Ipod touch not detected by my computer

My Windows XP SP3 is not able to detect iPod Touch 4G. Please help. iTunes displays it fine.

You're welcome.
It isn't copy and paste. It is manually dragging music and videos from your iTunes library to your iPod Touch under Devices in the iTunes source list. To remove music and video from the iPod Touch, open the iPod Touch under Devices in the iTunes source list to select and delete music and video from the iPod Touch.
Tfe downside with this is if you restore the iPod Touch with iTunes if wanted or needed. With Sync Movies, TV Shows, Music, and 3rd party apps selected and used instead, your selections under the various tabs for your iPod Touch sync preferences with iTunes will be selected automatically when restoring with iTunes rom the iPod Touch backup. With manually managing music and videos, you must remember which music and videos were previously transferred to your iPod Touch and manually drag all back to your iPod Touch. And it isn't possible to manually manage 3rd party apps, which must be synced, so you are syncing anyway.
With sync music selected, after downloading a song with your iPod Touch, the song will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPod Touch with iTunes after doing so.
The same applies with movies if you download a movie direct with your iPod Touch, and with 3rd party apps with Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPod Touch sync preferences with iTunes.
You are much better off all the way around by syncing instead.

  • IPod Touch not detected by "My computer" and Spotify

    Hello!
My iPod Touch 4th generation, wich is completely new, is not detected in "My Computer" or Spotify, only in iTunes. I have tried with updates and reboots, but nothing seems to work.
When troubleshooting in iTunes, it finds nothing wrong.
The iPod works perfectly fine with iTunes.
I have Windows XP and USB 2.0.
All help is appreciated! Thank you

I have tried with an other PC:
Before I installed iTunes on PC two, the iPod was recognized as a camera in "My computer".
After installing iTunes on PC two, it worked completely fine with iTunes, but again failed to be recognized in "My computer".

  • IPod Touch, not detected in Windows or iTunes...

First of all, hello to everyone...
i want to say that i read a lot EVERYWHERE about my issue and still i couldnt find a solution...
the problem is easy, i have a 3rd gen ipod touch, OS 4.2.1 now fully working... but, it's not detected in windows or itunes, as simple as that, and as u all have read in lots of other posts...
my ipod is now working because i took it to an apple store and they charged it in a MAC and they had no problem at all. the MAC detected the ipod, with all its content and my ipod's name...
but when i took it home -this has been hapenning since maybe... 5 MONTHS!-, i plug it in my PC and nothing happens...
ok, first of all, my spec... win vista home premium 64 bits, last version of itunes...
i tried ALL the solutions provided in APPLE official support page, and nothing happens... that means:
1- completely uninstall itunes and then reinstalling it... i ALSO FORMATED my entire hard drive twice!!!!
2- tried all USB ports and even an entirely different PC and nothing happened
3- bought 3 different IPOD to USB cables and nothing happened
4- tried setting ipod to restore, that way itunes SOMETIMES detected the ipod but i coulnt restore because of different error codes, so i had to take it several times to apple store to "unblock" it...
the only way it works -detection and charge- is with MAC computers or dock systems such as an iHome my gf has thats the way im charging it now, but otherwise it wont work...
i would really appreciate any help, since idont know what else to do!!
    thx in advance!!

HI I was having some other problems getting my itouch to restore because it was not being recognized in itunes and kept erroring out. Now it has finally restored after I updated all kinds of drivers and removed and reinstalled itunes and apple software a million times,(yes this is all after installing itunes 8.1 and paying for an itouch upgrade as well) Now itunes says it cannot do anything with the ipod because it is getting an invalid response from the device. So it won't put anything back on my itouch or even show that I have plugged it in. I emailed tech support, If I find anything out I'll let you know, will you do the same for me?

  • Brand new iPod Touch - not recognized by my computer or iTunes

I just purchased an iPod Touch today and it isn't showing up in My Computer or iTunes. My USB port is working because it recognizes other devises. I checked my USB port in Device Manager and it says Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller. I even uninstalled iTunes and installed it again. I'm just sick ... I have read everything I can find that might work, but nothing does.
If anyone has a suggestion for me, I would really appreciate it.
    Martha

Thanks, Alex. The link you gave me says that there should be a Apple device listed with my USB's and it is not. I did find the driver USBAAPL.SYS in the Windows\System32 folder\drivers. Should it be somewhere else to work??? The Mobile Device Service is there and is started. I am completely iPod ignorant, but I did have a shuffle sometime back that worked just fine.
I appreciate your help. If you have any other advice, I would appreciate it.

