IPod Touch not showing up as a camera or removable disc, can't get photos

My iPod Touch 4 is not showing up as a camera device or as a removable disk drive so I cannot pull photos and videos from Camera Roll. I prefer this over email because I don't want compressed versions. The driver in device manager indicates it's up to date. iTunes is able to sync this iPod just fine and if I try this iPod on a different Windows 7 computer it shows up properly. I believe this was working at one point though not 100% sure. Ideas?

Thank you. The hint in this troubleshooting guide to restart the Apple Mobile Device service was a good one. That didn't actually work but it reminded me to try rebooting. Who would have thought that a 20+ year Windows user wouldn't try that first but honestly Windows 7 is so much more stable than any older version that I'm completely broken of that habit and it didn't even occur to me.

    Anyone help?
On an imac with 10.6.1 Mac OS and iTunes 9.1.1
Recently the HDD failed and Apple replaced, but since then ipod touch not recognized in iTunes.
Have followed all the steps in the support document for resetting, rebooting, reinstalling etc. and ipod touch is recognized the first time after following this process, but then after that when I boot up my mac and iTunes a second time, it stops being recognized again. I cannot reinstall iTunes every time I want to sync my ipod touch!!! Anyone else had similar issues and solved?
    Thanks

I am having a similar issue. I have a 1st-generation iPod touch, and a MacBook running Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3) and iTunes 9.1.1. It's a bit old now and the WiFi isn't very good, but my iPod touch still works perfectly, except that it doesn't show up in iTunes, which I discovered yesterday when I tried to sync some new music. I got my iTouch G1 the first week they came out and it worked perfectly with my iBook G4 running Tiger, and also worked perfectly with my new MacBook running Leopard which replaced the iBook when its logic board bit the dust. I recently updated to Snow Leopard (about a month ago now), and now my iTouch doesn't show up in my iTunes sidebar, but a volume shows up in Disk Utility that could only be this iPod and things do happen when I plug in the iPod (the first time I connected it since I added some Snow to my Leopard, iPhoto opened and prompted a download of a screenshot I'd taken with the iPod). I'm mostly writing this right now because the support page pertinent to this issue is down due to some sort of Apple web maintenance and I'm tired of getting the same error message. I actually have everything on my Mac backed up, and when I installed Snow Leopard I just did a basic installation but have been thinking of going back and doing a clean wipe and install and then getting the iTunes and iPhoto libraries et cetera off of my external HD. Would this fix my problem? I figure that since my iPod touch's files and system have been constant throughout this, it must be some issue with Snow Leopard, however before I wipe everything and have to set my system up again from scratch, I would like to know if this problem would be fixed by doing that or if there is some problem inherent in Snow Leopard that needs to be manually fixed.

  • IPod Touch not showing up on an iBook G4

I am trying to get an iPod Touch connected to my sister in laws iBook G4. It is running system 10.5.8 and iTunes 9.0.2. When I connect her iPod iPhoto opens and it looks to sync photos. I have to manually open iTunes but it won't see the iPod. I tried her iPod on my Macs and my Macs see it. I am really at a loss and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Rich

  • Ipod Touch Not Showing as a Device

I just received a new Ipod Touch and am just playing around with it a bit to see what it can do.
When I look at Vista Explorer and check the devices attached to my desktop PC, it is not showing the Ipod attached via one of the USB 2 hubs. I know the computer is seeing the Ipod, because as soon as I plug it in, itunes is activated on the desktop. Shouldn't I see the Ipod as a device attached to the PC?
A second question kind of related to the first. Can I download apps, music, etc., to my PC and then transfer them over to the Ipod, without downloading directly to the Ipod? Reason I'm asking this, is that I'm having a bit of a problem connecting to my password-secured home network. The relation to the first question, is if I can't see the Ipod on the PC can I do such a transfer, or is that all done through itunes.
Thanks in advance for any help to a newbie.
    Stew

the ipod touch doesn't work in quite the same way other ipods do, it doesn't allow you to see it (or use it) as an external drive (like you would with a USB stick or something else you've plugged into your PC)
the only time the iPod touch will show up in windows explorer is when there are 'Saved Photos' on it. Photos which have been obtained on the iPod touch, either via screenshots (hold the home button and the power button at the same time to get a screenshot), from safari (when browsing the internet, hold your finger on a picture to bring up an option to save it), or from emails. then you will be able to access the ipod in windows explorer in order to access these photos and move them to your PC.
yes, you can download music etc. to your PC first. this is how it was done before they invented wireless! (and actually the wi-fi itunes store is still fairly basic and limited). just go into the itunes store (there should be a link to it on the left hand side of your itunes screen) and download to your heart's (and bank accounts) content.
then you just sync them to your ipod, like presumably you have already done with the music you've put into itunes from your CDs.

