Ipod touch maps inaccurate

Ipod touch maps cannot find an address, but if I use safari and go to either mapquest or yahoo maps, I can find this address. Also if I use computer and go to google maps, it also finds this address. There appears to be a software problem with the Touch maps feature.

I think you misunderstand. I am not using the locater feature---I am simply using the map feature by typing in address in question, but the map feature will not find. Therefore, I assume that the database which the ipod touch map uses does not contain this address. Mapquest, yahoo maps, and google maps databases do contain this address.
Conclusion is that whoever's database that ipod touch uses is inaccurate. I have gone directly to the skyhookwireless website where they have a similar address search---same problem---no address found.
Missing addresses in areas which are shown to be covered is a problem--it makes the ipod touch maps feature somewhat unusable.

  • Using iPod Touch maps

I have downloaded the new iPod Touch software but when i try and use the Maps for directions it thinks everyone in my address book libves in the US even though i have checked all through my Outlook address book and it clearly states their country of residence as UK. it is driving me insane!! please help..

Same here (in Australia). It seems that any contact which does not have an explicit country defaults to "United States" in the Contacts->Maps lookup. If you set the Contact's country explicitly (which may require you to change it to something else, then back to UK) then it seems to work.
I sent a bug report about this to the feedback page a few days ago.

  • Ipod Touch maps

Is it possible to put in more than one destination and be shown a route?
For example I mapped a route from my home to my son's college and it routes me through Washington D.C. This is always a mess for traffic and delays so I want to route myself around DC and through another place then to His College. I can do this on Google maps, because it allows more than one destination, however I can't find this ability on my ipod touch.
    Is it possible?
    Thanks in advance

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You can look anywhere in the world wherever you are in the world, although not everywhere has the same level of detail (i.e. seas and deserts have less detail).
So long as you can find a Hotspot you can see street level maps in a city.

  • Ipod Touch Maps Problem

I downloaded the new Apps for the Ipod Touch and have updated everything so that I could get them only to try the feature on Google Maps, where it finds where you are using a Wifi network, not work. Any ideas on what I could do to possibly make it work?

You need to remember that the only way Google maps can find your location when using wifi is if the router that your connected too is listed and has a entry within Google's db.
For the people at home more then likely this is the router your router is connected to and thus the main reason why some people see an error in locating their physical location. In cities with larger populations using their ISPs network, they will have more routers thus will be able to get a better "fix" on your position. People living in rural areas or using the not so popular ISP in your area may see location off by several 10s of miles.
The touch can not use cell towers to locate you location because the itouch does not call a cell phone receiver built in (only the Iphone can do this without the need of a db. It actualy uses the time it takes to get a response from the closest cell towers (more then 1)).
You may be using a public hot spot that is mounted to a cell tower but that is not using cell towers triangulation, it's simply using the wifi's routers info that is programed into the router and read by a whois of said device (it's IP address).
You can double check this by entering your IP (public) address into one of the internet's IP search tools that will map your IP address
    One I use is:
    http://www.ipaddresslocation.org/
Main page will give you your public IP and some guested info based on router info. You can then use one of their links to map this info and see how close it comes. For me it's very close, but I live in a large city with a very high adoption rate for cable broad band so there are more routers with whois info, thus a better result.
hope this helps some of you understand how this works with your Itouch.

  • Wanted: iPhone/iPod Touch Maps bookmark folders

Is there any way to create folders to organize my bookmarked locations in Maps? II want to organize them to reduce the amount of scrolling I currently have to do. I'd love to be able to group places by city or activity. Wouldn't it be great to be able to group all the locations you visited on vacation in one folder and then be able to e-mail them to friends and family? If folders can be created for Safari bookmarks, why not for Maps?
And while I'm asking, is there a way to ship the bookmarks to Google Maps or, better yet, Google Earth?
    Thanks.

Since this is a user to user forum, you may want to put the request to Apple:

  • IPod Touch maps - can you save maps?