  • IPod touch not being rcognized by computer or iTunes anymore.

My iPod touch is not being recognized by my computer or iTunes anymore. I can't add new music to it and in order to charge it I have to hook it up to a different computer, other computers do recognize it, just not mine. I have tried different cables (They're not damaged either), it's not my USB ports (I have 3 USB ports, I have tried all of them, still wont recognize the iPod) because they recognize other devices and I am able to use them just fine. The port on my iPod is not damaged. HELP! I've never had an issue like this and I really don't want to have to buy a new iPod!

Have you looked at this article:

The later would apply if An exclamation point appears next to the device's entry in Device Manager

  • Ipod nano Not detected in my computer or itunes

Okay, first off, I have tried several different things to correct this issue, and NOTHING has become remotely helpful.
My computer doesn't even make the little "ding" sound that I get with all my other usb devices upon plug in. The ipod will be charging and nothing else, nothing in device manager, my computer, itunes and wherever else it is at. The Ipod was given to my by a friend who moved away a few weeks ago, and I finally got the charger yesterday. The ipod can play songs and what-have-you but will not connect to the computer in anyway but to charge. Resetting does NOT work, I repeat, it does NOT work.
I cannot restore it as it doesn't even get detected by anything on the computer. The cord is NEW so it is not that, all the usb ports WORK so it couldn't be that, and it is not my computer as I tried on a laptop and another desktop. I refuse to send it in for repairs as I do not wish to spend money on something I haven't even got to use, and would be extremely upset to get it sent back saying it's faulty. :/
Oh and itunes is the latest version.
READ THE WHOLE THING BEFORE OFFERING HELP.
I will not read anything mentioning resetting, ports, computers, cable and all the stuff I have ALREADY tried.

How can I give a detailed description of everything
Well, you wrote you would not read any posts if you have already tried something so anyone responding would need to know exactly what you have tried.
Have you restarted the *iPod Service*?
    "1- Quit iTunes.
2 - Right click on My Computer/Computer and click Manage. If Windows requires your permission to continue, click Continue.
3 - Click the plus symbol to the left of Services and Applications.
4 - Select Services listed under Services and Applications.
5 - Double click iPod Service in the right hand panel.
6 - Click the Stop button under the General tab and leave the iPod Service Properties window open.
7 - Connect your iPod and wait until it is visible in My Computer/Computer.
8 - Click the Start button in the iPod Service Properties window.
    9 - Open iTunes."
Check your registry keys -> A computer that is running Windows XP cannot detect a USB thumb drive, an Apple iPod, or an external hard disk drive
The ipod is obviously on a working cable if it can charge form the usb.
    Not necessarily.
A USB cable has 4 pins, 2 for power and 2 for communications/data transfer.
Don't even need the 2 comm lines for it to charge.
they will force me to pay too much for a new one.
They won't "force" you to do anything.

  • IPod Touch not recognized by mac computer

I have just upgraded my os to Leopard and now when I plug in my iPod touch, iTunes does not open, and when I open it, it does not show my iPod.
Can someone tell me how to get my computer to see my ipod.

have had Leopard ever since it came out, this is a problem since the iLife update 2 days ago, iTunes will not recognize my iPod Touch, is reinstalling iTunes the only way to do this? I have been having problems with Mail, too. But, I guess that is a problem for another forum. I think there have been quite a few nifty, but tricky additions to iLife in the last update.

  • Ipod touch not recognized by older computer.

Okay, I have an old G4 mac with a limit of 10.4.11 to its operating system. I have an ipod touch which worked just fine with version 9 of Itunes. The ipod touch was wonky so I had the battery replaced and the OS reset. The problem is that they reset it to a level unrecognized by my itunes. Can I reset my ipod to an earlier version so my computer can recognize it again? I cannot use itunes version 10 because my computer is not intel based. Any answer that says I need to upgrade my computer will be ignored.

Downgrading the iPOS is not supported by Apple.  If your G4 is 878 MHz or greater you can upgrade to OSX 10.5.  YOu can find in on eBay or a similar place,  Just make sure it is a black retail disk.  Th disks that come with the Macs will only work on the Macs there were supplied with.  You can also order ti from Apple via phone. It is not listed in their on-ine store, Apple's price is $129.
