Ipod touch second generation, ios 5

I have an ipod touch second generation, I need something that will help me download apps! It says I need ios 5 but ios 5 doesn't work on the second generation. Someone help!

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
You can only download the current version from the Apple app store.

  • IPod touch second generation 4.2

I have the old and outdated iPod touch second generation with the 4.2 on it and I currently only have the apps that come with it when it's at it's factory setting, and I would like to know how I can get apps that are supported for this operating system without going through the app store and clicking on every app until I find one that will work. Now I do know that's it's considered old but surely there is some way to get apps on this device. I mainly got this to put music, videos, and pictures on and I can do that through iTunes. However, I would like to maybe put Facebook, craigslist, free texting, and possibly a few game apps on my iPod simply because I hate bouncing back and fourth on my phone from text messaging to my Facebook or games or whatever else I may be doing.. Thanks for reading and hopefully I'll get some responses that will be able to help me out

No dice. There are not that many god apps that currently available for the 2G iPod. There is also no way to search only for compatible apps.
FB and a lot of other good apps require iOS 4.3 or greater.

While restoring my iPod Touch second generation computer is turned off the screen goes black what do I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Touch Second Generation Can't, no.. Wont, Charge (the poor thing is trying)

    Hello friendly Apple Experts,
I recently had an unfortunate incident when my iPod touch third generation went for a swim. While we waited for it to recover I dug my old iPod touch second generation out of storage (when it was put it into storage it had been completely restored)
Initially it took several hours to even begin charging. It would go from Charging Logo --> Apple Logo (loading screen) --> Black Screen, and start over again. Eventually it was juiced up enough to get to the home screen. After this it reverted to it's normal three hours, or so, of charge time. At first it was running like it did when it was first bought, the battery life was still exceptional. So I synced it to iTunes and loaded it right up.
However, a few days later we dug the other iPod out of the rice and it seemed to be working just fine. So I began to use both, one for travel, the other for at home. Unfortunately the second generation one was put aside for about four weeks and the battery completely drained. Since I had initially rebooted the iPod it had not been completely drained again. At this point, it has been plugged in for several days and goes in a continuous loop of: Charge Logo --> Apple Logo --> Black Screen and then back again. And on yet another sad note, the battery life for the third generation one has been affected very negatively by its little dip.
To be honest I never wanted the third generation one to begin with, the only reason I bought it was because the second generation’s software became completely obsolete.
    Anyway, my questions are...
What has happened to my beloved Second Generation iPod touch?
Is there any way to fix it?
    and...
Is there anything I can do to prolong the life of the Third Generation device?
    Thanks so much,
    A friendly Apple consumer.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace your battery for less. Google for more.

Replace the battery yourself if you are up to it. Yo can purchase a replaement battery for about $10

  • IPod touch 5th generation iOS 8 update problem

I have an iPod touch 5th generation with 32GB. This morning I started the ios8 update. Everything was going fine for a while, but now it's like it's stuck. The bar indicating how close it is to being done is almost full, but it's been like that for hours. I can't turn it off or do anything else.
Even if it's because I don't have enough memory, shouldn't I be able to cancel it or something? I didn't have this problem with the last update so I have no idea what is going on or how to fix it.

  • Is there going to be another iPod touch 2 generation iOS update?, Is there going to be another iPod touch 2 generation iOS update?, Is there going to be another iPod touch 2 generation iOS update?

Is there going to be an iOS update for an iPod touch 2 generation?

Since we are all only end users like yourself, nobody here would know such information, and it's against the Terms of Use of these forums to discuss such things.
However, with that said, it's likely that the 4.2.1 update is the last the 2G iPod Touch will ever see, but again only Apple only knows.

  • IPod Touch Second Generation Problem

Hi everyone. I'm back with another question. A friend of mine has an iPod Touch 2nd Generation that is out of Applecare warranty. The backlight it broken- the screen is almost too dark to see, even in good light. He has tried adjusting brightness and contrast settings, but to no avail. How much would it cost for Apple to fix it and what other options are there?

Apple does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/
There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". Note, though, that if your friend elects to have the iPod serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further warranty will be void.
    Regards.

  • HT204266 What apps can I get that will work on an iPod Touch second generation?

Someone gave me a second generation iPod touch. It has some apps, but I want to know what else I can get for it??

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can install all apps compatible with iOS 4.2.1, but most of the apps need iOS 4.3, so there aren't a lot of apps that you can use on the device
