Sounds like you actually have a 1st generation as those cannot update beyond iOS 3.1.3.

Ipod touch locks up when syncing
Hello-
My Ipod touch syncs fine with Itunes 8.0.1.11 when syncing apps or playlists. As soon as I check "sync all music and playlists" Itunes locks up on me. Any ideas?Sorry, I forgot to say that I also had downloaded the newest Iphone software package for the Ipod touch. This freezeing up issue was happening before that tough.

A Huge Problem with my iPod touch 5th Generation - Cannot Sync or Hard Reset
It's Impossible unless Somebody has a suggestion on how to fix this "problem".
This iPod 5th Generation appears to have a black screen. Whenever i charge it. It goes to charging screen that Battery symbol and the lightning bolt below the Battery symbol. You cannot turn it on or reach to the apple logo. Cannot do a Hard reset (Sleep button + Home button at the same time). It stays as it was. Charging for 5 Hours now...What a big waste. Got this iPod less then a month. Called help to fix the problem at apple store which i have an appointment in 2 days. But if any suggestions would work on my iPod. Then i don't need to go to the appointment.
Please. Somebody help me fix that iPod. Stuck at black screen. Can't goto the apple logo. So whenever i unplug the recharger. It goes black screen instead of battery required to charge or something like that.
Anybody help?Here:
Not Charge
- See:
iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
- Try another cable
- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
or
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Hi everybody
need some help with my ipod touch 1 gen.
It works fine, i can charge it throug ac connector, but i can't load other music or do anything, because itunes does'nt see it (mac and pc is the same, it seems the problem comes from ipod).
when i plug it in the usb port it does'nt charge too.
so.. no way to reset it through itunes either.
itunes is updated to the last version and ipod too (Firmware 3.1).
ipod is clean, no jailbrake.
any ideas?
it seems that there is no solution on the web.
i hope i'm wrong..
thanks for answering- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and cracked or broken plastic.

Ipod touch freezes when every its trying to reset
So i decided to reset my ipod and when ever its on the apple screen with the little loading circle it would freeze and then restart and and freeze again. I do not no what to do.
Help please.I would place the iPod in recovery mode and try to restore it. See:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If that does not work I would let the battery fully discharge via the repeating freeze and restart and then try charing it and see what happens when you either turn it on or reset it. -
i downloaded apps from the itunes store and tried to sync them to my ipod touch but its not syncing.i even restarted my ipod several times but it doesnt seem to work....i tried to delete and re-install the apps but that too doesnt seem to work... and while syncing, the apps are shown in my ipod and after the ipod is synced the apps disappear... dunno wat to do .................please help........
Do you have Restrictions set that prevent adding the apps? (Settings>General>Restrictions).

Ipod Touch went blank while updating apps
ipod touch went blank while updating new apps i was updating enigmo it was syncing with itunes using windows then itunes got hanged and ipod touch also
now its screen is black and i tried to reboot it but cant i press all buttons nothign happening and ipod is very hot even though its not connected to itunes any one can help me?First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again. -
My Ipod is locked since my daughter tried too many times trying to put the password. Now it says " iPod is disabled" connect to iTunes, but when I connect to iTunes it says "Please enter the password to access"
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
