IPod Touch not recognising internal wi-fi hardware

I used my ipod touch to access the home page of my wireless router (192.168 blah blah) and Safari froze while attempting to load the page. It stayed like that for about 5 minutes until the ipod turned itself off.
When I turned it back on and went into Settings, the Wi-Fi information was greyed out and "No Wi-Fi" was displayed beside it. The option does not respond to tapping, so I am unable to "turn on" the wi-fi or view wi-fi networks.
From what I can gather, it's as if the touch believes it no longer has wi-fi hardware.
Furthermore, since this problem occurred, the touch drains its battery to 'absolutely bone dry' after about a day of being in sleep mode.
I have reset the ipod more than once and also performed the Restore procedure using iTunes, upgrading to v1.1.3. It's back to factory settings, but still displays "No Wi-Fi" in grey.
I fear this is a hardware fault, but I wanted to check here before I took the next step in getting it serviced.
Cheers.

Thanks for the prompt reply. However, I did mention in my original post that I had tried a complete restore without success. The Settings tab that enables you to access wi-fi options is greyed out (i.e. un-tap-able). There is no wi-fi/internet activity in the touch, regardless of where I am. I also tried doing a hard reset (i.e. holding the sleep and home buttons till the apple logo appears) and a couple of software resets.
Not looking promising

  • IPod Touch not recognised on Windows 8 and will not appear as connected in iTunes.

Usually when I plug my iPod Touch (4th Gen) into my laptop (Windows 8) it appears automatically on iTunes for me to sync. However, when I tried to do this today, iTunes did not recognise that a device was connected and this was confirmed after I did a diagnostic test. Windows recognises that an iPod has been plugged in, however where it usually says "Alicia's iPod Touch", it just appears as "Apple iPod" and when I click on it, I cannot access any photos/videos that I have on my iPod. Any help would be very much appreciated if anybody know how I can fix this. Thank you.

  • IPod Touch not recognised by ITunes but my iPhone 4 works fine.

I am currently not able to sync my ipod touch as it is not seen by iTunes when I connect it.
I am using Windows 7 and the latest version of iTunes and have followed each of the steps listed at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
    but still can't sync.
I have listed several key bits of information which I hope someone can explain.
    1. My iPhone 4 sync's fine - same user account under windows, same usb cable.
    2. When i plug in the ipod touch it starts to charge and iTunes appears to hang. e.g hovering over the file menu doesn't highlight the options. If I wait roughly 3 mintues iTunes starts responding again (file menu's are activated) but still doesn't recognise the ipod touch.
    3. If I do this over and over again I 'sometimes' get iTunes to recognise the device but it presents the 'Restore from backup or restore to factory settings'. If I select restore from backup it then informs me the backup is corrupt. The randomness of getting to this stage has no consistent steps and i've been unable to get to this point over the past 3 days.
    4. I recently bought a movie from iTunes and get the message 'The movie could not be played' and since getting this message i've been unable to get iTunes to see the device.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

I've finally managed to get the device recognised my Windows. The solution was to take my ipod touch round to my friends house who own's an apple mac. Plugged into the Mac itunes instantly see's the device and everything is back to normal.
I can know get my Windows 7 machine to see the device in iTunes. The strange behaviour I see on Windows 7 box is, on plugging in the device iTunes hangs if I then unplug the device and reattach it (repeat this several times) eventually iTunes doesn't hang and sees the device.
Not at elegant solution granted but hopefully this may help someone out. This is obviously a software bug (is it that I am also syncing my iPhone?) as I've ruled out all the hardware involved.

  • Ipod touch not recognised by anything!

My daughters Gen 4 Ipod Touch (iOS unknown by me) will now not be recognised by any computer or any itunes. I've tried all of the suggestions on restoring and recovery.
As soon as I plug it in with any cable (yes, I've tried a couple of different ones) the image of the USB cable, an arrow and the itunes logo appears (Recovery Mode??). I've tried the 'Hold the on/off button for 10 seconds' and it switches off. When  I hold the 'Home' button and the 'On/Off' for a restart, the apple logo appears for a split second and immediately changes to the 'Recovery Mode' image again. I've tried this while it was plugged in, unplugged and all sorts of in between. Only an 'Unknown Device' is listed in 'Device Manager'. Itunes doesn't see anything (neither does Windows7)
It looks like it may need a service. Does it seem that way to you?
    Tony

    Try:
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    -Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod touch not recognised in windows or itnes since updating to itunes9

    Hi all,
I upgraded to itunes9 and now my ipod touch (2nd gen 16gb) is not recognised in either windows or itunes.
The ipod still charges via the USB lead so presmably there is nothing wrong there
So far I have tried the following
Uninstalled all itunes, apple stuff, bonjour etc
    reinstalled
still same issue.. stopped and restarted apple mobile.. repaired apple mobile.. etc etc
rebooted a zillion times and spent the last 36 hours tearing my hair out all to no avail, its still not recognised.
At one stage i had a "device found" message, swiftly followed by a "device has malfunctioned" error message and back to square one again.
It's my understandin that I can't ring apple (unless I pay) as I have had the ipod since Jan 2009 so if anyone here could help or has any suggestions I wold really appreciate it.
In the device manager there is nothing ipod related in the Universal Serial Bus section or anwhere else in there, have tried it in every USB port.. it charges from them all.. but nothing else. I'm so frustrated
    Sue.

