IPod touch rebooted itself!

My iPod touch 3rd gen (with 4 gen software) rebooted itself. The ipod told me to connect to iTunes, but when I connected the iPod, iTunes told me it can't connect to my iPod because it is locked with a passcode, and that I have to type the passcode on the pod, and it does have a passcode I programed.. But I can't type it on because the iPod is telling me to connect to itunes!

What happens if you try to manually place it in recovery mode?  See this article for information on getting it into Recovery Mode.

  • Music hangs while browsing, then iPod touch reboots itself , 1.1.3

    Hi,
usually when I'm listening to music and browsing the web, one or two of those apps crash after a short while using 1.1.2. I was curious what 1.1.3 does.
I was listening to music podcast and browsing with mobile safari. During loading a web page, mobile safari stopped to show more progress and the music was hanging, looping a bit. Finally the iPod was rebooting. Not a great improvement, if you ask me.
    Regards,
    Rainer Joswig

Are you saying that the issue is present in 1.1.3?
I'm not seeing it, but I've only spent a limited time testing...

  • Brand new iPod touch restarts itself all the time

Hello, my dad just came home from Japan, with a brand new iPod touch.
I managed to register it in iTunes, but when i updated the firmware i got an error message. I tried again and i think that i succeed. Then i started to sync music and the rest of the stuff. The syncing stopped after a minute, and when i tried to navigate on my iPod i realised that the touch screen didn't respond. So after several attempts, i made a hard reset.
But now, the iPod touch restarts itself. The Apple logo comes up, and then the screen turns off in a dramatical way, and then the Apple logo comes up again. If i hard reset my device again, the process continous.
I sometimes the iPod shows the "charge battery" screen, and then I can charge the battery. BUT after 5 minutes, the iPod touch starts restarting itself again. :S
Does anyone have a solution to this? Extremely strange.

I suspect you have a hardware problem. Probably a non-functioning battery (over or under) and causing a hardware reset. Bring it to an Apple Store for replacement.

  • 4G iPod Touch Reboots during Sync

My 4th generation iPod touch reboots several times during the sync process. It doesn't seem to affect the synchronization, as the iPod and Mac do seem to synchronize correctly. Running OSX 10.6.5 and iTunes 10.1 (54); iPod contents are 1293 songs, 1035 apps, no podcasts, 39 books & 71 photos. Also, iPod has about 3GB free out of 64GB

Do you receive an error message? If so, what is it?

  • My iPod Touch turns itself off randomly

My iPod Touch turns itself off randomly. I will be doing something, and it turns off. It gets so bad that it turns off right after I slide to unlock it. Sometimes it flickers off and on as well. It works fine when plugged in to a power source. I haaven't done anything traumatic to it either. It just randomly started. Has this happened to anyone? If so, did you fix it? If you did, How? Please tell me, I'm at the eand of my rope with this.

Depending on the usage and age of the device it could be the battery.
To make sure it is not software related, reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back gain. You will not lose data doing a reset.
Next step after that would be setting it up "as new device" without using the latest backup: How to set up your iPhone or iPod touch as a new device

  • IPod Touch reboots computer

Agggggg! Every time I plug in my iPod touch to the computer, one of two things happen. 1. It won't recognize the device. or 2. It says it's a "Digital Camera" and after 2-3 seconds the computer "Reboots". I've checked out most all of the posts but none have the "reboot" problem. I've removed iTunes twice (per website instructions)and downloaded the latest version but still nothing. I can't keep the computer from "Rebooting" long enought to check anything else out. I've tried a new cable and plugged it into the USB port on the back of my PC and still zip. This didn't happen until I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes 3 days ago and when I tryed to use it for the first time, (to delete a downloaded Podcast) iTunes would start up OK but as soon as I plugged my IPod into the USB Port of the computer I would get a message saying it was a "Digital Camera" and then the computer would "Reboot". The Ipod works "OK" otherwise. I did download my first "Podcast" and it was from Disney and I did it through the iPod using iTunes on the iPod with "WIFI" but the prodcast won't play as it says it is not the right "Format" (even when I used iTunes to do it in the first place) so I was going to use iTunes on my computer to delete it because you can't delete it on the iPod itself and now I can't get the iPod to connect to the computer.
Hay, I'm 64 with little hair and I'm about to pull the rest out.... Help!
    Thanks

I get the same problem of reboot on one (a Dell dimension 5150 under W XP Home family SP3) of my pcs when I usb-plug my ipod touch 4.
I've read a lot of posts (from Apple or not), I've followed exactly what it is written on drivers update, iTune update and so on ...
After 3 days of experiences ...
and thancks to your post, I succeed to (quite) avoid this reboot ... while my ipod is usb-plugged (it's a speed game between the device manager and my mouse!)
If I win the game , I succeed to uninstall the camara driver that appears in Imaging device (and that is the source of the reboot problem!) and then (I've time to) update the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
But, if I unplug and plug my ipod again, the camera driver appears again ... and hooups!! again a reboot (if ....).
So, my question is: how to fix definitively the uninstallation of the camera driver that appears under Imagin device when I usb-plug my Ipod ?
remark A: This problem of reboot appears once I got my firt photos with my Ipod touch.
remark B: All work fine on my mobile PC, under W7.

