  • Ipod touch disabled need help ASAP!!

Ok so I have a problem..I have an ipod touch that I am helping a friend with... the passcode has been disabled and it will not let me put in the passcode on the ipod or on itunes. Everything I have read says to restore the ipod but the problem is I am not on the original computer that the ipod was synced to and I don't want to loose all the music on the ipod already..is there any way to enable the ipod without loosing all the data??

Nope.  You will have to restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod since you do not have the original computer.  To restore it need to place the iPd in recovery mode to get around the unknown passcode.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • IPod Touch 2G need help to restore

Ok so I have an itouch 2g that I am having a lot of problems. My little sister got her hands on it and I have no idea what she did but it seems the firmware on the ipod got corrupted and I have been pulling my hair out trying to get this thing to restore.
The ipod will not turn on or charge by plugging into the usb port on any computer, I have tried 2 laptops and a desktop. The ipod WILL charge using a wall charger but when I plug it in the ipod gets stuck in a loop, it turns on with the apple logo and gets stuck there with no progress bar then restarts and keeps doing that over and over. If I plug it into the wall charger while holding the home key it brings me to the plug into itunes logo screen but it is plugged into the wall and as soon as I disconnect it it shuts off.
When I plug it into the computer and try to turn it on by holding the power/sleep and home button windows says unknown or unrecognized device and is unable to get it to connect. I can get it into DFU mode by holdin the power/sleep button and home key for 10 seconds then just the home key for 10 seconds, the screen remains black but windows pops up saying it has found a DFU ipod and itunes recognizes the ipod saying it has found an ipod in restore mode and to use it I have to restore it. When I try to restore the ipod using itunes it downloads the approprate firmware without a problem, verifies it with apple, and extracts it. The next step though is itunes says "preparing ipod for restore" and at this time windows makes the sound of the usb device being disconnected which I can confirm with device manager. Apparently itunes it resetting the ipod out of DFU mode to perform the restore but since windows will not recognized the ipod unless it is in DFU mode, the restore process fails here because the ipod never reconnects to the computer. While it is waiting for the ipod to reconnect I have even tried putting the ipod back into DFU mode to see if I can help it reset the ipod but all itunes does is disconnect it again.
Is there any way to completely restore the firmware through the DFU mode connection without itunes having to restart the ipod which will not work? Is there some kind of tool that can force the firmware onto the harddrive of the ipod through the DFU mode connection? I know the ipod functions and its not a hardware issue because like I said DFU mode works, itunes recognizes it as an ipod in recovery mode when loaded in DFU, when plugged into a power source the ipod turns on and requests to be plugged into itunes which makes it appear to me that the firmware got corrupted and this is why it cannot identify itself to windows to connect normally via USB and therefore charge etc.
So the problem long story short is that I can get the ipod into DFU mode to restore firmware but for some reason itunes won't load the firmware through DFU and attempts to restart the ipod into a different mode but windows won't recognize it unless it is in DFU so the restore process fails.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I won't throw this ipod out because it seems to be a software issue not hardware related.

    Welcome to the discussions keithwired.
It looks like [Unbricking Your iPod Touch with the Manual DFU Procedure|http://thesmithfam.org/blog/2008/03/19/unbricking-your-ipod-touch-wit h-the-manual-dfu-procedure> should not be giving you the problem you describe. I'm not sure if you followed this same procedure or not.
Perhaps trying it on another computer or connected to a different USB port would help. No hubs - straight connection. It's best if you remove all USB devices except mouse and keyboard, reboot, and then connect.
Also, be sure you have disabled any anti-virus software.
    Hope this helps.

My iPod touch 4 generation 32gb sometimes is really slow. When ever my iPod is being slow and I get on an app the app will shut down. My lock botton is broken and I use the accesery botton to lock it. That being said I can't power down my iPod. I need help, I don't know what to do! Could you tell me how I can power down my iPod or how I can fix the slowness and the shutting down of the apps.

    - Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.
    - Next, reset the iPod
To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your wifi and bluetooth preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices
    Then you can try:
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

To activate you have to enter the ID and password last used for Settings>iCloud. In most cases the Apple ID is used for Settings>iCloud but not always.

