Ipod touch no longer charges in car after software upgrade. Wants app?

I have an Ipod touch 4th generation. It was working beautifully connected to the USB port in my 2012 Honda CRV until I upgraded the software to 5.1.1. Now it says that I need an App but it won't tell me what App and it no longer charges through the car's USB. It still plays through the car stereo but I have to disconnect it from the USB to control it.

You can try the standard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem then the iOS broke full compatibility. you have to then wait for either Apple to fix the problem in an iOS update or for Honda to fix it via a firmware update/

After doing the most recent software upgrade on my ipod touch, the device is no longer recognised when i cnnect it to my car stereo (infinity). How can i uninstall the last upgrade??

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, sometime the iOS update breaks compatibility and yo have to wait for either an iOS update or a firmware update for your car system.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod touch no longer charges with USB nor does it output sound through the connector

2 problems after the latest iOS update:
    (1) my 3rd generation iPod Touch no longer changes when connected to the computer through the USB connection.  It says that the device is not supported for connection through USB.  My computer is running Snow Leopard and all software is up to date.
    (2) it also does not output sound through my clock radio nor through the built-in ipod connection in my MINI.
This all worked great until the latest iOS update.  Something broke in the latest update.

  • IPod Touch no longer works with car stereo after 4.0 update

I updated my iPod to 4.0 a couple of days ago, and my Hyundai Santa Fe's built-in iPod interface no longer recognizes my iPod's music - it just says "empty iPod" or something of that nature. Is anyone else having this problem?? What should I do?

Add me to the list. Brand blankety-new ipod touch that after 4.0.2 wouldn't work with the Subaru-factory-installed ipod connector in my '08 STI. The shut-it-off-and-restart-in-the-car method at least made it able to play music again but still no recharging.
To add insult to injury I did the have-an-Apple-GENIUS call me thing. The first thing was that they called me....for about 1/4 of a second. The phone blipped for less than a ring and then I got an email saying, "Oh, we TRIED to reach you and you weren't there. Why don't you call us?". So I called and was immediately put on hold. When one of the geniuses finally picked up, I described the issue with great patience and his insightful answer was, "let me put you on hold while I talk to my supervisor." So I sat on hold for five minutes until...they just hung up...no answer, no, "gee we think you're SOL"....just "click". Thanks a boatload Mr. Jobs.

  • 3Gs no longer charges in car after updating to iOS 5

I got a weird problem after updating to iOS 5. In addition to the battery drain, my 3GS will no longer charge via a 12 volt car adaptor. I know the cable and the adaptor work because my son's iPod and wife's iPhone 3G both charge from them. The cable also has no problems charging my phone when it's plugged into the computer or a wall socket.
The battery drain is a bummer, but combined with no longer being able to charge in the car makes this a killer combination.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.

  • New ipod touch will not charge with car stereo anymore

I recently got an iPod Touch and when I plug it in to my car stereo it says that "charging is not supported with this accessory". I'm assuming it has something to do with the fact that the new IPT do not charge with firewire.
I'm having the same problem with a USB 2.0 extension cord I bought. this one I don't understand because it is supposed to be USB and not firewire. I've tried plugging that in to the wall with a usb wall charger but I get the same thing, so it's not an issue of there not being enough power.
As far as my car is concerned, the cable has a regular ipod connection. I look up firewire to USB converters but they all have a female firewire (small odd shaped holes) connection, so I couldn't plug my cable in to it. Does anyone have any idea on what I could do to fix this situation so that my ipod will charge while it is plugged in?

You have identified a problem that has been around since the iPod touch came out (also effects the latest generation nanos). Go to your local big box store and by yourself a new charger that is compatible with the touch.

  • Ipod touch no longer working in car?

    Hi there,
Both my ipod touch and nano are no longer working in the car. We have a USB port etc and have not had any issues until now. We just plugged it in, pressed CD/AUX and that was it. Now it just says "Unsupported" on the screen. Any ideas?

    snoakes wrote:
That's likely it but I don't understand what that means.
    It means that either:
    (a) Your stereo never did fully comply with Apple's communication protocol. The only reason it worked before was because Apple previously did not use something in the defined protocol until now. Now that they are, your stereo no longer communicates with the iPod. Apple is still complying with their protocol, but your stereo can no longer capitalize in a prior limitation in the iPod OS.
    OR
    (b) Apple either did not define the protocol completely (or accurately), or they muffed the code that would ensure compliance to their own defined protocol.

