Ipod touch only works on externial battery not charger or internial battery

the other day I was using my ipod touch 3 GEN and it went dead so I tried to run it off the charger cable to finish what I was doing.
It would not work on the charger cable, So I tried a second charger cable and no dice.  I have a IPAD that used the same charger cable and the charger cable worked fine on the IPAD .
I then tried to use an external battery I had for the. iIPOD and it came up with the apple symbol and then booted.  The IPOD seems to work fine on the external battery.
Is my battery in the IPOD bad? or what?

Initially as battery got lower the unit would not even operate so replaced the battery my self.  I found that the IPOD Touch (after the battery was replaced) ran as long as the battery charger was connected.  Funny thing when the battery charger was connected it showed full charge but after opening a few apps it showed 15% charge with the battery charger attached.  I removed the battery charger the IPOD touch died.  Then reattached it and the IPOD touch rebooted and showed full charge.  After a few minutes the battery charge shows 15%.
I opened the Touch up again and measured the battery voltage and externally the current that the touch drew and it was charging and after a while the Battery showed full charge.  when the screen showed 100% the voltage was max and when the screen showed 15% the voltage was the about the same on the battery.  I would expect the voltage to be lower if the Touch was at 15%.
The IPOD Touch 3 Gen works fine as long as I have it plugged in When I had it open it up again I measured the battery voltage with the charger attached and it not attached after a full charge and I don't remember there being much difference in the voltage in both cases.
At least after replacing the battery it works when plugged in.
I use the Touch on my breakfast bar plugged in all the time.  I am assuming there is a defect somewhere in the voltage regulator ckt inside the IPOD Touch , very strange.
Got lots of good years out of it, but am saving now for a new 64 GIG unit.

iPod touch is Wi-Fi only, yes. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by games from home Mac, but you can purchase game apps in iTunes and sync them to your iPod.
    Merry Christmas.

    Hi Magstar33,

  • Why does my volume control on my iPod touch only work when i have Earbuds or Headphones or a speaker connected to the headphone jack, and not also when there is nothing in the jack?

I can't adjust the volume of the iPod Touch when it has nothing plugged into the headphones jack, but i can adjust it when i have earbuds or headphones or a speaker ;plugged into the iPod Touch

Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Insert/remove the the headphone plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem.:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem. Could be a bad headphone jack.

  • IPod Touch only connects to home network; not Airport, Starbucks, Panera...

Before I start, I've read the FAQs and have looked through a number of topics already posted.
I seem to have the opposite problem everyone else is having. My iPod Touch connects just fine to my home wireless... It connects and I'm able to browse the internet, download apps, etc without fail.
However, when I was at the airport recently (both St. Louis and Dallas/Ft. Worth), my Touch would "connect" to the wireless there, but I couldn't go on the 'net or get new apps, etc. It was behaving as if I wasn't at a location with wireless access. When I returned home, I went to Starbucks, Panera, McDonald's... several places with free, open, easy-to-connect WiFi (and took my laptop to make sure that their wireless was working), and had the same problems as I did at the airport.
Considering the best part of having wireless on the Touch is that you should be able to access it anywhere with WiFi, it seems kind of "useless" to have it only work at home (I have two computers at home; so it's not like I need to use the Touch for internet there).
Any thoughts? Obviously, the whole "check your router settings" / "reset your router" answers are not going to help me, as I have no control over those, nor can I see them at these places. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having the same problem. My iPod Touch connects to my home network and another secure network for which I enter the network name and password. However I am unable to connect to any free WiFi, even when my laptop can access it with no problem. The signal is apparently strong; I can see all the bars on the upper left, but when trying to connect to Safari or the app store it says that there is no connection.

  • My sons ipod touch stopped working no internet, apps not responding, won't turn off

His ipod stopped working properly last night. Not jailbroken, not dropped etc. I tried restoring it and it still is really slow it is connected to our wifi but wont open the internet. I cant get his apple Id to verify or icloud email account set up. Also when I go to restart the ipod the slide bar to turn off never pops up it just turns black and the apple logo appears ( the ipod wont power off now)
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Generation 32 GB will not charge, sync to iTunes, or turn on

I've had this iPod since about January/February 2010. I've had this issue ever since May 20th, 2012 .When I plug it into an adapter, it shows the very low battery red sign, and when it is plugged in, it shows that it is charging. However, when it reaches the silver apple logo when an iPod turns on, it is stuck on the logo, so it does not turn on. When I plug it into my MacBook Pro, it does not show up under the devices column. Therefore, I am not able to backup or update my data, which is my first priority. I really want to be able to backup my data. I've gone to numerous Apple Support Communites pages and numerous apple support pages, and none have helped me. i've tried to reset my iPod, but I do not want to restore it and go into recovery mode because I do not want to lose my data. The two problems I think that I have is either the battery has died and can no longer charge or the charging dock is somehow broken. I've already used different adapters and different computers to charge it from. I really do not want to buy a new iPod, and if so, I would like to backup my data first. Any suggestions?

If the battery died then you will have to replace the battery and then see if you can get the data off the iPod. Otherwise you will have to try restoring the iPod and lose the data.

Hello skdog I possibly think your ipod touch is black because it has not charged. If your dock is broken it might just mean the dock will be broken and so might be the USB port. You should see an Apple shop nearby and hand it over and see what they can do. I hope this information works!

  • Ipod Touch Battery not charging

Hey, my ipod touch just recently ( within the hour ) needed charging, so i hooked it up to my pc. it showed the charging sign, so i just left it alone. 5 minutes later, i checked it, and it was at the same charge, and in the top right cornor of the screen where it shows the battery sign, it showed it with the little wire icon over it indicating it was at full charge, but the picture on the screen said it was still at 10%. my ipod is not charging. do i need to replace the battery? how can i fix this? ive tried turning it off and back on, but have not yet restored it.

No, im talking, IT WAS CONNNECTED FOR AN HOUR AND DIDNT CHARGE. it turned off while it was on my computer because i tried to restore it and it ran out of power. the ipod would only barely keep a 5-10% charge, enough to communicate with the computer. although, now i have fixed a problem and gotten my ipod charging. i found my MusicPower Duet ipod charger ( just a plug with 2 usb's, for ipods and zune charge ) and it charged the ipod perfectly, but i can not charge the ipod on my computer for somereason.
