Ipod touch rejects correct password for home wifi/router

My ipod touch can get unsecured wifi ok (sometimes, which is another discussion) but when I set up a Linksys wireless router at home, my laptop is able to use the wireless but the ipod touch sees the router's name, but rejects the correct password. (I did doublecheck the password by going into the IP address for the Linksys.) Why would my ipod touch not be able to access my own secured network when using the correct password? So I spent some time with Linksys on the telephone and they had me put a long number that they saw in the wireless security tab into the password line. Now there is a check beside my router's name, but I get the message "Safari cannot open the page" when I try to surf. The error was: Operation could not be completed. Invalid argument". I tried a couple more apps (Weather channel, google map, facebook) and the time circle just keeps going around. Why is my ipod touch not working, here?

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Brand new iPod touch will not connect to home wifi

Monday I got a brand new iPod 4 to replace my previous one, as the home button had failed unexpectedly. The new iPod is working fine, running the latest iOS but when I try to connect our secure home wifi, it won't accept the password. We have reset the password and I've reset network settings. I'm so frustrated, because everything else connects to the wifi BUT my iPod will not take our correct password. What can I do? Should I take it back to Apple? I'm already annoyed by having to get a new iPod. The last one connected just fine but now this one won't.

  • My Ipod Touch will only search for available Wifi networks for a second then stop, and it will never find any networks anywhere.

OK I own the 1st generation Ipod touch and granted I bought it used and its pretty old, but the Wifi doesnt work at all. When I click on the checkmark box it turns on and it looks like its trying to find a connection, but it only tries for one second (literally) and then stops trying to look for a connection. It wont bring up any connection to choose from no matter where I go, it wont find one connection. Please help me this thing is driving me insane. I was told it could be a bad IP address, and that there is a way to get a new one. But How? I already reset it and restored it and nothing seems to fix it. So now I dont know what to do with it now.

So you also rebooted your router correct?  Does the iPod still connect okay to other networks?

  • How do I get my iPhone 5 to recognize the correct password for my wifi connection?

All of a sudden, my iPhone dropped my WiFi connection and now will no longer connect when I choose "other," and enter the network name and password. I receive the message, "Incorrect password for *******." My iMac and 2 iPads have no trouble remaining connected to my WiFi network.

    Howdy msmedia,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.
From your post I see that your iPhone dropped the Wi-Fi connection to your network, and it cannot find the network, nor join it if you manually type in the SSID.  To start troubleshooting this issue, I'd like you to please follow the steps outlined below.
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
TapSettings > Wi-Fiand turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
TapSettings > Wi-Fiand locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    TapandForget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your deviceto the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Unable to locate a Wi-Fi network
Verify that the network is available by tappingSettings > Wi-Fiand choosing from the available networks.Note:It may take a few seconds for the Wi-Fi network name to appear.
Move closer to your wireless router (access point) and attempt to locate the Wi-Fi network.
If you do not see the network you would like to join, you may be attempting to connect to a hidden network. Learnhow to join a hidden network.
Supported Wi-Fi configurations vary by iOS device model. Find outwhich standardsyour device supports3.
Reset network settings by tappingSettings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.Note:This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network
Verify that you're attempting to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Make sure you're entering your Wi-Fi password correctly. Passwords may be case sensitive and may contain numbers or special characters.
Reset network settings by tappingSettings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.Note:This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories

  • TS3276 Mac Mail rejecting correct password for incoming only

My e mail has suddenly started rejecting my password even though it is correct. I can send but cannot receive e mail. This has never happened before but I have no incoming messages on either my Mac or my iphone.

Something seems amiss if both your Mac and iPhone starting having this problem at the same time. Was anything changed in anyway?
Are you sure the outgoing mail is going to the correct server?

  • Firewall setting for Home Wifi Router

Got a quick question, Checking my wifi routers firewall, i see it is set to "NAT only", but gives me option for Low, medium and High.
As my Macbook's firewall is turned OFF is the NAT only setting on the router ok?
I mean if i go to a public place, i'd turn the firewall on, on the macbook, but this is my personal home wifi.
    Thanks

I don't use MTN Lion, but on Lion I keep my set to "block all incoming connections". I would set it at the sturdiest that will allow you to cnnect to the internet, unless you need to go computer to computer in your home network. I would then turn it to the max after I was done doing that.  Just my opinion, I'm sure there are plenty of peope who will give you other advice on this site, and they could be right.   ATB

  • Ipod touch won't connect to home wifi?

the wifi was working fine until yesterday and now the connection won't even show up even though it works fine on my laptop. i've tried turning the ipod off and on, i've tried resetting the router, i've tried resetting the network settings on the ipod, still nothing. i can't do the thing where you hold down the power button and the home button because the power button is broke and the home button is almost broken as well. please help!!!

I have the same problem. I tried restart, restore software (even though it is brand new!), reset network settings, restarted modem + router. All my other non-Apple wifi connection are perfectly fine. Just the same message: "UNABLE TO JOIN THE NETWORK".

    More detail needed....
For example, a domain isn't authenticated, a user is authenticated. Are you saying that ALL users for one domain can not authenticate? Has it ever worked? Have you changed anything? What do the logs show? Is the user ID entered in the POP client a valid short name for the user in WGM? Is mail enabled for the user?
Please post details if you want help.

  • How to I find out the correct password for wifi ipod?

I had to reset my ipod to get rid of the waiting apps that had dl. When I did that I tried to go into the internet but says the password is wrong. I've gone into my router and reset the password used it still says wrong password. I have no idea how to get the correct password for the wifi or where to look.  TIA mary

Find the name and model number of the router and go to the manufacturer's support site and download the manual.  It will tell you what the default password is.  Sometimes the default passwoard is written on the router.

If you are sure that your password is correct try restarting your router by removing power to it for 30 seconds and restarting. On your iPod go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings. Now try to connect.
