IPod touch not recognised by itunes. have tried fix suggested in FAQs

Hi Guys,
I have a 32gb iPod touch, which recently had been running a bit slowly. As a solution to this i updated with the newest sowftware, and cleared all my apps. Still slow, so i decided to do a system reset from the settings function. This was fine but since then my ipod has not switched on, it merely switches on to the apple logo, and goes back off again. When i hook it to a computer, itunes does not recognise that it is connected and i cant do a system restore. I have tried the 'hold home and connect to cable' trick but with no success. Is this a problem that you have heard of before?ie is there a quick solution, or will it need some parts/software updated by apple?

Help please, from iPod Touch experts?
(Sorry Darraghjoneill, not an answer but extra questions.)
I've an 8Gb iPod Touch which was working fine until around iTunes9. Now it is not recognised in iTunes. I've been through all of the support docs and suggestions covering deinstalling and reinstalling iTunes (including iTunes8), AMDS, USB Drivers, etc. I've an iPod Nano which works fine with the same USB cable in the same USB slot and a 10Gb Classic that works fine through Firewire.
When connecting the iPod Touch it shows the "Connect to iTunes" graphic and does manage to start iTunes but then I get the "iTunes could not ID this iPhone properly, disconnect and reconnect". I do that and then get the "Unknown Error 0xE8000065" problem with the added complication that, whenver this appears it messes up Firefox so no new pages can be loaded and the only fix is to Reboot my whole PC. I also get this Firefox problem when stopping/starting/restarting AMDS.
Stupidly, I thought resetting the iPod Touch to factory defaults might have helped but it didn't so now I have a very shiny brick.
Any practical suggestions?

  • Ipod touch not recognised by Itunes and will not slide to unlock.

    Hi,
I got my Ipod touch 32GB 3rd gen for christmas last year, my battery ran flat some time last week. When i plugged it into my computer via USB to charge, it charged for a few minutes then stoped. When i looked and tryed to unlock the Ipod, it will not slide to unlock, same with the slide to power off, I have pushed both home and power botton to reset; both plugged into compter and not however after the reset it still will not unlock. when pluged into itunes i get a message saying it needs a full factory settings restore, i start that process, however i am shown an error message which reads "the Ipod software update server could not be contacted. An unknown error occured (1612)".
Sorry about the long post, can anyone help, has this sort of thing happened with anyone else before?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks Alot.

  • IPod Touch not recognised by ITunes but my iPhone 4 works fine.

I am currently not able to sync my ipod touch as it is not seen by iTunes when I connect it.
I am using Windows 7 and the latest version of iTunes and have followed each of the steps listed at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
    but still can't sync.
I have listed several key bits of information which I hope someone can explain.
    1. My iPhone 4 sync's fine - same user account under windows, same usb cable.
    2. When i plug in the ipod touch it starts to charge and iTunes appears to hang. e.g hovering over the file menu doesn't highlight the options. If I wait roughly 3 mintues iTunes starts responding again (file menu's are activated) but still doesn't recognise the ipod touch.
    3. If I do this over and over again I 'sometimes' get iTunes to recognise the device but it presents the 'Restore from backup or restore to factory settings'. If I select restore from backup it then informs me the backup is corrupt. The randomness of getting to this stage has no consistent steps and i've been unable to get to this point over the past 3 days.
    4. I recently bought a movie from iTunes and get the message 'The movie could not be played' and since getting this message i've been unable to get iTunes to see the device.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

I've finally managed to get the device recognised my Windows. The solution was to take my ipod touch round to my friends house who own's an apple mac. Plugged into the Mac itunes instantly see's the device and everything is back to normal.
I can know get my Windows 7 machine to see the device in iTunes. The strange behaviour I see on Windows 7 box is, on plugging in the device iTunes hangs if I then unplug the device and reattach it (repeat this several times) eventually iTunes doesn't hang and sees the device.
Not at elegant solution granted but hopefully this may help someone out. This is obviously a software bug (is it that I am also syncing my iPhone?) as I've ruled out all the hardware involved.

  • IPOD TOUCH NOT RECOGNISED BY ITUNES

i have tried everything the site says about reinstalling etc...
    any suggestions?

I'm having this same issue for a few days now too. I can connect it to charge but Itunes freezes up within seconds and doesn't recognize my Itouch. I have tried multiple USB ports on the computer and none of them work. I have two music libraries on my computer and neither work or recognize the Itouch.

  • IPod Touch not recognised by iTunes and stuck in Recovery

iPod Touch 1st Gen was working fine up until yesterday. Wanted to blank it so used "Restore" on iTunes. Didn't restore properly and is now stuck in Recovery mode.
Reinstalled iTunes and Apple Mobile Device 3 times. No luck at all. Still stuck in Recovery and effectively bricked!

  • Ipod not recognised by ITunes - have tried everything

    Hi all
My Ipod was running smoothly with Windows until a few weeks back. I've gone through ALL of the procedures suggested (that I could find anyway) and none have worked. I tried to completely reset the IPod as all else has failed and I can't even do that. I try to open the updater and it just freezed whenever the Ipod is connected (so obviously I've not been able to try updating it either). I have the newest version of updater and itunes. Windows recognises the Ipod as a Removable Drive F and freezes if I try to open it. Sometimes I get a message saying it's not formatted but Windows won't format it anyway if I try. Any help??

