IPod touch promotion

So a few months back I purchased a new 17" Mac Book Pro through the online apple store because I needed a computer for school.
At the time there was a promotion through apple that promised with any purchase of a laptop for school, the buyer would receive an iPod touch after they sent in a claim.
So, I purchased my laptop, and once received entered my claim on the website. I was then informed I was not eligible for the promotion, although I had purchased the laptop through my school's promotional link.
It is required by my university that every student purchase a Mac, and almost every student I talked to had received the promotion.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so, what was done about it? I don't know why my particular purchase was exempt from the promotion. Should I just accept it, or is there something I could do to make them follow through?
I've tried several times to e-mail customer service about it, and they wrote back once stating I was not eligible for the promotion, but when I wrote back asking why they did not reply.
As I followed all the steps listed on the site, I'm wondering what I did wrong.
Can anyone shed a little light on this?

How can I determine if my Ipod Touch 8gb is a 2nd or 3rd generation?

I purchased a MacBook Pro in September when they were having the special where you could get an Ipod Touch 8 gb for free.
Well, I have decided to keep my old Ipod Touch just b/c it is working fine and I would like to sell my new one. The new one is in the original packaging and I don't want to remove it so I can sell it as new, never been out of the box.
My question is how can I tell if this is a 2nd or 3rd generation Ipod Touch? I looked on my invoice and couldn't figure it out. I noticed on CL and EBay, everyone indicates 2nd or 3rd and I want to have the correct info.
I am "guessing" it is 2nd generation and that is why it was part of the promotion.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much.

That isa correct, the 8 GB is still 2nd Gen. The only ones that are any different are the 32 or 64 GB versions. This is a 2nd Gen iPod.

New to Apple, I think my ipod touch is doa

First of all, I would just like to say I am new to Apple and the discussion forums so hello to all!
Unfortunately, my main reason for joining isn't a positive one. I have received an 1st gen 8gb ipod touch from an upgrade offer with a mobile phone network (UK). After a long wait and several complaints to them, they finally sent me the ipod. However, I think the device is dead on arrival.
When I first unboxed it, I did the usual thing: Download iTunes, connect the device to my computer. iTunes informed me that the device was in "recovery mode" and that I must "restore" first to use the iPod. This is where the problem is, the restore process does not complete. I get an "1604" error.
I went to an Apple store, where a kind member of staff attempted to get me started with the device only to encounter the same problem. He pointed out to me that on the same page as the "restore" button in iTunes, the ipod information does not state the device capacity and other information which he found wierd. Could this be clue to whats going on?
The mobile phone network don't want anything to do with my problem as it was a promotional offer, also they no longer have stock of the device and the new ipod is out now. They insist I should take up my problem with apple.
Has anyone had experience with this? Maybe there is someone out there who has also had a doa device. Any advice is much appreciated. What are my options? Am I able to have this device repaired or replaced?

I live in Belgium. I buy a new Ipod touch TODAY and I try to update for have widget etc... On top in this site, Apple promote & propose for free for new customers. In my touch, i haven't got the new update, why ????

No but they usually have one every year. If I had know Id get a free ipod 2 years ago when I bought mine if I got a macbook I wouldve ditched the PC and purchased a macbook and got an ipod as well, it was more of a sarcastic remark and heads up for future possible promotions that seem to be routine, than an actual statement.

If i buy a new ipod touch now, can i exchange it for the new version?

I am gonna get a new ipod touch 8GB as part of the education deal when buying an imac before the 7th sept. I am wondering if i can exchange it for one of the new ones when they are announced and in stores a week or two later? If i bought a macbook pro in store or online i know i can exchange it within 30 days (by paying a price difference to the new model) or get a discount (if the prices for the old model went down within 30 days of me purchasing).
Would this apply to the ipod touch too, if i get it through the education store?