Will it ever work again? Any way around this. Seems kinda dumb to update something and then suddenly it no longer works with the stuff I have (ie a car!!)
You can see if there is a firmware update for your stereo, or you can wait and hope for a change in the iPod OS someday that will restore functionality. You might also be able to step down a revision in your iPod OS.

  • IPod Touch no longer working with car Head Unit since update

Hi there, I have a problem with using my iPod Touch with my car's head unit.
I've been using my iPod Touch with the Alpine IDA X001 Head unit fitted in my car for the last 3 months without any problems, however I installed the latest software update for the Touch (v4.0) and now the head unit connects and then says no USB device. At first I thought it was the cable as the cable supplied with the head unit is pretty fragile, so I've replaced it with a new one but it still doesn't work.
I've tested with my iPod Nano and it works perfectly so its not a problem with the head unit or lead (I plugged the Touch in and it didn't work, plugged the Nano in and worked perfectly and then plugged the Touch in and didn't work).
Can anyone help or is it gonna be a case of Restoring the iPod Touch back to factory settings ????

I was also having this problem with my Kenwood car stereo. I went into the store and they did a complete restore. I didn't think it worked but the next time I plugged it into my usb to connect with my car stereo it worked. So you might try doing a restore.

  • IPod touch 4 via BMW USB buggy after ios6 upgrade

My iPod touch 4 has less functionality through the BMW connector than it had before I upgraded the iPod from io5 to ios6.  In particular, there are 3 things that are wrong.
First, everytime that I plug it in, it always wants to play the first song in the ipod (when sorted by title).  Previous to this, the iPod was happy to keep playing whatever I happened to be listening to, even if it wasn't an audio file.  For instance, sometimes I would use the Audible app for the iPod.  And if I was in the middle of listening to a book, I could just plug in the iPod into my car and go on my merry way.  Now it always goes to the first song as soon as I turn it on.  It seems to ignore whatever I was listening to when I plugged it in.  I cannot listen through the Audible app.  The only workaround is the download the books from Audible and put them in a playlist.
Second, when I click on one of the numbered buttons on the radio (the one that is supposed to take me to the playlist corresponding to BMW # where # is the number I pressed) it always wants to play the first track in the play list, and not the last track that I had been playing.
Third.  When I try to advance to the next track, the stereo display says that I have moved to the next track (e.g., the display goes from 1-1 to 1-2) but the iPod continues to play the track it is on.  The advance does not work.  The up-arrow button on the steering wheel that is supposed to take you to the next track advances the stereo display, but not the track that the iPod is playing.  Previous to the update, I could skip tracks using the advance buttons.  The only workaround I have found for this it to edit the playlist prior to pluging in my iPod so that the file I want is the first file in one of my BMW playlists.  Otherwise I would have to listen to the all the files that come before the one I want to listen to.  This is silly.
I have a 2003 BMW with a 30 pin connector through the glove box that is supposed to let me listen to my ipod.  I have a iPod touch, 4th generation.  The connector is from around 2005.  It worked great with my first generation iPod touch, and with every version of the ios until ios6.

I did consider replacing the car.  But it seemed cheaper to replace the ipod.
The thing that did help was to erase all playlists from my iPod that did not start with BMW.  Once I did that, the old behavior was restored, and I've been happier since.

  • IPod Touch 2G Home button not working after OS4 upgrade

    Hi there,
hope someone can help. Upgraded an iPod Touch 2G to OS4.1 and teh home button will not work now normally, but will work if its attached to a PC and iTunes. Anyone seen this before and how to fix it?
    Cheers,

    HI there,
thanks for the reply. Tried both of what you suggested, also tried the home button thing only working while plugged in with two computers and two different leads which is why I suspect is an operating system thing.
I may try downgrading the operating system next, just have to find a copy of an old one somewhere.
    Cheers,
