IPod touch not showing all music

My ipod touch is not showing all of my music in 'songs', which I assumed showed all music on the device. I have about 7 Third Eye Blind songs on here and I can find all of them using the 'search ipod' tool, but only 2 of the songs show up in the music app. This is an example. I have about 1000 mp3's on the device but only about 300 or 400 of them seem to be visible unless i do an OS search for the individual file.
Also, the device is not showing file names correctly. I assume it looks at 'tags' or something for the info. well, this is really annoying. It should show the file name because sometimes i rename files to find them easier.

I think I at least know now why music isn't showing up. It looks like the songs not showing have id3 v1 tags in the file. I'm using mp3tag to batch convert all songs to id3 v2.3.
Nice to know i've gone all this time without hearing a large percentage of my music.
I say either develop better software for detecting ALL mp3 music or get rid of this stupid 'tag' thing altogether. I highly doubt the latter is possible, so..

    Anyone help?
On an imac with 10.6.1 Mac OS and iTunes 9.1.1
Recently the HDD failed and Apple replaced, but since then ipod touch not recognized in iTunes.
Have followed all the steps in the support document for resetting, rebooting, reinstalling etc. and ipod touch is recognized the first time after following this process, but then after that when I boot up my mac and iTunes a second time, it stops being recognized again. I cannot reinstall iTunes every time I want to sync my ipod touch!!! Anyone else had similar issues and solved?
    Thanks

I am having a similar issue. I have a 1st-generation iPod touch, and a MacBook running Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3) and iTunes 9.1.1. It's a bit old now and the WiFi isn't very good, but my iPod touch still works perfectly, except that it doesn't show up in iTunes, which I discovered yesterday when I tried to sync some new music. I got my iTouch G1 the first week they came out and it worked perfectly with my iBook G4 running Tiger, and also worked perfectly with my new MacBook running Leopard which replaced the iBook when its logic board bit the dust. I recently updated to Snow Leopard (about a month ago now), and now my iTouch doesn't show up in my iTunes sidebar, but a volume shows up in Disk Utility that could only be this iPod and things do happen when I plug in the iPod (the first time I connected it since I added some Snow to my Leopard, iPhoto opened and prompted a download of a screenshot I'd taken with the iPod). I'm mostly writing this right now because the support page pertinent to this issue is down due to some sort of Apple web maintenance and I'm tired of getting the same error message. I actually have everything on my Mac backed up, and when I installed Snow Leopard I just did a basic installation but have been thinking of going back and doing a clean wipe and install and then getting the iTunes and iPhoto libraries et cetera off of my external HD. Would this fix my problem? I figure that since my iPod touch's files and system have been constant throughout this, it must be some issue with Snow Leopard, however before I wipe everything and have to set my system up again from scratch, I would like to know if this problem would be fixed by doing that or if there is some problem inherent in Snow Leopard that needs to be manually fixed.

  • Ipod Touch Not Showing as a Device

I just received a new Ipod Touch and am just playing around with it a bit to see what it can do.
When I look at Vista Explorer and check the devices attached to my desktop PC, it is not showing the Ipod attached via one of the USB 2 hubs. I know the computer is seeing the Ipod, because as soon as I plug it in, itunes is activated on the desktop. Shouldn't I see the Ipod as a device attached to the PC?
A second question kind of related to the first. Can I download apps, music, etc., to my PC and then transfer them over to the Ipod, without downloading directly to the Ipod? Reason I'm asking this, is that I'm having a bit of a problem connecting to my password-secured home network. The relation to the first question, is if I can't see the Ipod on the PC can I do such a transfer, or is that all done through itunes.
Thanks in advance for any help to a newbie.

the ipod touch doesn't work in quite the same way other ipods do, it doesn't allow you to see it (or use it) as an external drive (like you would with a USB stick or something else you've plugged into your PC)
the only time the iPod touch will show up in windows explorer is when there are 'Saved Photos' on it. Photos which have been obtained on the iPod touch, either via screenshots (hold the home button and the power button at the same time to get a screenshot), from safari (when browsing the internet, hold your finger on a picture to bring up an option to save it), or from emails. then you will be able to access the ipod in windows explorer in order to access these photos and move them to your PC.
yes, you can download music etc. to your PC first. this is how it was done before they invented wireless! (and actually the wi-fi itunes store is still fairly basic and limited). just go into the itunes store (there should be a link to it on the left hand side of your itunes screen) and download to your heart's (and bank accounts) content.
then you just sync them to your ipod, like presumably you have already done with the music you've put into itunes from your CDs.

Did you buy your iPod Touch from a friend? If so it is very likely that the prior owner had jailbroken the iPod Touch without telling you. Try ensuring that you have the most up-to-date version of iTunes. Next try to plug in your iPod to your computer by way of usb cord. Then open iTunes and check whether your iPod is recognized. If it isn't recognized try navigating to "My Computer" under start and check whether your iPod appears as a removable device. If your iPod Touch is still not present then try putting your iPod Touch in DFU Mode and attempt to restore it.
iOS: Unable to update or restore
Placing your device into recovery mode
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
If all else fails please demand your money back from whoever sold you this iPod Touch.