The maps feature looks cool, but can you save maps for use when away from a hotspot? Can you get directions, then use them on the road?

When in the Directions mode, check out the "Overview" screen once you have a route loaded. It shows a high-level map with the route plotted. Now, tap the "Start" button at the top right, and it will zoom/pan the map to the route start with the directions at the top. Then, press the "<-" or "->" arrows at the top right to step forward and backward through the directions. The map zooms and pans accordingly displaying the directions at the top. Map area outside the screen at each direction point is obviously not visible because it is not loaded.
No WiFi required once the route is loaded. Very nice!!
UPDATE: It appears that BOTH the "Map" and "Satellite" views are downloaded with the route, so you can view the route either way. (But interestingly, the "Hybrid" view is not visible.)

  • Help! ipod touch map feature always says no search results found

no matter which address, city, if I enter an address directly or select from the contacts.
if I go to google maps in safari it brings up my addresses quickly and without any trouble. (very nice)
    sooooo
    whats the trick with maps?
(I have also updated to 1.1.4...no difference)

yes wifi is on...as I can use safari to to actually validate that an address does bring up the google map; it works great in the browser its just regardless of what I enter into the maps line (address, city, county, whatever)...
it just says "no search results found"
as this is a "complete" failure of the map program I was hoping the solution would be easy...guess not
to summarize...internet connection works great, safari web browsing never fails, using safari to find addresses on maps.google also works without a hitch.
using the maps program ALWAYS shows a blank background and says no search results found....always...

  • My iPod touch with iOS 4.3.3 (with Portuguese language) shows maps in Chinese, making it impossible to use the function "Itinerary". What can be?

Recently restored my iPod touch (32GB, 3rd Generation, iOS 4.3.3 in Portuguese,non-jailbroken) and when I went to use the application "Maps", I came across it in Chinese. Iq do not understand nothing of the language. I've been on the "Settings > General > International > Region Format > Brazil" and to no avail.
And this is not happening only in the iPod, but in my iPad (1st generation 32GB, withsame settings)
    What should I do?
Is that the problem is on Google or on my iPod?
    See the screenshots:
In the bar "Itineraries," these Chinese characters (or Japanese) are hindering my life ...
The entire map is in Chinese.
    Please, help me!

I Restored my iPod and now it is working perfectly!

  • Maps Application on Ipod Touch 2g

My partner recently bought an ipod touch 2g but cannot get the location to work on maps at home via our wireless router even though i can detect it on my iPhone. Safari works on it just not maps - any ideas how to rectify??
    Thanks
    Ange

The iPhone used GPS to determine location, while the iPod touch uses WiFi triangulation, the latter of which doesn't always end up with the correct or any location. I'm in WI and my Map's Location Services says i'm in OK! Granted, I don't live in a major city or anything.... Would be nice if Apple could put GPS in the touches, too, but I know that serves the smartphone market better.

Force close the App Store app and reset the iPad. No data will be lost when you reset the device.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Purchasing iPod Touch upgrade (maps, mail, etc...) with 1.1.4 firmware

    Hello,
I recently restored my iPod Touch which was in 1.1.1 firmware from iTunes. iTunes automatically upgraded it to 1.1.4.
Now, I would like to purchase the software upgrade with maps, mail, etc...
But I can't see any button on the iTunes iPod main screen... What am I missing?
    Thanks!
    Raphael

Right now that is not an option. All links to it are gone. See:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=271872604&s=14 3441
    That worked before.
I would think it might be a good time to wait just a while. Until the 2.0 Upgrade is released in "July". Without speculating on a date, I will say the iPhone3G is set to be released on the 11th.
Waiting stinks, but who knows? You may get lucky on this one.

  • Mobile Maps Europe met Ipod touch 4G

    Goedemiddag,
Mobile Maps Europa GPS Navigatie, v8.2, Ontwikkelaar: Sygic (4+) .
Graag een oplossing voor dit probleem.
    Met vriendelijke groet, Davey Hajema
