IPod Touch package - What is the white thing for?

hi there!
The package have a white "thing", if I may call it so, I don't know what is for. It have a slot that fit nicely for the USB cable. Also, the touch itself somewhat fit in it so it obviously has some docking function? Unfortunately it cannot figure out how to use this thing? Do I need it and how do I do whatever I can do with this?!?!?

Only have to figure out how to add some web apps. I want the Tip Calculator installed for dinner.. Guess this will keep me entertained for the evening since the WiFi refuse to access the desktop's shared internet. I can get to iPod to connect to the wifi net but no data ever reach it.. Apparently its like that since v1.1.4 (?) now I need a 'base station' or something.. There must be a better way than hacking. I might start a new topic for that.

Has the unit EVER been jailbroke? Has it EVER been dropped? Did it EVER get excessively wet? Did you EVER load a pirated developer's version of the IOS?
If "No" to all the above, first try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

Fact is, the chances of fully recovering from water damage, on an iPhone, are extremely low. Your best bet is to belly up to the bar & pay Apple the out of warranty exchange fee: US $269. Make an appointment at any Apple store.

where on my computer am I suppose to make the individual picture files and have them to upload on my ipod touch.... I do have a photo library on my computer, but in the photo tab in itunes for the ipod touch and there is nothing checked for syncing, cause when I do check it it always says its going to replace everything i have in my photo library on my ipod touch..... So how am i suppose to have it checked and have it NOT replace pictures on it????
Also I cannot make more photo albums into my ipod touch, it just replaces the one album every time....
I am very frustrated cause I have tried the manuals and the apple support help etc and nothing pertains to my exact issue.....

IPod Touch Newbie: What is the purpose of the iTunes app on my iPod Touch?

What is the purpose of the iTunes app on my iPod Touch?
All it does is connect to the iTunes store if I'm near a WiFi connection. It appears to be useful only for impulse purchasing of media. So why is it not named "iTunes Store"? It appears to have no other function.
Also, to listen to my iTunes music on iPod Touch I have to click on the Music button...not the iTunes app. What logic is that?
Also, iTunes has synced a movie for me, but I have no clue how to view it on the iPod Touch. It doesn't appear in iTunes on the iPod Touch, and there is no "Movie" button anywhere. What am I missing? I can't find it anywhere.

Home button stuck on iPod Touch. What are the ways in fixing this problem?

I've had my ipod touch from Nov 2011, and just recently I have noticed the ipod touch home button is getting stuck and that I have to push the button hard for it to work. Sometimes it works with a slight touch. I put assistive touch on so that if i have any problems I can get an easy fix out of it. But having the assistive touch is really annoying because the normal button is not working and it gets in the way of what I'm doing. Is there any way on fixing this problem other than using the assistive touch.
I've used tips on the following video which seem to work. But its only a temporary fix to my problem.

There is no benefit other than the you might receive one before the retail stores put them out for sale, but the likelihood of that is very small.

You won't be able to exchange it with Apple, no.
Like csound1, the best I can suggest is to sell it on eBay or Craigslist, and put that towards the cost of a new one.

I was updating from iOS 6 beta 1 to beta 2 when my ipod froze up and started showing the white screen of death. I've tried the trick where you hold the power and home button for ten seconds and tried to put it in DFU mode to restore. None of these tricks work and my screen is still white. Also I plug it into my Windows Vista computer with iTunes 10.6.3 but it wont show up. I really need help. I don't have warranty or money to buy a new one. Yeah I went with Black/Slate because if I get a Speck case or other protective case it will look way better! The colors with white fronts are all kind of ugly. Just my opinion not saying to buy black. I am not a fan of the white front anyway.

Why is the iPod Touch (4th Gen) missing the video setting for TV Out?

Has anyone else noticed that in the iPod Touch (4th Gen) that there isn't a video setting for TV Out? It's not on the new iPhone either. I wanted to attach an AV Composite cord from my iPod to my TV. It won't work because of the missing video setting. You would think that since this is new technology, it would have that setting. After all, my iPod from 2005 has that feature and works just fine with the $39 AV Compostie cable from Apple. I was hoping to display what I have on my iPod Touch to my TV, but discovered that I couldn't. When I called Apple, they thought at first I had a defective cable. But later told me that i OS 5 left out the video out feature as if by mistake. Could anyone elaborate on this issue? I would appreciate it. Thanks!!

I am well aware that setting was on the iPod before iOS 5! My question is why is it missing? Because right now, Apple is selling the AV Composite cable claiming it's compatible with the iPod Touch (4th Gen) and it's not. Thank you!

Frequenly the white scree is due to a hardware problem.