  • Daughter IPOD Touch 4th lost all music from itunes, Itunes suggested to restore to factory settings. Have done so last few days, all showing 20 hours to restore then times out and starts back to 20 hours again. Will not sync at all. HELP

IPOD TOUCH(4th gen) MUSIC DISPLAY has wiped out all my music. The music I have is all still on ITUNES but will NOT SYNC. When attempted a displayes message appeared- Cannot read contents of IPOD (my IPOD name), go to Summary tab to Restore to factory settings. When I click OK it takes me to a CLICK on RESTORE OPTION, which I did. Then it explains that I will lose all APPS, etc.. to restore. I clicked OK again and it shows my IPOD is Downloading Software Update. The only thing being it has done this for 3 days now. It starts by stating will take 20 hours, goes down to 12 or 10 and prompts OUT and when I redo the thing again it starts back up at 20 hours but continually times out. *Also, in case it matters ,the SYNC option on my IPOD in ITUNES is Highlighted as to where I cannot use that option. Everytime I start it back up I get the same message (Cannot read contents of IPOD, go to Summary Tab,etc..) Help.

  • Everytime i try to sync my ipod touch, it removes all music from my iPod. How to fix it?

I got itunes to put my all my songs one time, but it took me a 2 and a half hours of connecting and disconnecting my iPod touch till all 7,000 songs were on it. It only puts on between 50 to 200 songs every time reconnected it. I had to keep re-syncing my iPod and every now and again it would remove all the songs and I'd have to start again. But recently I added some songs to my iTunes on my computer and wanted to see if I could put them on my iPod, and it removed all my songs again. And whatever i did last time that worked, won't work this time.
This seems like a common enough problem that I see people complaining about on these forums, but not enough for common enough for apple to do anything about it. I have had this problem since day one of getting my iPod(about 8 months ago), and I have run diagnostics on it, connected it to different iTunes, and still get the same problem over and over again. And Apple just tells me it is a problem with my computer. Even though I have tried it with multiple computers, completely reset my iPod, and everything else I could think of.
i have seriously tried everything under the sun. it will show up in itunes as having all the music on the ipod touch, then when the sync is complete it removes them again. it will only put 63 songs (if any) on my ipod of 7000 songs, and yes i have plenty of room. its a 64 gig ipod. i haven't been able to use my ipod for anything other than apps for the past six months because of this. i bought the thing so i could listen to my music everywhere, not be frustrated by yet another shortcoming of itunes and  comparability with its own company's devices....
I am the only using one computer and i am the only one that uses this computer.
-I have tried manual syncing it, and dragging the music on, doesnt work.
-tried selecting playlists/artists/etc. under music tab, doesnt work
-tried resetting the ipod, doesnt work
-tried restoring the ipod, doesnt work
    -tried reinstalling itunes, doesnt work
-tired updating all apps, in itunes and on the device, still wont add the music
-tried just syncing music, nothing else, doesnt work
-tried syncing entire music library, doesnt work
-tried logging in and out of my itunes ID, doesnt work.
-tried erasing everything off of it ant and tried syncing with a different computer, doesnt work.
-tried syncing in airplane mode, with just the usb cord that came with my ipod, doesnt work.
-tried just syncing over WiFi, doesnt work.
i'm sure there are other things but this is just what i've tried in the past few weeks.
it would just be nice to use this ipod as more than an expensive paperweight....

    Try here:

  • IPod touch not showing up in finder, under devices.

My iPod doesn't show up on finder. It should come up under devices but all that is there is my mac, and firefox. I really need it to be there so please help.

I have the same problem... iTunes is not allowing me to upload music that wasn't purchased explicitly through iTunes. I am trying to transfer my newer iPod Touch to my son so I can use his older iPod Touch. He wants the ability to play games, and I only care about keeping my music library. To complicate matters, I just bought a new Macbook Pro, and hadn't planned on simply migrating from the old one.
Nearly all of the music on my device was loaded through Amazon purchases or ripped CDs, as I don't really care for iTunes all that much. The KB here notes that only iTunes purchases can be uploaded (weak tea, Apple... seriously weak).
Fortunately, I still have my old laptop, so I'll have to use the migration assistant. Yippie...

  • IPod Touch not showing up in iTunes, already read Apple Troubleshooting

My iPod Touch is not showing up in iTunes on my iMac.  I cannot find it from my iMac when I search for it.  I have tried using different USB ports and have restarted the iPod and the computer.  The iPod does not appear to be charging through the computer either since there is no symbol across the battery.  I am able to use the same cable with the wall charger and charge the iPod successfully.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