Sorry, but the iPod touch from the Back-To-School promotion could not be returned nor exchanged. The promotion is actually a rebate (unless you're referring to a promotion other than in the US); you choose your qualifying iPod model and purchase it, and will then get a rebate back of up to $199 (it varies depending on the model of iPod you choose).
The US promotion applies only to specific iPod models and expires on September 7th, so it would not apply to any iPod model released after that date. For the full terms, see:

My grandson played with my 4th generation iPod touch and the phone icon and contacts icon are gone. I have gone to settings and done the "reset all settings" and "reset home screen layout" with no success. I also did a hard reset. No luck. Help?

What generation is the iPod? If it's 3rd or 4th, you can update it. (to iOS 5).

Student deal: macbook pro with new ipod touch facetime????

Hi I see that the new ipod touch with facetime is on the apple web page.
On education store, it says I can buy any apod and mac and apple will refund 219 CAD (Canadian store).
Is this deal works for the new ipod touch? I don't need mac immidiately but I can buy it if the new touch is free. From terms, it says any ipod but rebate form is old, and does not include new models.
PS: I can buy the new ipod touch and mac book but if I buy mac first they redirect me to old ipod page. Crap.
Any one knows?

As had been said already, Apple can do nothing to assist in this type of matter. They don't even flag things as stolen, since they cannot take your word for it.

even if i had installed "find my ipod" app on the ipod touch, doing a restore would erase everything on the device and there is no way i can track it...
That is correct; they can turn it off. There is no practical way to set up an anti-theft system that cannot be disabled. Find My iPod is not promoted as an anti-theft system but as an anti-loss system, though in some cases thieves have been unaware of the service, not turned it off, and have been caught.

Ipod touch freezing on music app

I got a new ipod touch 4th gen, running on ios 5.0.1. When I do turn it the side to do the album scroll it freezes somewhere around my "S" artists. It doesnt freeze when its turned up. Help?

Have you tried a reset? Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears.

HT4962 my dtr bought a used 2nd gen iPod touch

how do we find out what iOS it has on it - and I have read how to update... but I can't seem to get it to update. Maybe we can't update... but how can I be sure. Supposedly it hadn't been used in a long time and I thought there should be an update available. She can't load some previous apps that was on her iPod 4th gen that got stolen. Needless to say she is heart broken and she was expecting to be able to text her friends like she used to.

Pinger - free texts and calls currently requires iOS 4.0, so an iPod Touch with iOS 4.2.1 on it can use that App.
As for the previous owner's content, legally, it doesn't belong to your daughter and so she isn't entitled to keep it. (Can't say I agree with these outdated copyright laws, but that's the legal position, not Apple's). So that is why the iPod will erase the previous content.
Perhaps you should just bite the bullet and put the update on and then your daughter starts from scratch adding her own content. Presumably, at the moment, she cannot actualy add anything of her own since that will delete the previous content, and therefore she is stuck with a choice that isn't hers. The benefit of starting afresh is that she would then have her own choice of music (and let's face it, the cost buying one song at a time is pocket money - if she gets it of course) and not someone else's. Many Apps, such as Pinger, are free to install, others can be also at pocket money level.
However, should you go that route, you need to be aware of in-app purchases. I notice Pinger has this feature, to buy (for example) 100 minutes for £1.49, or about $2. I'm don't understand why that should be necessary when it's promoting itsellf as a "free text" and "free calls" App.

Did ipod touch 2nd gen come with a wall charger?

I currently have two ipod touch, a 4th generation (white) and a 2nd generation. I was wondering if either ipod should have come with a wall charger becuase very recently two of my friends, one with a 2nd gen ipod touch like me and one with an iphone 4, both said that their devices came with a wall charger. As far as i know, mine did not. I've been browsing the community and internet and have not found a clear answer. Please help! Thanks.
(BTW i bought both devices from an apple store at a major shopping center.)

Mine didn't come with a wall charger. It came with a USB connector cable and headphones, but the plastic box is too small to hold a wall charger. (I got mine free as an education promotion with a new iMac, but it did come inside the plastic retail case.)