Ugh. I just got my iPod today. Im really happy, but insanely mad right now.
Recently in the past I got a few USB Flashdrives for my computer. I tried all of them, and every time I installed the USB Mass Storage Device, it gave some kind of warning about how it did not have a Windows Logo, and it wasnt approved to use. It gave me the choice to either continue the installation and possibly destabilize my computer, or Stop the Installation. I continued and didnt think anything of it, and wouldnt you know it, all of my programs were frozen. So I uninstalled it, and now everything works fine.
Now Im having similar problems with my iPod. When I go to install my software for iTunes and my iPod it installs all of it until it gets to the "Publishing" part and then warns me that it isnt approved by Microsoft, and it doesnt have the logo. It says it could severely harm my system etc. I continued anyways, and guess what? Everything is frozen. So I uninstalled it, and took a different route. I stopped the installation the next time, but it continued anyway. I got iTunes up and running, but when I plug my iPod in the USB port it wont even show up in iTunes, let alone on My Computer...Can someone please help? Ive been working on this for over 4 hours now...Im tired. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Sync problem - earlier today I updated both iTunes and my iPod Touch. Since then, I have tried syncing the two. The iPod Touch claims that there is no music on the iPod, however, when I connect it to my computer it says my full library is on there. At present, I am unable to listen to songs on the iPod when not connected to the computer. What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks for any help!

    - Have you reset your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be to backup your iPod and then restore you iPod from backup via iTunes.

  • Ipod touch not showing in iTunes

    Anyone help?
On an imac with 10.6.1 Mac OS and iTunes 9.1.1
Recently the HDD failed and Apple replaced, but since then ipod touch not recognized in iTunes.
Have followed all the steps in the support document for resetting, rebooting, reinstalling etc. and ipod touch is recognized the first time after following this process, but then after that when I boot up my mac and iTunes a second time, it stops being recognized again. I cannot reinstall iTunes every time I want to sync my ipod touch!!! Anyone else had similar issues and solved?
    Thanks

I am having a similar issue. I have a 1st-generation iPod touch, and a MacBook running Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3) and iTunes 9.1.1. It's a bit old now and the WiFi isn't very good, but my iPod touch still works perfectly, except that it doesn't show up in iTunes, which I discovered yesterday when I tried to sync some new music. I got my iTouch G1 the first week they came out and it worked perfectly with my iBook G4 running Tiger, and also worked perfectly with my new MacBook running Leopard which replaced the iBook when its logic board bit the dust. I recently updated to Snow Leopard (about a month ago now), and now my iTouch doesn't show up in my iTunes sidebar, but a volume shows up in Disk Utility that could only be this iPod and things do happen when I plug in the iPod (the first time I connected it since I added some Snow to my Leopard, iPhoto opened and prompted a download of a screenshot I'd taken with the iPod). I'm mostly writing this right now because the support page pertinent to this issue is down due to some sort of Apple web maintenance and I'm tired of getting the same error message. I actually have everything on my Mac backed up, and when I installed Snow Leopard I just did a basic installation but have been thinking of going back and doing a clean wipe and install and then getting the iTunes and iPhoto libraries et cetera off of my external HD. Would this fix my problem? I figure that since my iPod touch's files and system have been constant throughout this, it must be some issue with Snow Leopard, however before I wipe everything and have to set my system up again from scratch, I would like to know if this problem would be fixed by doing that or if there is some problem inherent in Snow Leopard that needs to be manually fixed.

  • IPOD TOUCH NOT WORKING WITH ITUNES

    I am using:
iPod Touch 16GB 1.1.4 (With $25 Software Upgrade)
    Windows Vista Premium Edition
    iTunes 7.6.2
Whenever I connect my iPod, the device connect sound is made and it shows up in the my computer window, but it will not show up or sync with iTunes.
I HAVE ALREADY TRIED THE FOLLOWING:
    Reseting the computer
    Reseting the iPod
    Using a different USB port
    Using a different cable
Erasing ALL of the iPod's contents (Yes I lost my $25 update as well)
Restarting the "APPLE MOBILE DEVICE SUPPORT" in the "systems" application
...As well as many other things, all with absolutely NO results.
I have tried to manage my ipod through other programs, nothing seems to work. I connected the iPod to a different computer and everything worked fine.
I ASSUME the problem has something to do with the iPod Touch's drivers; for whatever reason they might be corrupted or installed incorrectly, thus preventing the iPod from automatically reinstalling them as well as preventing the possibility of syncing.
My question is, how can I reinstall the drivers without having the iPod touch do it automatically?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

    I fixed the problem myself.
If anyone else has this same problem and is looking to fix it, here is what I did.
I found this on another site:
"Okay well I spent about an hour on the phone with Apple trying to fix this problem. The guy I talked to seemed to have delt with this problem before. He tould me that Apple was getting numerous calls about the iPod touch not connecting with iTunes. So here is the solution that worked for me.
The first thing you must do it uninstall iTunes and Quicktime using the controll pannel, add/remove hardware, on your windows computer. Once you have uninstalled both of thoes programes go ahead and look for anything else that is Apple and uninstall them as well. There should be an Apple updater or driver that is very critical to uninstall, this was the cause of iTunes not recognizing the new iPod Touch. Next make shure you have the very latest update for Windows on your computer, you can check this on Microsofts web page. Finnaly once you are shure you have UNINSTALLED EVERYTHING that says Apple, iTunes, or Quick time restart your computer and MAKE SHURE THAT YOUR IPOD IS NOT CONNECTED TO YOUR COMPUTER. Then download the newest version of iTunes and install it. Once the installation is complete go ahead and connect the iPod Touch and everything should work.
I am not shure if this will work for everyone but in my situation it worked. I hope it helps some of you out there!!"
That worked like a ******* charm. Hope this helps.

I cannot get my iPod Touch to charge. I have tried 3 different connections.
Also, my youngest grandson cannot remember his password. Is there a way to find it?

Not charging is one of the symptoms covered here:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
To recover from a loss screen passcode, connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore the iPod from backup via iTunes on the computer.  If iTunes asks for the unknown passcode, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:
