IPod Touch Recognition Problem

iPod Touch 4th generation: When I use a usb to sync my iPod to my computer; aolutely nothing shows up on both My Computer and iTunes, but the ipod charges.  I've tried multiple restarts of both my computer and itunes.  Also another cable was used as well as another computer to see if the ipod would show up at all.  When I completely uninstall Itunes My computer will recognize that there is indeed an ipod there, but as soon as Itunes is loaded...the ipod is no longer in existance.  I've been through the Apple troubleshooting sites, but nothing is actually working.

This is also happening to me. I installed Itunes 8.1 and my ipod touch 2g was acting buggy for a couple days so i decided to restore and it restored to ipod touch firmware, but Itunes sees it as an iPhone and gives me all the extra options. I have clicked restore and it only recognizes to restore it to iPhone firmware.

  • Ipod Touch Recognition Problems...***Different Than Others***

I have seen a bunch of other posts similar to the problem i have but i wanted to post one specifically with my problem.
Ok, when i plug my ipod in it starts to charge like it should and itunes opens up, like it should...But my ipod doesn't show up in itunes and it doesn't show up in My Computer. If anyone can help me with my situation it would be much appreciated. I just want my baby back!

I had the same problem with my iPhone with iTunes 7 and I solved it up by installing iTunes 8.
If your problem remains, you can use an alternative iPod Touch manager such as the one I used before iTunes 8 was released: CopyTrans Manager http://www.copytrans.net/manager.php

As you can see, there are many problems here. Quicktime is apprently unavailable, when it's installed. iTunes doesn't recognize me as an administrator, when the account is indeed an admin (and can perform administrative actions).
Connection to the iTunes store is unsuccessful, when iTunes is enabled in the windows firewall. All the services iTunes needs to run, are running successfully. The sole exception being Bonjour, which iTunes doesn't seem to realize is running. I've verified the service to be running, and have restarted it. Additionally, mDNSresponder.exe is not running under task manager. Manually starting it from Bonjour's file directory doesn't work, either. I've changed my "hosts" file, and still no luck. I've also changed a couple of Internet Explorer internet properties, and the unsuccessful connectivity doesn't change. I've reinstalled the whole line of Apple software, without a change in results. Reboots are just as unsuccessful.
Ultimately, my problem is neither iTunes nor Windows recognizes my iPod Touch, whereas my old Nano used to work fine. On other computers, iTunes is fine. The problem is on this one, and whether it's an Apple or Windows problem, I don't know. Hopefully someone here can help me out, as I would be immensely appreciative.

    One step forward?
I'd like to doublecheck something you mentioned earlier:
I've verified the service to be running, and have restarted it. Additionally, mDNSresponder.exe is not running under task manager.
When you were in the processes tab, did you have "Show processes from all users" checked, as per the following screenshot? (mDNSresponder.exe runs under SYSTEM, so you don't see it in there unless that box is checked.)

  • IPod touch Battery Problems Since iOS 7 was installed last year.

Hello, I've had recurring battery problems with my iPod touch since the iOS 7 update was installed, and I find myself having to charge my iPod touch (5th Generation) a lot more frequently since I installed this update.
On iOS 6, I had never experienced any problems with the iPod touch's battery, as I was able to let the battery drain down completely, and let it charge for 4 hours (recommended). After the iPod touch was fully charged for 4 whole hours, I was able to unplug the lightning cable, and the iPod touch on its own would last a few days to at least a week or two weeks.
On iOS 7, since it saw its general release on the 18th September last year, I have found that the iPod's battery has drained so bad, that it dies too quickly, and when I put the iPod touch on charge, in almost an hour, the iPod touch tells me that it is 100% charged. However, when I take the iPod touch off its charge after it fully charges for that hour, it quickly drains down again.
I have gone through the standard procedure of restoring my iPod touch to its factory settings, and I have seen absolutely no improvement on the battery life whatsoever. I mainly back up whatever is on my iPod touch (I back up pictures, videos and also transfer updates that I have installed for certain apps onto iTunes), though I have seen how some people have backed up the data on their iPod's or iPhones, only they find their iDevice draining so quickly.
Even turning off certain features in the Settings app to improve the battery life doesn't help, as there is almost no difference that solves the problems I'm currently having with the iPod touch's battery.
I recently heard about the free iPhone battery replacement program which is now available, so I'm starting to worry whether I have to pay for a new replacement battery for my iPod touch.
Your help in this matter would be gratefully appreciated.
    Many kind regards,
    Alex Smithson

