Ipod touch not seen by Macbook, but ipod classic is. Reloaded itunes but that did nothing

My ipod touch is not recognized at all by my Macbook.  My ipod classic is;  I did reload itunes as described but it did not help. Any thoughts.  Ipod touch has the latest OS, and my Macbook has 10.6.8

  • Ipod touch not seen in Itunes on windows 7

My Ipod touch has stopped working. I had a new laptop with vista that i upgraded to windows 7. I can see the ipod (as disk storage) on my computer but when i plug in to USB it bleeps but does not lauch or itunes or become visible if itunes already loaded. I have gone through all apple stuff for clean uninstall of every thing and i upgraded to latest version itunes. I went apple store..not very helpful..said my ipod syncs with a mac but cant do anything because they think it is windows 7! Any ideas, its driving me nuts.
    Stuart

    Righty-ho.
    Here's the theory.
AMDS (which we need for Touch recognition) installs the usbaapl.sys and netaapl.sys drivers on a PC. As well as in the Program files, files for those drivers go into some other locations on a PC. Usually, when AMDS is uninstalled, those files and folders get uninstalled. (I just confirmed that yesterday on my XP SP3 box.) But it is possible for some of those files and folders to get stuck and not be removed by an uninstall. (Confirmed that yesterday on a different XP SP3 box.)
I've confirmed that the leftover files/folders can cause trouble with AMDS reinstalls (they are the source of some "rolling back installation" messages during AMDS installs). But I reckon they might also plausibly cause some grief in iPod/iPhone recognition contexts too. That's what we're going to follow up on with you, Stu.
    let's start working on that.
First, we'd better try to track down where the little beggars live on a Windows 7 system. We're going to have to do some settings changes on the PC in order to even see them.
From the Start menu, click Open.
In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that:
The "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected
The "Hide extensions for known filetypes" box is unchecked
The "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" box is unchecked
    Click OK.
Now we're going to run a search for usbaapl ... I don't have a Windows 7 box available for reference, but this is how I'd do it in Vista.
I go "Start > Computer" and type usbaapl in the Search box. When it tells me it can't find it, I click Advanced, select the "search hidden, non-indexed and system files (may be slow)" box, and then wait for an eternity until the green progress bar up on the top of the "Computer" window has completely disappeared.
What files and folders with usbaapl in the name do you see show up in your search results, and what are their file locations?
Now repeat the search, this time for netaapl. What files and folders with netaapl in the name do you see show up in your search results, and what are their file locations?

  • IPod Touch not seen by PowerMac G4 running 10.4.11

My iPod shows no acknowledgment of being connected nor does my mac. help please

You won't see an iPod Touch in the Finder (like older iPods), only in iTunes (under devices in the left sidebar). Be sure you are using a USB 2.0 port.
You might need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service. Check out this article:

  • IPod Touch not recognised on MacBook - but fine on PC

I have an iPod Touch that has been running fine for months on my MacBook.
Recently, it has stopped being recognised when plugged in via either of the USB ports. It doesn't appear on the desktop, nor in disk utility, nor in iTunes.
    I have checked:
    - Cable : iPod charges fine on a PC
    - iPod : Have turned off and reset the iPod
    - MacBook : Have powered down and rebooted
    - USB port : Works fine with other USB devices, eg. hard drive
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

If your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or iPod nano (5th generation) is not recognized in iTunes on a Mac, you might need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service. Check out this article, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen will connect to computer and display in iTunes, but will not turn on

I've had my iPod touch 5th gen in a Lifeproof case and was taking some pictures, and lo and behold, the case seal leaked. I got water inside my case and immediately turned my iPod off and placed it in rice. After two weeks of drying in rice in a warm environment, I removed it and decided to try it out again. Much to my chagrin, my iPod would not turn on and could not be placed in recovery mode; I've tried to place it in both recovery and DFU mode, if only for some response, but nothing. It displays no screen image, no error message, nothing. It shows up in iTunes just as normal, with the name, and I can even view the sync menus for the device. However, I cannot access any pictures (my iPod has a passcode that must be entered first, and to enter the passcode I would have to turn the device on, which is so far impossible).
PLEASE HELP. Lifeproof will replace my case but not my device, and I have several weeks of photos, lots of music, and unsynced apps. (I know I should have backed up more recently, but life gets busy and I wasn't anticipating such a problem).

    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic. It could be that the water corroded the contacts so try to clean any corrosion from them.
    - Then charge overnight and try what you did before
    If still does not work:
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs.. They do not fix yours.

  • 5th Gen Ipod Touch not recognised 2 windows pcs and my mac mini, Itune up to date, tried DFU and recovery, returned from apple inspection as working, still no joy, anyone elese had this problem, any ideas?

Since we had the ipod touch since xmas we have had slight problems with charging and connecting to itunes, i sent back to Apple to repair/inspect, they have returned it back as working fine, tried 2 different windows pcs, my mac mini and cannot get the ipod to connect, Windows tries installing drivers only to say it has failed, uninstall try again, go into recovery mode and dfu, nothing seems to work. I have 2 ipads an iphone 4s which all connect faultlessly. Any ideas?

Have you tried another cable? Some iPods were shipped with cable that either did no work initially or shortly failed.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Bring the cable too.

  • MacBook & iPod Touch not syncing iCal & Address Book data

I have been unable to sync iCal & Contact data between my MacBook and iPod Touch for some time. The iPod shows up in my iTunes but when highlighted with the Info tab clicked neither my contacts nor calendars appear in the appropriate boxes so that they may be synced. I receive a message stating that it is unable to sync this data because syncing is not enabled. When I click 'Yes' to enable syncing I get a message stating that syncing can not be enabled on this computer. I then click 'Override' which essentially does nothing. I am not sure what happened to create this problem nor how to fix it. Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Jim,
I found instructions on how to reset SyncServices via Terminal command. After trying it this is the message I received:

Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!