This is happening to me also. After installing Windows 7-64, the sync with my Ipod freezes after a couple of songs transfers. Tried everything imaginable: Itunes reinstall, execute with compability to VIsta, energy safe mode off to USB ports/hubs, cable change, restore Ipod. I have a Acer Aspire M3641, lastest ITunes version, latest software on Ipod. Please Microsoft, Apple, Intel, whoever, WAKE UP !!! Code 0xE8000065

  • IPod touch not recognised by itunes. have tried fix suggested in FAQs

    Hi Guys,
I have a 32gb iPod touch, which recently had been running a bit slowly. As a solution to this i updated with the newest sowftware, and cleared all my apps. Still slow, so i decided to do a system reset from the settings function. This was fine but since then my ipod has not switched on, it merely switches on to the apple logo, and goes back off again. When i hook it to a computer, itunes does not recognise that it is connected and i cant do a system restore. I have tried the 'hold home and connect to cable' trick but with no success. Is this a problem that you have heard of before?ie is there a quick solution, or will it need some parts/software updated by apple?

Help please, from iPod Touch experts?
(Sorry Darraghjoneill, not an answer but extra questions.)
I've an 8Gb iPod Touch which was working fine until around iTunes9. Now it is not recognised in iTunes. I've been through all of the support docs and suggestions covering deinstalling and reinstalling iTunes (including iTunes8), AMDS, USB Drivers, etc. I've an iPod Nano which works fine with the same USB cable in the same USB slot and a 10Gb Classic that works fine through Firewire.
When connecting the iPod Touch it shows the "Connect to iTunes" graphic and does manage to start iTunes but then I get the "iTunes could not ID this iPhone properly, disconnect and reconnect". I do that and then get the "Unknown Error 0xE8000065" problem with the added complication that, whenver this appears it messes up Firefox so no new pages can be loaded and the only fix is to Reboot my whole PC. I also get this Firefox problem when stopping/starting/restarting AMDS.
Stupidly, I thought resetting the iPod Touch to factory defaults might have helped but it didn't so now I have a very shiny brick.
    Any practical suggestions?

  • IPod Touch not recognised by Windows 8 or iTunes whilst in Recovery mode.

    Hello!
I recently updated my iTunes account and during the update on syncing my iPod touch (5th gen) my iPod put itself in to recovery mode and now both iTunes and my computer (in Windows 8) wont recognise my iPod.
    I've followed the steps here> https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204095
But I've had no success, the main stop I get to is when in Device Manager (where there are two entries under 'Other devices' both entries have a '!' in front of them and are listed as ' Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)')  in Windows when I get to "Install disk" and input-ing the file Apple support suggests, an error message comes up saying that the folder I've selected doesn't contain a compatible software driver for my device.
On plugging in my iPod my computer makes the normal 3 pings and begins to charge with my ipod lighting up and saying to connect to iTunes, but Windows does not recognise it. I've tried my other USB ports, my other USB cable (all genuine Apple Parts) and I have tried another computer (also Windows) that did not recognise my iPod.
I have confirmed that Apple Mobile device is supported in the programs and have restarted it as well.
I've also removed and reinstalled iTunes and removed other 3rd party software (like the software for my mobile) as the article suggested. The only thing I haven't done is fully removed all my Apple Software entirely and then reloading it but I thought before I make this big leap I'd check if there were any other ideas from everyone.
Any ideas? I'm a bit stumped with this as it seemingly happened for no other reason then iTunes updating.
    Thanks

Yes I've got the original USB that the iPod came with and I've tried all 3 of my USB ports and my other USB devices are working with no issue.
I've been through my antiVirus too and the internet firewall, disabling and then retrying, but with no changes.
I think I'm just delaying the inevitable of taking the time to uninstall everything and start again.
    Thanks for the help!

I have an iPod Touch that has been running fine for months on my MacBook.
Recently, it has stopped being recognised when plugged in via either of the USB ports. It doesn't appear on the desktop, nor in disk utility, nor in iTunes.

    - Cable : iPod charges fine on a PC
    - iPod : Have turned off and reset the iPod
    - MacBook : Have powered down and rebooted
    - USB port : Works fine with other USB devices, eg. hard drive