I mainly charge the iPod touch itself for four hours and it still doesn't make a difference. I've had my iPod touch for almost 2 years and since I installed iOS 7, it still doesn't make a difference.
I was wondering, if the article you have provided doesn't sort the problems with the battery out, is there another alternative??
Your help and advice is most appreciated.
    Many kind regards,

  • ICal on Mac desktop to iPod Touch syncing problem

I have events on my iPod Touch that will not sync to my Mac OS 10.6.8 desktop.
What I've done that may have caused this:
I got a new MacBook for Christmas and so I tried syncing all 3 with iCloud, but that caused duplicate events
I tried only using MacBook & iPod Touch for sycing with iCloud and then directly syncing from my iPod with USB to my desktop, but it stopped syncing (later I found that my cord needed to be replaced, but I'm not sure if that was the problem - I was still dealing with some duplicate events, too)
I decided to stop using iCloud (I can do without using my iCal on my MacBook if there's no ideal solution to sync all 3 without duplications or other problems) and now my iPod Touch syncs well with my desktop for most items, but not all
I think my desktop thinks the events that are syncing have already been synced because they were in the past. The one that was important that I missed today, which is on my desktop (a repeating event) but is no longer on my iPod Touch, refuses to sync to my desktop. There may be more that I haven't noticed.
I thought maybe I could wipe my iPod Touch calendar and then sync my desktop to my iPod Touch, but I'm afraid that it might wipe my desktop as I don't know how to tell it to only go one way in syncing rather than acting as if it's a new program.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Be sure you've set your iPod to the correct time zone (ie, same as your computer). If you're on the East Coast it's three hours ahead of Apple HQ's time zone. A 5:00pm appointment in New York is at 2:00pm to someone using a Californian clock. Make sure your Touch isn't a Californian clock.

  • IPod touch connection problem!

My iPod touch no longer appears in iTunes when it is connected to the computer. I have tried to fix this problem in as many ways as I know but none of them have worked. So far, I've tried: Restarting my iPod, Downloading and installing the latest version of iTunes, using a different usb cable, using different usb ports, restarting my computer and stopping & starting the apple mobile device service. My iPod still charges when connected to my wall charger and the computer which I use (windows xp) still connects to my brothers iPod touch. I don't what the problem could be?! My iPod is 1 & 1/2 years old, but still works perfectly fine apart from this issue. Can anyone help?

  • IOS 8.1 iPod touch 5 problems

I recently updated my iPod Touch 5th gen to iOS 8.1 and have found a few rather annoying problems.
    1) It now takes basically a whole day for my iPod to charge. I cannot use my iPod and charge it at the same time (or only on very low battery use apps), which I could before . The battery life has dropped pretty significantly. When I plug it in, it is extremely tempermental about being connected.
    2) I added some new songs to iTunes and it took over fifteen tries over a three day period to get it to sync my iPod.
    3) This one is very important as much as extremely annoying. When I start typing on the Internet, Safari will freeze up and stop working.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problems? Has anyone found any solutions?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod Touch Internet Problems

My iPod Touch connects to my wi-fi but the internet does not work. I've tried forgetting the network and re-entering the password, I've updated all software, I've reset network settings, and I've also restored my ipod touch to factory settings to see if that would help. As of now, none of that has fixed the issue.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You may not really be connected to your network.
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. To check on this go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Restarting your router by removing power to it for 30 seconds and restarting it may get around this problem. If this doesn't work then check for a firmware update for your router on the manufacturer's support web page.
If you need more help please give the make, model and version of your router and how you have it configured.

hi, i have forgotton my password for my ipod touch and it has now disabled to the point where i have to connect to itunes. my problem is, i would like to keep my data on my ipod, however i know that i may have to erase it all. • IPod touch sync problem with iCal

My iPod touch (3th gen) doesn't sync any new appointment with iCal anymore (and vice versa). He only sync the older appointments, even when replacing all data from iCal to the iPod. I think the problem started since installing OS X Lion. I do not work with MobileMe, but directly via iTunes. How can I solve this problem?

