IPod Touch "Other" Capacity

The capacity of the section "Other" in my iPod Touch seems to be bigger than usual. I'm guessing this is because some of the files or stuff were lost during the syncing process so they were added to the "Other" category. Anyone know how I can manage the files or stuff in the "Other" section or how I can remove the extra stuff on there? I don't want reset my iPod Touch and erase all the contents on it and re-sync it. That would take a very long time.
Thanks~

You can't manually manage the content in Other. A bloated Other section usually results from a failed or interrupted sync. If performing another full auto-sync does not shrink it to its normal size (typically Other is ~100-110 MB), you will need to Restore and then re-sync your content. It does take a while, but that's the only way.
Hope this helps...

  • IPod Touch Music Capacity

One day I decided to sync all my music on iTunes to my iPod Touch (iTunes says i have 276 songs, 16 hours, 1.68GB of music) when it was done syncing i checked the capacity on the iPod Touch, and now it says I have 3.21GB of music on there and it is still the same amount of songs, any explanations?

Do you have videos, pictures, etc? Album artwork takes up a small amount of space.Try going to SETTINGS - GENERAL - ABOUT and see what it says. Should tell you if you have any videos, photos, apps...the capacity (mine is 29.3 gb) and available amount. If anything is extremely off then you may need to reset your Touch and try syncing again

  • 8GB iPod Touch default capacity reduced

Upgraded my 8GB iPod Touch (bought it on August 2008 - so no idea whether its 2G or 3G)...If my memory serves me right, the default capacity was 7.38GB when the firmware was 3.1.3. After yesterday's upgrade its reduced to 6.82GB. Did iOS4 consume 1.2GB of my iPod Touch space?
Is this only on mine or anybody else are observing the same?

I was loving my ipod, until Apple did the dumb update. I thought the new software would make me love it even more. But what the software has done to my ipod, decreasing my battery life and lowering my capacity, it just ruined it. Apple has to fix this Cause I'm {and a lot others)are not happy! now i have less space to add music and less time to listen and play games! -.-

  • Ipod touch "other" category??

I synced my 8gb ipod touch that had 3.1 gb left. I didn't add anything at all, and now the "other" category is outrageously big (almost a full gig). I was left with 2.5 gb after just syncing it. Any idea how I could fix this problem??

The backup will keep your contacts, preferences, etc. At the end of restoring you just need to select the last backup and should be good to go. Note that the "other" category includes contacts, e-mail, app data, artwork, the OS, etc. but it can also contain media that the iPod lost track of (for whatever reason). Restoring the iPod clears out the entire contents and puts back the stuff that belongs, so "orphaned" media files get cleaned off.

  • IPod Touch Other Space

What is Other on my iPod Touch space? It keeps getting longer and I don't know why! What is it? What does it count as?

When it get larger, like greater than 1 GB, it is usually due to corrupted files.  If the backup does not contain the corrupted files, restore from backup will reduce it to its normal value of less than about 1/2 GB.  However, a restore to factory defaults/new iPod will be required.

  • Ipod touch incorrect capacity showing

    Hi
I recently re formated my laptop and have re installed itunes.
When I puigged in my Ipod it stated that it was registered to another computer and I would have to register it with this one loosing all of the content, this was not an issue as all of the music, films etc were still on the laptop.
My problems start at this point, my music folder in windows 7 shows as 2.5 Gb approximately with 424 songs, and when imported to iTunes it shows the correct number of tunes, (424 songs) and 2.6 Gb approx.
When I sync the ipod the music then expands to 3.6 Gb but still with 424 songs, there are no duplicates and I have not sync'd any other items like books or films.
Before I had to re register the ipod with this laptop the music showed as the correct 2.6 Gb
Any suggestions as to whats happening here as it is the 8Gb touch every meg is important.
I did try to reset the ipod to factory settings and ensureed it has teh correct software but again still expands 2.6 Gb music to 3.5 Gb,,
    Any suggestions appreciated
    Andy

You only have 56.6 GB available to you. The difference between that and the 64 GB advertised capacity is taken up by:
The operating system since you can't use that for storage
and how GB is advertised and used/reported by the operating system. See:
How OS X and iOS report storage capacity - Apple Support
The update did not change anything except likely reducing the capacity by 10 or so MB since update typically add things and thus takes more storage for the operating system

  • Why does my iPod Touch's capacity shrink everytime i restore?

