IPOD touch OS 3.1.2 can't connect to wifi with hidden SSID

This isn't so much a question, rather than a complaint. It seems like other people have the same issue. I have a Linksys router configured with hidden SSID and encryption. My newly purchased iTouch can't re-connect to it after I cycled the wifi settings (or cycle the power). I have about a dozen other wifi enabled devices, some as old as 5 years, that have no problem reconnecting to the hidden network. I find it unbelieveable that this fancy new OS can't support something as common as hidden SSIDs. Now I have no choice but to broadcast the SSID which is not something that I wanted to do. I hope Apple will fix this eventually.

I think I may have figured out part of the rhyme, but the reason is still bewildering. Nobody is stating the router they are using. I figured out a clue to this. I was using the D-Link DIR-825 router with iPhone os 3.1.2 and had no trouble at all with my hidden SSID. Two weeks ago I purchased the Linksys WRT610N, and the iPhone will no longer automatically connect to the router unless I enable broadcast SSID. So why did the iPhone connect to D-Link and not Linksys automatically? There's got to be a difference in the way these companies are treating hidden SSID. The iPhone and iPod Touch will recognize one and not the other. Now it makes a little more sense as to why some people are ok and others not.
What's more peculiar is that my laptop and wireless bridge both work fine with the hidden SSID from both routers. It's only the iPhone that is being finicky.

Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. Im sorry for the confusing topic im just so lost.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
    Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
    Now just synch the iPod.

I can't connect to wifi with iPhone5. Does anyone knows why? and what to do?

    The Holy Mecha of Wifi
Turn router off then on Try turning your wireless router off then back on.
Change or turn off wireless security You may want to try toggling the settings on your wireless router, switching from WPA to WEP or vice versa, or, as a last resort, turning wireless security off altogether. For AirPort routers, this can be accomplished with the AirPort Admin Utility. For other routers, this can usually be accomplished by accessing the router’s configuration page — open a browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1.
Reset network settings on iPad. On your iPad, open Settings, then navigate to “General” in the left-hand pane. Scroll down and tap Reset, then select “Reset Network Settings.” This will delete any stored WiFi passwords and other information, but may result in a more stable connection.
Adjust brightness upward. Oddly, a number of users have found that they can resolve this issue by simply adjusting the iPad’s brightness level upward and off the lowest setting. To do this, tap Settings, then select “Brightness & Wallpaper” from the left-hand pane. Slide the brightness bar upward, then wait 1-2 minutes and check for an improvement in signal strength. Speculation holds that a power delivery issue associated with the screen brightness affects Wi-Fi.
Change thresholds in router settings. Access your routers configuration screen (for most routers, open a browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1), then change the fragmentation threshold and the CTS/RTS threshold as described here. Some users have found success with the settings Fragmentation= 2048, RTS = 512.
Change 802.11 spec on router. Try changing your router’s wireless spec mode from B, G and N to G only or vice versa. For AirPort routers, this can be accomplished with the AirPort Admin Utility. For other routers, this can usually be accomplished by accessing the router’s configuration page — open a browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1.
Switch routers. Although a far-from-ideal solution, some users have found success with switching to a different wireless router.
Turn off “Ask to Join Networks.” To do so, tap Settings on your iPad, then select “Wi-Fi” from the left-hand pane. Slide “Ask to Join Networks” to off. Speculation holds that leaving this option on causes the iPad to constantly seek networks, resulting in some type of interference with the network to which it is connected.
Forget network then rejoin. Tap Settings on your iPad, then select Wi-Fi from the left-hand pane. Choose the network with which you are experiencing difficulty, then select “Forget this network.” Go back to the previous screen and rejoin the network.
Turn off Bluetooth. Some users report that, perhaps due to interference issues, turning off Bluetooth can boost Wi-Fi signal strength. To do so, tap Settings then tap General in the left-hand pane. Tap Bluetooth in the right-hand pane, then slide to off.

  • My ipod touch is saying that I can't connect to itunes because i need the latest update but when i hook it up to my computer it says i have the latest update. where do i go from here?

i just got an ipod touch secondhand. when i try to go to itunes its says "request cannot be completed" then when i search for apps on the internet and try to download them it say I need to update my itunes, but then when I sync my ipod to my computer its says I have the most recent update.

I think that the message is telling you that you need a newer version of the iOS on your iPod.  If the computer has iTunes 10.5 installed then your iPod is maxed out.
    - A 1G iPod can go to 3.1.3 and you get that here:

  • IPod touch recognizes Wireless Router, But Can't Connect To Internet.

    Hello everyone,
My iPod Touch 3rd Gen 3.1.2 recognizes the router and connects to it, but no WiFi meter is showing (the one at the top left corner near "iPod")
15 minutes after I had been using the internet on my iPod touch 2G, I find that my iPod's WiFi connection was disconnected. At first I thought this was a router/modem problem, but I am able to use WiFi through all my computers at home. I tried forgetting the network, resetting my router, and resetting the network settings, but the results are the same.
When I go to Settings>Wi-Fi>[more router options] , the iPod does not show any IP address or subnet mask or router info. But there is a checkmark right next to my router's name.
When I try going to Safari, it gives me a "cannot open page" error: "Operation could not be completed. Invalid argument."
    I am using a Linksys WRT310N under WPA2 encryption.
    Please help!
    Thank you

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • I can not connect to wifi with router WRT54G2 v1 with Windows 7

Hi everyone: I have a Linksys WRT54G2 V1 and since I bought my new notebook with Windows 7 I can not access the wifi.
I have another notebooks with Windows Vista and a PC with Windows XP that connect perfectly, but with Windows 7 gives me error when loading the password.
I Update the firmware to version 1.0.04 (this the latest version I found on the cisco site), but still don't work.
I Try chatting with Cisco support and was told he was no longer under warranty ....
Can you tell me how to solve this problem ???
Thank you for your help !!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sure, disable security on the router completely for now.  Now try to connect with no security.  Once done and verified  go back and add  security back on of WPA2-AES with a new password and try again.

    Well, Hi Apple's users !
I've received my brand new Mac Book Pro 2012 last week. It was installed with last version of OSX Lion.
At work, not problem to connect to WiFi crypted in WPA Enterprise.
At home, i absolutly can't connect to my personnal WiFi crypted in WEP 128bits and with a MAC Address filtrer. If I remove the WEP protection, then it works well. If i remove only Mac Address filtrer, it still not work.
I don't receive any error message as if the password was wrong. I've both tested the hexadecimal code and the passphrase... still get the "?" and no connexion.
I've read a lot of probleme exist on this Lion version with WiFi...

  • Printer can't connect to WIFI with an WPA

Hello , I have an Officejet 6700 Premium.
until last week the printer connected perfectly to the WIFI without any problems.
Today, when im trying to connect the printer through my WIFI that conatins a WPA password, the printer says that the password is illegal ( not correct).
there is no doubt that the password that i entered is correct.
When i turn off the WPA, and i deactivating the WIFI security, the printer connects to my WIFI and i can print again.
I have changed the password of the wifi ( the WPA ) many times, and still could'nt connect.
I dont want to leave my WIFI without a password.
    What can i do ??
    thaks alot.

    Hello @alansk93 ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are having a problem with your printer accepting your wireless password.
    I would like to help.
Sometimes 'old' information gets stuck in the printer.
    Go into the Settings/Setup menu.
Then go into the Network sub menu.
    Choose Restore Network Defaults.
Once this is done, try the wireless setup wizard again.

  • Can't connect to WiFi with my 4s

Before i upgraded my 4s to ios7 all was well. I really do like the new inteface but for some reason my wifi isn;t working right.
It sometimes doesn;t find wifi signals when i know they're there - but that's not the main problem.
When i try to connect to my Sky router at home it doesn;t say 'failed to connect' but it doesn;t suceed either.
If i use the wrong password it fails and tells me  - as i expect.
If i use the right password is says 'connecting' for about 2 minutes, then just loses interest and doesn't connect - but it doesn;t say 'failed' either.
I've tried doing the power-and-front-button-press-hold reset thing and the general-reset-network-setting reset thing ... neither made any difference.
This is really annoying - it was working until recently and now i'm limited to 3G !
Any suggestions on how i get it to connect ?

Sometimes it is even worst, like "Wi-fi grayed out".
What you can do now, is back up ur device, and restore it as new, in case the issue persist, it would be hardware issue, so a repair would solve !
And is your device under the warranty ?
    Regards.

  • Can't connect to wifi with my iphone 4...

Worked great for months, changed to another network and when I got back to my network I changed it in settings and it won't pull up any websites.  Nothing else has changed, thats it.  Wifi is turned on in settings.  I also restored network settings.

Looks as if it is to do with your iPhone, if it can't find any Wi-Fi networks and they are turned on and set to discoverable, even after restarting the router it's still unable to find it my recommendation is to do a restore through iTunes, the update may not have installed properly, I have an iPhone 4 16GB (Black) running iOS 5.0.1 and it finds my Wi-Fi networks and log's onto them no problem, so clearly the software works, just seems that your iPhone is having a bad time
You've done everything else I'd reccommend, normal re-boot, soft reset, reset network settings.
Think it's time to do a full back up in iTunes and do the restore, then see if that resolves the issue, be sure to let us know how it goes if you do decide to do this.

  • My nintendo DS can't connect to wifi with a WEP key.

I entered the SSID and Equivalent Network Password into my Nintendo DS and tried connecting. All it gave me was "Unable to connect to an access point". I only have this problem when my WEP key is on. It works without security, but I don't want to get rid of it.
    Anyone else have this problem?

I have the newer Airport Extreme and have the same problem connecting with the DS. I have WEP security enabled. Does your wireless router (Airport Extreme) need to be set up for "b" only in order to connect with the DS? If that's even possible?
Connecting is not a problem for the Wii, PS 3 or PSP? The DS is the only one that doesn't connect wirelessly.
