IPod touch locking up

So I have an iPod touch 2G, and about a month ago, I was running iPhone OS 3.0, and the battery stayed at 20% for 2 days. I was surfing Macrumors on it and it went blank. Like when you shut a computer off by cutting the power, the image stays on the screen and then fades away, that happened on my touch. So I get about a day in standby now, and will most likely need a new battery right?
But I also have another BIG issue. When this all happened, sometimes after leaving my iPod touch alone for 5 min and it's in sleep, the sleep/wake button and home button won't wake it up. I then have to do a hard reset on it to get it working only for it to do it again. So when iPhone OS 3.3.1 came out, I did a DFU restore and update to 3.1.1, and set it up as a new iPod. I have no Apps installed and the issue keeps happening, but more and more often. I had to reset it 7 times today. Last evening I, plugged it in at 6:30 PP and it was finished charging at 8:45PM, so I unplugged it and then woke up at 1:00 AM and had to do a hard reset on it to wake it up, it was cold and not hot, but I had 20% battery remaining. I plugged it back in and was fine today (beside reseting it) Also a issue in the 3.1. FW or my iPod, is that when I type on the keyboard, sometimes it get stuck at a letter and freezes. Other time it locks up when launching/quitting an App or even browsing my 2 home-screens.
I deleted the .ipsw and re-downloaded it and did another DFU mode restore+ setting it up as a new iPod and no luck.
So What is wrong with my iPod beside the bad battery?

I am having the same problem, but with a 1G iPod touch: I have to do a reset in order to wake it up, several times a day which is pretty annoying when you just want to look up something quickly and then have to wait for it restart.
Like ouimetnick I am also experiencing low battery performance, often going from full to 20% within half hour of use. (Looks like I'd need a new battery, too.) Could this be the underlying issue?
I doesn't seem to happen when the iPod is plugged in, but leaving it plugged in to use it is certainly not a long term solution...
Before I go out and cough up the money for a new battery, I like to know if this would really fix my issues. Any ideas?

  • TS2446 my ipod touch locked after several attempts with the wrong password. how to i reset?

my ipod touch locked after several attempts with the wrong password. how do i reset the password.

If it's showing the disabled screen due to too many incorrect passcode attempts then you will need to connect it to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPod and restore/re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPod into recovery mode in order to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

  • My ipod touch locks up and when i reset it it will not come back on.

my ipod touch locks up and when i reset it it will not come back on. when i plug it to my computer it wont come back on. it does this often and after a couple of days it will finally turn back on.

Have you tried restoring the iPod via itunes on your computer? First restore from backup and if problem persists restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • My friend changed the password on my ipod touch lock, aI have tried multiple times to input the correct password. But I attempted too many times and I was locked out. The screen is red and says "connect to itunes'. But I cant connect to itunes.

My friend changed the password on my ipod touch. And now I am locked out because I tried too many times. I can no longer put in a password, and I can't connect to itunes because it says "must input passcode first before connecting", even though the ipod says to connect to itunes

Place the iPod into recovery mode in order to restore the iPod with iTunes.

  • IPod Touch locked up after upgrading to 2.0.2.  Can I get it back?

Last night, I upgraded to 2.0.2, and let it install completely.
Then I saw that the Cube Runner app was upgraded to 1.2. I started the install process on the iPod to download and install the app via my WiFi connection.
When I woke up this morning, It appeared to lock up during the install. the WiFi star that rotates when data passes through was stopped, and the progress bar of the install was still about half.
I give it a reboot by pressing both buttons. I plug it into my laptop with iTunes on it, and it turns on with the apple logo, and nothing's happened since.
What can I do to recover this?
    Thanks.

try putting your ipod touch into dfu mode by holding the sleep/wake button and home button for 10 seconds, then let go of the sleep/wake button (make sure it is connected to your computer) and continue to hold the home button for 10 to 15 seconds or until itunes reads it as an iphone in recovery mode that needs to be restored, if you need more help on this just go to youtube and type in dfu mode in the search field

  • 3rd gen iPod touch lock button issues

Recently my 3rd gen iPod touch started giving me problems with the lock button.  If I press the lock button the screen will turn on and off rapidly and then the power off screen will come up.  It will just keep doing this over and over; I've tried to restore it but no luck there.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the switch needs to be replaced. You might try this until you get it serviced.

  • IPod touch locks itself.

I just updated my iPod touch 4th Gen. Ever since the lock button seems to lock my iPod automattically and then if I leave it long enough without touching it the slider will show up to turn it off. What can I do?

    - Does it appear that the on/off/power button is working correctly and not sticking?
    - Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • IPod Touch locked out

My daughter locked her iPod Touch, I believe it's 3rd Gen. I have no idea which operating system it has (it was a gift from a friend). Anyway, she forgot the password and it's now locked out. She's tried to connect it to iTunes, but it's not being recognized. I'm totally at a loss on what to do. Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated (REALLY don't wanna spend any $$ for this )Thanks!

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • 5th generation iPod touch lock screen suddenly does not function/ or respond to touch?

Recently, I was using my iPod touch to take a picture of the beach, while I was at the beach. It functioned perfectly well, but afterwards the lock screen did not respond to touch. It is 100% battery at the moment. Though my hands were just a tiny bit wet at the time, I do not believe the issue is hardware related. I also do not believe this is related to the fact that my hands were wet while using the device. This is because when I swipe down to open my notification on the lock screen, it responds to my touch.  Although I cannot access any of the apps on notification center, and it will not respond when I click on notifications, the software does allow me to open notification center.
I cannot slide to unlock my iPod touch, all of a sudden. Also, I cannot open the camera app via the lock screen either. When a friend texted me (through iMessage), a notification showed up on the lock screen. The only action the lock screen allows me to do is access the notification center.
Also, when connected to my Mac and wall charger, it will charge. I am currently operating on iOS 7.1.1, so I have been due for a software update.
Would updating through my iMac solve this problem? Also I plan on backing up all the data onto my computer (esp. photos). How should I solve this problem? If I were to upgrade to iOS 7.1.2 would it be helpful? I believe this is merely a software issue, not a hardware issue with the touch screen. I have had this iPod touch since February 2013 and it has a 32 GB capacity.
    Thanks to everyone who answers
p.s. Has a similar issue like this ever occurred to anyone?