  • Does An Ipod Touch 5g need protection from scratches?

Hi there, I've recently been pondering whether my ipod touch 5g needs a screen protector. I like using the ipod with just a silicone case over it, so basically it's just a black soft gel back.  There is no front facing protection, so I am using the screen with my bare hands.  Is this alright?  I'm NOT worried about dropping it, all I'm concerned about is scratching the screen primarily with my fingernails. I try to cut them as low as possible all the time, but is it still possible for the ipod to get scratches on it while using it?  How resiliant is the glass?  Scratch proof? Anyone have their own experiences with fingernail scratching on ipod touch 5g? Love to get some help.  Thanks for all answers.

Unless you get grit on our fingers no screen protector is needed. It is grit, not fingernails that scratch the screen. I do not use a screen protector on any of my devices.

I can't find the imessages app on my ipod touch. can u help please?

    - Try using the Spotlight search. It is likely you just can't find it.
    - Next try a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Last, restore the iPod.

  • What the iPod touch really needs.

So I may have missed a thread on this... But does it not seem logical that what the the iPod touch really needs bluetooth. I could care less about using bluetooth for audio, synking or anything else but 1 thing...
Given that the iPhone is locked into AT&T wouldn't a bluetooth enabled pone allow you to use bluetooth's networking abilities to share you cell phones data plan? Granted some wireless providers (cough*verizon*cough) cripple there phones and disable this feature. but it would be at least an option to some people.

The ipod touch does not support bluetooth nor does it have bluetooth built into the device. THere are bluetooth adapters that you might use for like headphones but nothing like data transfer and what you mention. If this is a feature you would like on a future ipod then leave your feedback at the link below.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html
THese forums are for technical questions regarding the ipod touch and not for speculation or rumors. You should go elsewhere for such a thing. If your interested in how bluetooth works on the iphone then it is best to post your question about that product in the right forum linked below.

    Not Charge
    - See:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPOD Touch /Phone needs lacks the following serious features :

ipod touch needs serious software revamp and since the first ipod none of those
features included and its a shame that such an amazing product and design lacks
    of serious software.
IPOD TOUCH / PHONE needs the following features through a software/firmware
    upgrade.
+ create and name playlists through ipod
    + search function
+ display the full info of a song in the display /screen (ie. song artist,
    album,etc)
+ display all songs of an artist when the artist menu tab is clicked when a song
splays and not only from the current album
    + rename and delete songs
I don't understand why ipod the best mp3 player, lacks so serious features and I
like to to include the above features in a future upgrade.
If you agree with me and you like those features as well to b included in a
feature upgrade please show your support.

well you can create a playlist on the ipod

I HAVE 2 HARD DRIVES ON MY LAPTOP. MY PHOTOS ARE ON 1 HARD DRIVE & MY ITUNES IS ON ANOTHER HARD DRIVE. I AM HAVING TROUBLE SYNCING THE PHOTOS FROM THE SEPERATE HARD DRIVE ONTO MY IPOD TOUCH. ANY HELP?

There is a whole lot of bad going on there.
There are problems both drive errors and USB errors.  I don't believe it.
I have a hunch the drive is starving for power.
USB devices are supposed to function all the way down to 4.25V.  Not all do.
USB ports are supposed to be able to deliver 4.25V at the end of the cable at 500mA.  Not all do.
USB 2.0 devices are not supposed to draw more than 100mA unless they negotiate for more.  Some violate that.
USB 2.0 devices are never supposed to draw more than 500mA. Some violate that.  Especially disk drives.
My guess is that your drive is drawing excess current and the voltage drop through the port and cable are dropping you below 4.25; or at least below the voltage that your drive goes "Tango Uniform"[1].   Does your drive have the option for external power?  If so try it.  Following up on wtx's comment;  USB 3.0 is capable of delivering more power.   Also, some drives have used a cable that violates just about every aspect of the USB specification:  A "Y" cable that plugs into two host ports to provide more power to the guest.  I despise this solution with every fiber of my electrical engineering existence; never-the-less, you might try one.