Did you try to click either "all" or "selected"? If you click "selected" you need also to click on the different calenders that you set up. For example, if you have djm027 calender (that is calender for yourself), another calender for sister, another calender for your brother and so forth. You need to click them all if you want to be seem on your iPod Touch. And if you only want yours then you just click djm027. I am not sure if this help. This is how I fix the problem myself.

  • IPhone SDK with iPod Touch 2G problem

I installed the SDK last night but when I went to plug in my iPod Touch 2G, I got the error message: 'Unable to locate a suitable developer disk image. Please re-install the SDK'
I have reinstalled the SDK many times but still get the same error message. Any help appreciated.

    {quote}He's talking about the iPod Touch, not a regular iPod{quote}
Yep, I know. Do a Google search for "Unable to locate a suitable developer disk image". Found this on the comments of [this blog post|http://www.tbradford.org/2008/03/iphone-sdk-beta-2-possible-ppc-fix.html]:
    {quote}
If anyone else runs into the "Unable to locate a suitable developer disk image." problem, there's a package called "DeveloperDiskImage" in the iPhone SDK that needs to be installed.
As of 2.1, these are the extra packages that you need to install manually:
    iPhoneSDKHeadersAndLibs
    iPhoneSimulatorPlatform
    iPhoneHostSideTools
    iPhoneDocumentation
    DeveloperDiskImage

    Another [blog post|http://khakionion.blogspot.com/2008/09/iphone-sdk-21-doesnt-include-ipod-t ouch.html#links] says:
    {quote}
The problem is that the huuuuuge iPhone SDK 2.1 installer doesn't come with the iPod touch 2.1 firmware image. Suck. Fear not, though: All you have to do is force iTunes to do a firmware restore, which will download the appropriate image. On next launch, Xcode will find it and everything will work great.

  • IPod Touch Screen Problem (Push notifications)

I have an iPod touch 4th Generation. Recently it has been doing this thing where whenever i receive push notifications or popups (such as a notification from facebook)the sides of the notification get lines and then they go away. This also happens sometimes when i'm downloading something and the lines appear on the circular load (on the top beside the signal strength)
    Has anyone had this problem?
    HELP?!?!!?

I have recently noticed the same problem with my ipod Touch 4th Gen too. It has been doing this periodically the last 2 weeks. Could it be a result of the recent iPod software update?
Each time I get a push notification my screen gets a bit garbled or rips up on the blue notification box. White lines or screen "rips" are how I describe it. Goes away once you touch the screen and do something. It's a bit annoying and I hope it's just a software problem cause otherwise the hardware seems to be working. It's just happening on push notifications or recharging. Anyway that's what I've been noticing so you guys are not alone. I bought my iPod Touch 4 in November of 2010 so I hope it's not crapping out already.

  • IPod touch serious problem

I was just 5 mins ago using my iPod when I realised the wifi wasn't working so I decided to reboot it. I have a jailbroken ipod so I was able to just tap the reboot toggle from the NC. It was rebooting like it usually should be when the apple logo came up and went away just like it does when you first activate your iPod touch. After that the big iPod sign did come up with slide to set up. It won't even let me set it up again because the activation thingy is down so don't bother telling me to do that. Anyway I then tried connecting the usb cable. But every time I do that it just resprings but goes back to the activation thing.
iTunes won't recognize my iPod so I can't restore anything.
    What do I do?

    poninaine wrote:
Lol, sorry but the fact that it's jailbroken is most definitely not the problem.
Believe what you want, but it does not change the truth.  Your iPod is NFG because it is jail broken, and because your iPod is jail broken, the members of this community and Apple are under NO obligation to help you.
