Ipod touch randomly stops playing??

My 3rd gen ipod touch has all of a sudden started stopping while playing any song (purchased from itunes or not). I usually use it in my car where I hook it up to a Pioneer head unit via USB cable. To get it to resume play I find I have to unplug and plug the USB cable but it sometimes stops 4 or 5 times on the same song which is really annoying while I'm driving. If it's not hooked up to any device, I have to hit play again multiple times!! Sometimes it skips to the next song before completely playing the previous song. Sometimes it even seems to take over the head unit and turns it completely off ???
I've restored it a gazillion times, completely shut it off when I turn my car off, updated to the latest software 5.0 with no results :-( It's a 32G 3rd gen ipod, lightly used, never been dropped, with only about 6G of music on it. I'm really dissatisfied with this product! I think I'll go back to CDs :-(. Of  course it is now out of warranty so Apple is no help!! Really don't want to buy another ipod only to experience the same problem.
Anybody with similar experience that can offer advice??
P.S.: My son's 4th gen ipod touch works perfectly hooked up to the same Pioneer head unit so I've ruled out it has something to do with that.

Mine does this on three known songs. I have no idea how to fix.

Please help, my ipod touch has stopped playing through my docking station, what should I do?

Undock the Touch, get a flashlight and inspect the docking connector. Clear any dust/debris you find. Do the same on your docking station.

  • IPod touch randomly stops song

I just got an iPod touch under a month ago. When I am listening to a song, it will just randomly stop and return to the home screen. This usually has been happening when I am listening to a song and then turn my iPod to look through cover flow. This just started yesterday, and I have already restored the iPod, but I am still having the same problem.
    Please help!

Many others have experienced this issue as well, such as

I've found that the 3.0 update seems to address the problem, although invoking cover flow (accidently or otherwise) can still cause playback to stop. Let us know if installing 3.0 fixes the problem for you.

  • New iPod touch just stopped playing videos

I just got my iPod touch last night and it has been perfect till just now. The mail program froze and after I reset the iPod it won't play video. Not YouTube or ones I uploaded from iTunes. It stays on the opening image, has no sound and won't turn to landscape but says it is playing. I tried reseting it again but no go. Haven't tried connecting to the computer yet but will when I have access. The iPod was being charged with the Apple USB charger when it happened if that means anything.

I just figured it out. The charger was making it go to tv on. Duh

  • Ipod touch music stop playing through sony dream machine help.

one of the two ipod touches we have in the house has stopped working after one day with the Sony Dream Machine.

Does the iPod still charge and syn with the computer?
    Try the stamdard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • IPod touch randomly stopped working altogether?

    Hello,
Last night, I had went to turn on my ipod touch only to realize the front button wouldn't turn it on. I tried holding the top and front button to restart it. I've plugged it into the charger to see if it was dead, and it still didn't work. Then, when I went to plug it into my computer, my computer isn't even detecting it on itunes. The USB is brand new and I tried all USB ports just in case.

    Hey there our3goldens,
It sounds like you are unable to successfully boot your iPod Touch. I would recommend these steps specifically from the following article, named:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Why does my ipod touch (2nd Gen) 32G randomly stop playing while at the same time the volume control slider dissappears?

It randomly stops playing after as little as 7 seconds and as much as 2 minutes.   To resolve the problem I began removing and reinserting headphone jack.  This sometimes rectified the issue, but inevitably it would stop playing again.  I have blown air into the headphone jack receptical and powered down the product but neither action has permanently corrected the problem.
It has been a couple of months since it was last restored.
Any thought on why this has just started to happen.  Does it need to be repaired by Apple?  The item was purchased in Sept 2009.

It is possible you have a faulty lock/power button. One of my friends iPods did this. See if a faulty lock/power button is covered by your warranty if you don't have a warranty you might have to pay a pretty penny to get it fixed. When the screen flashes does it go black and come back at the lockscreen? If so it is very much the lock/power button.

  • Touch randomly stops and I hve to hit play again!

My ipod touch randomly pauses a song and will not start it again unless I hit the play button. It is not moving to the next song as described in many of hte posts. I am wondering if I need to return it because it's not just this song or that one but it can be all of them. I can flip the ipod, shake it and it won't stop it but while I'm driving letting it sit there on a flat surface it stops! It's very annoying!! Please advise!

I would think to look in a couple of areas ... just something I would think of, off the top of my head. First, I would make sure it is already downloaded in full on your iPad. I don't think they can be streamed while downloading, but I could be wrong, and maybe it is being streamed while downloading ... and the downloading isn't finished. Just one guess here.
The next one is whether there are other apps running at the same time. I would start to think of RAM, at that point. I would quit all other apps and then restart (with the power button). Then start up just the program to view it. That should take care of the RAM problem.
If I really started going nuts with this thing, then I would look at the settings and resetting them. And then finally, I would wonder if I needed to reset my iPad to factory default and if something went wrong with the app.
Anyway ... I have no idea, but that's what I would start looking at if it were my iPad ... :-) ...

  • My iPod touch will not play or charge on my non apple dock since the software was updated, why is this?

My iPod touch used to play and charge in my non apple dock but now will do neither. Looking back it appears to have stopped working when the software was updated to 5.1. Why is this?

There are two sides to this.  On the one hand, an Apple upgrade bricked your dock and that bites. On the other hand, Apple can't be expected to design around 3rd party devices that don't follow the specifications. We don't know why Apple made this particular change that bricked your dock so it is difficult to judge whether or not there was a good reason behind it.  We also do not know why AIVN didn't follow the specification but it was probably cost related.
Note: If you sell the iPod, you'll still have a non-functioning dock.  You can sell it to someone with an older iPhone or iPod that can't be updated to iOS 5.1.

  • My ipod touch just stopped working! how do you restore?

I was playing a game and my ipod touch just stopped working!  How do you restore it , as of now it has a bright white screen and won't power off or even connect to my computer.

Try restoring via iTunes. If necessary. try placing the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs and then restore:

RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot

  • HLS encryption VOD randomly stop playing on IOS

We have 4 AMS servers load balanced (DNS) with identical application on each. RTMPe is playing fine from flash desktops, however, HLSe on IOS devices randomly stops playing part way through the content. I do not see any relevant errors in AMS/Apache. The front end player shows the following errors when the content stops playing:
"CoreMediaErrorDomain" "No response for media file in 0.49632s"
"CoreMediaErrorDomain" "Segment exceeds specified bandwidth for variant"
Similar issues discussed here: http://openradar.io/15060374 (thought not AMS specific).
This could be a player issue. It seems to randomly have issues grabbing an HLS segment. Has anyone else had any similar issues?

I just wanted to add an update in case anyone else runs into a similar issue.  I seem to have found a solution to the problem.  Here's what I did:
    1) Plugged in to my computer and removed all music from my iPod (just unselected "sync music" then allowed the iPod to sync).
    2) In iTunes, under the summary tab of my iPod, I selected "convert higher bit rate songs to 256 kbps AAC" in the options section.
    3) I synced my iPod.  This took a REALLY long time, as I have just over 52GB of music that I chose to put on my iPod.  This is 52GB AFTER the conversion to 256kbps.  Anyway, it took a couple hours to sync the first time because it had to convert almost every song.  After the first sync, it doesn't take long to sync unless I add a lot of songs and even then, it only takes a few minutes.
I've listened to my music on a variety of devices (in my car, different types of headphones, computer at work etc) and haven't noticed any degradation in quality, despite the fact that nearly all of the original music files on my computer are 320kbps.  I'm not sure if the problem I was having was due to the higher bitrate or the fact that the original music files are a variety of formats (aac, mp3, wav, and some others).
I did this later in the evening after I posted the original question and have not had a problem since (about 15 days).  Skipping songs seems to go a lot faster as well.  I use my iPod a good 6-10 hours everyday, so I think that having no problems in the last 15 days is pretty good evidence that this is a good solution.
Hopefully this is helpful to anyone that stops by here