  • Why wont my ipod touch not show up my compter or itunes?? help, why wont my ipod touch not show up my compter or itunes?? help

ok my ipod touch wont show up on my compter or others or itunes.. i found a programe call cyida and other stuff that i cant delete. please help ihave tryed eraseing my ipod but it was frozen.. plz help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you buy your iPod Touch from a friend? If so it is very likely that the prior owner had jailbroken the iPod Touch without telling you. Try ensuring that you have the most up-to-date version of iTunes. Next try to plug in your iPod to your computer by way of usb cord. Then open iTunes and check whether your iPod is recognized. If it isn't recognized try navigating to "My Computer" under start and check whether your iPod appears as a removable device. If your iPod Touch is still not present then try putting your iPod Touch in DFU Mode and attempt to restore it.
iOS: Unable to update or restore
Placing your device into recovery mode
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
If all else fails please demand your money back from whoever sold you this iPod Touch.

  • Brand new iPod touch not showing in iTunes - HELP!!!

It showed when I first got it home, then I updated to iTunes 10.1, and it wouldn't show. Called Apple, they had me put iTunes in the trash (along with some other things) and reinstall it. It showed again, and everything was fine - until I updated to iTunes 10.1.1, then it was gone again! Called Apple again, they had me check all kinds of things. Then had me reset my iPod touch. It came up with an error, and they said it was a hardware problem, to send it back to them and they would send me a new one. Got the new one today, and guess what? IT DOESN'T SHOW UP IN ITUNES!!! I'm beyond frustrated! I don't want to have to reinstall iTunes every time there is an update. I have yet another call set up with them, but if there are any other suggestions before then, I'm all ears!

  • IPod Touch NOT showing up on iTunes! I've done everything!

My iTunes sometimes freezes, and my iPod Touch (which is new) NEVER shows up on iTunes, maybe it's my external hard-drive? My iPod still doesn't connect with my external plugged out, and it shows up as a digital camera in "My computer". My old Nano shows up on my iTunes and My Computer, the original cable is not the problem, because my iPod touch shows up on other computers, not my desktop though. But anyways I've done a fresh, clean OS re-install, re-installed everything Apple (iTunes, Mobile Support, etc.) it shows up in My Computer, and it shows up in Device Manager under "Portable Devices" when it should be under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers", I have Windows 7 by the way. Thanks a lot in advance!

  • TS4062 iPod Touch not showing content after sync

iTunes says it is transferring over podcasts, but the latest podcasts don't show up on my iTouch.  This just started this past week, and my iTouch is not full.  I saw there was an operating system update yesterday (7.1.1), so I did that, hoping that would help, but no such luck.  iTunes told me it was transferring another podcast over this morning, but still nothing new is showing up in my podcast area on my iTouch.

I am having a similar issue. I have a 1st-generation iPod touch, and a MacBook running Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3) and iTunes 9.1.1. • IPod touch not showing up in iTunes

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit (and 64-bit iTunes). I have done EVERYTHING in the Apple troubleshooting. I reinstalled iTunes twice, restarted my computer and my iPod and have used every USB port on my computer. iPod touch 4th Generation running iOS 5.01 and iTunes is version 10.51 . What's weird is after I plug in my iPod and unlock it iTunes takes priority on the screen (like it takes view, so when I minimize it in unminimizes) but doesn't show anything.
EDIT: I fixed it by specifically uninstalling Apple Mobile Device Support then reinstalling iTunes

I too have been unable to get my Windows XP service pack 3 machine to recognize my ipod touch and it's been driving me crazy for the past couple of days!!(It had been syncing successfully for 7+ months.) I've tried all the solutions mentioned on the Apple site several times including unistalling and reinstalling itunes, trying all my different USB 2.0 ports, powering ipod and pc down and back up again, resetting my ipod and so on. I've unplugged all other usb devices and tried it. I also have a firewire port and it doesn't work there either. (It had previously) I've stopped and started my Apple Mobile Device services and watched as the Apple Mobile Device USB driver activates as soon as I plug my ipod into a USB port. What happens then is that Windows reports that "An iPod has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again." A dozen times later it's still saying the same thing. (For a time Windows thought it was a camera, but somewhere I found how to turn that off.)
What's wierd is that my old ipod and itunes get along fine when I plug that one into the same USB port on my PC. iTunes identifies the old iPod and it syncs perfectly.
Also wierd is if I connect my new ipod touch to my wife's PC, itunes and the ipod touch sync successfully as well.
I've gone so far to reinstall Windows to a version in October, back when my ipod touch was working perfectly but still no luck.
I don't know the fix but as far as I can tell my Windows XP machine is unable to identify the ipod touch but it has no problem identifying my older ipod.
Does anyone have anything they could suggest?

  • Why isn't the movie I bought on my iPod Touch not showing up on iTunes?

I purchased a video while on my iPod Touch one night, but when I got to Sync my iPod, it won't show up in the movies section on iTunes, only on my actual iPod. Is there something that makes it so that purchases on your iPod can't be transfered to iTunes or am I doing something wrong?

Did you try to transfer it by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
It is a purchased video and not a rented video, right?  If you have a 4G iPod rentals can't be transfered to the computer.