When I first bought my iTouch 4, i have X amount of storage(i couldn't remember because it was a year ago. Then i had this memory issue two months ago, which is no matter what i delete, the itouch tells me i have no space and my itunes wouldn't read it! So i went to the apple store and they told me to do a restore which I did, and after restoring I had 6.5Gb capacity left! Then i was like ahh watever. Just two days ago I had the same excate memory issue again which happened after the iOS 5 updates(including 5.01), So i went the apple store again which got the same result: restore you itouch! Which I did again! But this time my itunes wouldn't recognized my itouch as iOS5.0.1 because i did the delta updates through the ipod itself. So i spent an hour downloading the new update then restored my itouch. But this time, i have only 6.35GB capacity left...... whattt?

because the software takes up more memory every time it updates. that means more features.

  • Ipod touch over capacity

I recently got a new windows 7 hp desktop. I transfered all of my music via external hard drive, and transfered my apps via itunes transfer purchases. I have not synced my ipods' photos yet. When I click sync, it goes through step one and two, then I get a message from itunes telling me my ipod doesn't have enough free space to sync (additional 17.24 GB needed) which is also the amount of music I have on my ipod (17.3 GB). In the lower bar it says I have 3.3 GB remaining. I have restarted my ipod and computer many times over the past week and it still doesnt work. I would like to be able to sync this without having to restore so i can keep my settings and photos ( I dont have a backup on my computer because I havent synced yet). any suggestions? also iTunes is updated to the latest version.

the same has happened to me, but i think it is because it uses up memory on your iPod when it is syncing therefore iTunes updates itself during the sync and says that you have overused or used up all of the memory on the device,
    i hope this helps!

  • ITunes quits when I refresh podcasts with iPod touch connected

If I click the "refresh podcast" button in iTunes (version 11.3.1.2) while my iPod touch (32G capacity currently with 4.5G available; still running iOS 5.1.1) is connected, iTunes quits. If the iPod is not connected, the refresh runs just fine; any available podcasts are downloaded. I'm running iTunes on Windows 7 with all the latest security updates. This issue first occurred August 16, 2014.

  • From Palm Desktop to iPod Touch

I have many years of contacts and calendar entries in my Palm Desktop (& Palm PDA). I want to migrate these contacts and calendar into my new iPod Touch, using it as my PDA going forward.

I have the same problem: I had a Palm Pilot for years and have a lot of historical information that I want to IMPORT. That is, I'm not interesting in Synching, I'm interested in IMPORTING it once and leaving Palm Desktop behind.
I'm running Outlook on my PC, but it's Outlook 2002, so I don't think your solution will work. I would have to pay to upgrade, which is very expensive for a one-time use (I probably wouldn't continue to use Outlook).
Do you have a suggestion for a one-time solution to import Palm Data into something that runs on a PC that I can then synch with my iPod Touch, other than Outlook?

  • IPad vs. iPod Touch: differences? help me choose

What are the biggest differences between an iPad and iPod touch, other than the size obviously? I'm torn between which one to get. Is there anything the iPad can do which the Touch can't, or vice versa?

It is a bit of a dilemma. The ipad's larger screen means that it can have apps that do things that you wouldn't necessarily want to do on the small screen of the ipod (I have an app that lets me keep my sheet music on the ipad as a gig book, for example), but there is the problem that it's a lot more to lug around. On the other hand, the camera in the ipod is nice to have, at least for video (stills are pretty mingy, compared to the camera in the iphone).
If you're young, with great eyesight, the ipod is a lot handier to keep with you all the time, but it sure is nice to have the larger screen of the ipad. Really, this is something you'll have to decide for yourself.
