  • IPod Touch restore fail. Error codes 2009   1611. Help?

My iPod began being unresponsive as soon as I detached it from my docking stations, but if I plug it back in to either of them, it works totally fine. I tried to update the iPod, and restore it to original factory settings, but I kept getting error code 2009. I followed Apple's suggestion, (plugging it into a different USB port, and having it be the only USB connected), and then I got error code 1611.  Everything with my computer is up-to-date and working, and the same for my iTunes. Anyone have any answers for me?! Please?!

If you tried all of the suggestions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
I would try going to a different computer and restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and then gong back to your computer to sync it.

  • New Ipod Touch 64GB failed due to freezing Itunes upgrade

I uninstalled itunes to attempt to re-install version 10.2 as required for my new Ipod. Each time it freezes at 10% Prior to this, all other Ipods were funstioning properly. Mssg read iTunes64setup.exe fails---always at 10%.
System restore was ineffective as well. My entire library si, of course, gone.
How can I get Itunes re-installed? I have never had a problem before and have dozens of movies, books and music. Any guidance is appreciated. Thought I would check with some better experienced people before I really screw things up even more. Is it possible that all my purchases are now gone forever?
    Thank you in advance, shel

If the iPod came with iOS 5 you can activae/set it up via wif.  From the Users Guide:
    Setting up iPod touch
To set up and activate iPod touch, just turn it on and follow the onscreen instructions that step
you through the setup process, including:
    Connecting to a Wi-Fi network

Signing in with or creating a free Apple ID
    Â
    Setting up iCloud
    Â
Turning on recommended features such as Location Services and Find My iPod
    Â
    Activating iPod touch
    Â
If not iOS 5 you ned to connect it to a computer with internet access and iTunes.

  • Error (14) and (9) during iPod Touch Restore process

I am getting the following error when trying to restore my iPod Touch in iTunes:
"The iPod, "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14)."  Sometimes I also get error code (9) as well.
I have the latest version of iTunes and have tried 2 different cables and 2 different computers.
    All security software is up-to-date.
This all started a few days ago when my iPod would just freeze, then the main light would flash and it would shut itself off.
I then tried to do the restore process within iTunes.
Now, whenever I connect my iPod, I get the following message:
iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.
When I click 'OK", I will get the option to "Restore".  I then begin the restore process.
    First it says:  Extracting Software
Then it says: Preparing iPod for Restore
Then it says: Verifying iPod restore with Apple
Then it says: Waiting for iPod
Then it says: Preparing iPod software for restore...
Then the iPod flashes and resets itself and I get one of the two error codes (9 or 14).
There are lots of articles up here with the same issue but no resolution...has anyone ever found one?

  • New iPod Touch: restore WIFI settings

I got a second iTouch and have successfully restored it from a backup of the previous one, but that didn't restore any WIFI configurations. Is that expected?
Is there any way I can either get those configurations copied over or at least see the previous passwords so I can re-key them? I'd much prefer to copy the configurations over since some of the passwords are a major pain to key, but I'd settle for anything at this point.

Restore one iDevice from the backup of another iDevice copies everything to the target device (if they are the same type of device) except keychain items like passwords. Thus, you will have to reenter the keychain item on the target iPod. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
"Keychain (this includes email account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords you enter into websites and some other applications. If you encrypt the backup with iOS 4 and later, the keychain information is transferred to the new device. With an unencrypted backup, the keychain can only be restored to the same iPhone or iPod touch. If you are restoring to a new device with an unencrypted backup, you will need to enter these passwords again.)"

  • New iPod Touch - restore from backup of (2nd gen?) iPod touch

Am buying the new iPod Touch w/additional features - camera, hi-res, quicker processor, etc. - than the (2nd) Gen Touch which I bot June 2009. Run on iMac, all software currently "up-to-date" - want to just transfer over all of my apps, music, data (within iPod apps), MobileMe links, Mail links, etc - from old device to new device. I'd also like to "wipe" the old device in order to give it to someone else without giving them access to my information. Anyone out there give me a "link" to get instructions on this? When I do my own searches in "support manuals" - I get a ton of non-applicable links....

    Backup and restore:

Erase all content and settings is covered in the manual as well as backup and restore:

  • Ipod Touch Restore Question

To those who have had to restore their ipod touch:
I am currently in restore mode in itunes and I have the Status bar labeled "Restoring iPod from backup" on the screen after I chose to restore from my last sync.
Anyhow, the status bar was trucking right along until it got to about 98% finished and now the status bar has parked, just stopped with about 2% left to go.
Is this normal? It has been this way for about 45 minutes.
By the way, I had to restore because it crashed while downloading an app from mobile itunes.

That is not normal. Can you restore without using the backup? The backup only saves settings such as email accounts and brightness etc.

  • Help with iPod Touch restore

My computer shut down while updating my iPod touch to iOS 4.3.2 and now I'm trying to restore my iPod with the backup but my computer doesn't have enough memory space and iTunes says the backup could not be saved on the disc (I think iTunes compresses the backup). Is there anyway I could save/extract it to my portable hard drive? Any other suggestions on how to restore the to my iPod without using 6+ GB of space? Also, what does restoring from backup restore? Thanks in advance.
*Edit: Sorry, I'm using PC. How do you move this to Syncing your iPod touch to a PC?

    Welcome to the discussions,
if your PC shut down during the update, the backup created by iTunes might be damaged. Try to delete the latest backup in the list in iTunes/Preferences/Devices. If you have more than one backup listed, copy the whole backup folder to an external HD or USB drive, in case you might need the data again.
The backup folder is located here: Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
You might also try to delete the ipod software file located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates, to make iTunes download a new copy when you connect in recovery mode. Maybe the file stored on your PC is damaged as well due to the shut down.
Recovery mode is covered here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • IPOD Touch Restore Issue!!!

When I turned on my relatively new ipod touch yesterday, it had the itunes logo with a docking cord picture on the screen. I plugged it in to itunes and it stated "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode....". Ok, that I can deal with. I hit restore and then it states I have to restore and update software. OK, that is fine as well. It is downloading iPod touch software 1.1.4. It states that it will automatically restore after the software had downloaded. I have downloaded this software at least 6 times, and it states it is fully downloaded, but then the download box disappears and the restore does not happen. When I hit restore again, it downloads the software all over again... I am SO VERY frustruated! Have any suggestions????!!!!

    Hey Mary Beth,
Try "Deleting the restore files" as described on this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307219
Also make sure the iPod touch is plugged directly into the PC and not into a hub, monitor, or keyboard. http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1286
If the iTunes still will not restore the iPod try restoring in another user account as described in the first article.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • How can I fix error 14 in my iPod Touch restore?

When I try to restore and update my iPod Touch, appears Error 14 in my iTunes interface. How can I fix that error?

Error 13 and 14: These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer
    - Lastm, go to an Apple store.
