my LCD when it said slide to unlock, but nothing unresponsive and it still is. I put my digitizer on but I only had one screw that holding down the battery. And i connected it and nothing. Took it out, now I googled why it dos t work and it said "logic board" how do I know if it's broke. iPod touch 2nd gen 8gb

LCD stands for Liqued Crystal Display and isn't the problem.
the digitizor has a meaning in which i just forgot and
why in the world are YOU replacing the stuff???
    hope i helped?!

  • Ipod touch 4g dock and lcd repair/replacement costs

I have recently broke my ipod's lcd screen in a unneccesary attempt to repair the dock connector. I am concerned that it may have voided my warranty, and I haven't taken it apart fully. I have found out the answer to why my ipod stopped syncing about 2 months ago and has recently been unable to charge because I attempted to get the metal prongs back in place, which may have also voided my warranty. I bought my ipod touch in April 2012 and it broke in December to the point where it is unusable. My budget is pretty flat and i'm wondering how much the repair cost would be and if I should consider buying a new ipod touch or getting the one I have now repaired. I cannot find any place where I can get it repaired at a discount price, and I'm also wondering if I can get my ipod repaired at no charge since it is still less than a year old.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 8, 16 or 32 GB one or $199 for 64 GB one. They do not fix yours.

  • 32 GB ipod Touch 4G LCD screen color quality

I have recently bough an 32 gb Ipod Touch 4G. However, the LCD screen color quality is significantly lower compared to my old 8 GB ipod Touch 4G. The black is more gray and the white is more blue, and the overall colors are more washed out compare to the 8 GB. On the other hand the viewing angles are a bit better, which i dont care.
I was very disappointed about the product. If i were'nt an ipod 4G user before, i may not be notice the difference.
However, if you compare it side by side, the difference is huge for me. Once i put them together, i decided not to use the new one. It lost the meaning for me.
Is Apple changed the LCD's in new products. A picture is worth to million words I will submit a picture as soon as i can.
Is there a software solution for this or any idea how to fix it ?

I had a similar issue with mine. It seemed like it had a yellowish hue to it. I called Apple and sent it in. They sent it back and said there was nothing wrong with it. I always thought the screens were the same as on the iPhone 4, but they are NOT! I sold mine on eBay and bought a used iPhone 4. What a difference!

  • Non-working LCD for iPod Touch 4G

    Hi there,
I have a 4g 8GB iPod touch that was recently knocked into a mug of water.  I did the bad thing of hitting the home button when I pulled it out to see if it was functional... the screen predictably flashed the password screen, then went black.  It did not operate or function for a few days, even after a rice bag was tried.  I then moved it into a bag with silica packets for a few days, then charged it.  It then would turn on, at least according to the noises it was making.  My iMac would also recognize it.  I could even slide my finger across the point where I knew the unlock slider was, and could hear it unlock.  The problem is that the LCD does not light up, even after a full restore.
I don't know whether to take it into the Apple store (it's not under warranty anymore), order parts and fix it myself (I don't know what part exactly needs replacing, though I've opened my computers and done work before).
Any suggestions?  If all else fails, I plan on selling it for parts and using the money to invest in a new Touch when they come out later this year.
It would be a shame though, since it still functions, at least everything but the LCD.
    Thanks in advance!

  • My 4th gen ipod touch front glass is touching the Lcd on the left corner of the screen were the facetime app stands and it makes a smug, am I able to get that fixed?

If you press on the left corner were the facetime app stand then it will make a smug while the glass is touching the LCD. The ipod touch is brand new with no cracks at all. Can I please get it fixed?

No idea what"it will make a smug" means, but if you believe your ipod to be defective, then make an appointment at the genius bar.  If they determine it is defective, then they will repair/replace.

  • How much does it cost ; in the UK, to fix the LCD on an iPod Touch 4th generation 32gb.

Basically if it is close to the price of a new one then I will just a new one. But because I'm short of money will it be cheap to repair it, or shall I might as well buy a new one. I also need an iPod Touch before February when I go to Italy. I also need to know if apple will fix it since my warranty ran out last week.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. Scroll to find your country. It is about 1/2 the price of a new one.
