Ipod touch only shows apple

I did the update for my ipod touch and it showed the itunes with the usb. i plugged into itunes and it said it needed to restore it. I waited for the restore and an error came up on my computer. I am running the latest itunes and admin on my computer.....now my ipod only shows an apple with a black screen. I can hold down power and home and get apple to go away and reapear but nothing else...

You can try to put it on Recovery mode then restore it..
Press or Hold the power and home keys 10 seconds.
Screen goes black, now release the power button
Make sure you do not release the Home key until
your iTunes says "We have detected an itouch
in recovery mode."
After this its simple all you
got to do is a simple restore using your iTunes

"Recently Updated" on iPod Touch Only Shows Music, not Podcasts

I have a 'Recently Updated' smart Playlist in iTunes, set for 'Added in the Last Week' and 'Live Update'. The iTunes 'Recently Added' shows music, podcasts and movies, but when sync'ed, the iPod Touch (3rd Gen, 32GB) 'Recently Added' only shows music.
Tried setting 'Media Type' to 'Podcasts' and 'Music' but it results in an empty playlist...
Any ideas?

There are some known quirks with how smart playlists sync to the Touch. In theory the contents (and sort order) should match when you compare the playlist on the Touch vs. your iTunes library, but that's not the case due to a bug in the 3.1.x OS on your Touch.
As a workaround you can try un-checking the Live Updating option, but then that not only disables Live Updating on the Touch it also disables it in iTunes, so you'd have to re-check this option and then un-check it again each time you re-sync.
Another possibility is to define a mixed-logic smart playlist:
Date Added Is In The Last Week
AND
(Media Kind is Music) OR (Media Kind is Podcast)
You can do this as follows:
1- Enter your Date Added criteria
2- Click on the (...) to "indent" the next criteria.
3- Add the criteria "Media Kind Is Music"
4- Click the "+" button to the right of this criteria, then add "Media Kind Is Poscast"
5- Set the top match rule to "All" and set the 2nd match rule (after your Date Added criteria) to "Any".

- Unsync all music and resync
- Delete all music by: go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer

Thanks, but I've checked those articles out already. I drained the battery and finally got the needs charge (battery w/red line + arrow pointing to a charging bolt), I plugged the USB into the laptop and held down the start key +home key until I saw the apple logo. However, it still was not recognized by itunes. It's been plugged in for over an hour now and the screen is cycling apple logo/low battery (battery w/red line)/and black screen.

Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.

It is marked as an audiobook in Options | Media Kind. It is also marked to Remeber Position, but it does not do that. How do I get it to show up under Audiobooks and remember the position? thats tough man, yeah exchanging it is the best option. But why do people always leave a message saying" i'll probably just by an ipod" and it's usually followed by, "even though i don't like apple or ipod" . I mean fine, if u feel like giving up on the zen micro thats fine, i personally don't care if you're going to buy an ipod. for god sakes ipod isn't even the next alternati've mp3 players, theres plenty. Are u just trying to get the creative people saying "oh man we lost another one to ipod" cuz i'm sure they don't lose sleep over u wanting to buy an ipod instead of a zen. *done ranting*

My iPod has music and apps from my apple ID that I downloaded to my iPod via iCloud and some apps that I got free from the store, straight onto my iPod, but my laptop has some music on it aswell, separate from my other library. I want to put the music from my laptop into my iTunes library which I want to use on both computers. Is it possible to do this?

- You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

it does show up im my computer as line 1 " apple ipod" line 2 "portable device"

i have tried reinstalling (following the correct steps apple gave) twice and i have the 64bit and this is 64bit computer
i have newest ver of itunes
i have restarted ipod
battery is full
its plugged right into the computer (its not the cord i tested on another laptop ipods show up fine there)

in itunes all it says is
iTunes could not connect to this iPod.