  • My ipod touch reboots over and over after updating to 5.1 firmware

I have a 3rd generation 32gb ipod touch that up until recently worked just fine. In order to download use an app I was required to update to 5.1, prior to this I had never updated the firmware so it was using whatever version was on there when I purchased it in 2010. After the update my ipod started randomly rebooting, this happens even if it is just sitting there doing nothing. It happens so often that in a 24 hour period my battery went from full to empty even though I was not even using it. I've tried using the restore option and starting it as a new ipod about 5 times now but it just continues to happen. I also tried downloading and installing older firmware but I get a 3194 error. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I would try deleting the existing firmare update file on yur computer and then try restoring the the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod. If yu still have the problem then it is likely due to a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Ba ro of an Apple store is in order. The update file is located here:

  • HT1435 iPod Classic reboots itself every minute, is there a way to restore it?

After populating a new iPod Classic up to 50GB of 160GB space, it reboots itself every minute. No chance for iTunes to recognise so no way to reset/reload the device.
Any other way anyone can suggest? Mainly to delete the contents before replacing/returning to the shop.

Have you had a look at Troubleshooting here...

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch Reboots Westell 9100EM Verizon FiOS Router

I've been round and round with Verizon FiOS with no answers yet.
My iPod Touch 2nd Gen 16GB 3.0 will connect successfully to my FiOS router wirelessly...but as soon as I try to access my mail or any internet site my router reboots. I just got FiOS a week or so ago. They have replaced the router but I still have the same issue. I never had this problem with my cable provider that I had in the past and using my Linksys WRT54G router. As a test, I connected my Linksys to my FiOS router as an access point and turned the wireless off on my FiOS router. As soon as attempted to get my mail on the iPod...the FiOS router rebooted again...but not the Linksys. I have tried using WPA w/TKIP (which I used on my Linksys) as well as WEP (although I don't like WEP).
I'm a Systems Engineer by trade and do this kind of troubleshooting for a living but this has me stumped. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas?

Wow, I never have heard of a device causing a router to reboot. I've got one idea about what could be happening but it is too strange to be the cause. Try updating the router DNS addresses to something that works - like OpenDNS.
Also, I would ask Verizon for another router. Other people certainly don't have this problem.

  • IPod Touch reboots PC

Everytime I plug my new iPod Touch into my desktop and turn it on, it reboots my PC. I downloded the latest iTunes and I used this same computer all the time with my 80G Video iPod.
I tried plugging it in to my laptop (Windows XP) and there is no problem.
    Any suggestions?

Sorry - the desktop runs on XP home edition and the laptop is XP Media Center.
I am running iTunes 7.6.2.9 on the desktop.

Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and restore via iTunes.

  • My iPod touch turns itself off automatically

I got my iPod touch 2G 16GB this Monday and it reacts strangely when it plays music or video using the speaker, it turns itself off automatically. Is it because of the low battery? Or anything else?

it might be because of the battery, or it could just be that it is putting itself in "sleep" mode, if that is what has happened it will "wake" when you push the hold or the home button. but im not sure this is just a guess. what happens when you push one of the buttons after it has shut down? does it continue to play the music once it has turned off?

  • Problem with iPod Touch Rebooting - Restore No Worky

Out of nowhere my ipod touch started turning off on it's own. To turn it back on I can hit the power button on top, but after the white apple is displayed it shuts off agian. Never makes it to the home scrren. The only way to keep it on is to plug it into my car charger. As soon as I take it off the charger and play a song it shuts off again.
I already tried a restore and that didn't do anything. I am not use the new 2.2 software version.
It is not under warranty. Is there any solution for this? If I pay the fee for the new software (which is ridiculous), will that by any chance fix this?
    Thanks for any insight.
    Nick

I figured out that the issue is when I plug my ipod touch into the AUX port on any radio it will play for a few seconds and then crash. I've tried two different vehicles and it does the same thing on both.
Why would the ipod crash using the AUX port on a radio? Headphones work fine and my FM transmitter which use the large bottom slot on the ipod works fine as well.
    Any clue?

  • IPod touch locks itself.

I just updated my iPod touch 4th Gen. Ever since the lock button seems to lock my iPod automattically and then if I leave it long enough without touching it the slider will show up to turn it off. What can I do?

    - Does it appear that the on/off/power button is working correctly and not sticking?
    - Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • IPod Touch Reboot Problem

I have an iPod Touch, 1st Generation, 16 GB that is jailbroken. I fully turned it off by holding the power and home buttons a few days ago and when I went to turn it back on it shows a black screen with information on it. It gets to the point where it says "Running fsck on the boot volume..." then goes on to say "Invalid directory item count (It should be 38 instead of 37)
Then after a little while it restarts the ipod, and restarts this process
I've left it on for several hours now and it just repeats this over and over.
When I plug it into the computer, itunes doesn't recognize that it is plugged in so I can't just restore it.
    Please help me!

    Hi,
Try placing your iPod in Recovery Mode and restoring it via iTunes:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.
    Hope this helps!
