IPod touch slow performance

My iPod touch 8gb 4g is becoming pretty slow now, i have restored sevaral times but still is slow.
this is what happens: when i select a app from app store (e.g- angry birds, talking tom cat) there is no animation thatapperes when you select an app. Even with no apps in background and just been restored. is this normal or is something wrong with my ipod?
It is running firmware 4.3.5

When you restored, did you restory to factory defaults or from backup?  If only from backup, try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod.

Does IOS 5.1 improve iPod touch 4g performance?
I would consider upgrading it from ios5.0.1 to ios5.1 because ios 5.0.1 performance is terrible.

I just finished installing 5.1 on my iPod Touch 4g and it is markedly improved. I do still note some of the keyboard slowness (I'm using it right now to type this), but it is much faster overall. In particular, it used to take a long time to unlock if it was playing music, and now there is no lag.
I've only had it installed for half an hour so far, but I'm already much happier using it than I was previously.

  • Speed up iPod touch's performance

Just overnight, I've realised significant drop in my iPod touch's performance while playing games. Games that used to run perfectly smooth now 'lag', which makes the games unplayable. I don't remember doing anything different to my iPod, it was just one day 'fine', the next day 'not fine'. I've restored my iPod, and before I play a game I go into airplane mode, close all running apps in the background, and restart the iPod, but the game still does not run as well as it used to just a few days ago.
Any suggestions on how to improve the speed?

Take off unecesary apps, movies, music etc you no longer use that will speed it up considerably
I assume that you're using an 8GB 2nd gen (there is no 8GB 3rd Gen) since speed is a problem

  • Ipod touch slow internet

the internet on my 3rd gen ipod touch is really slow. the safari works fine but youtube and other online apps are super slow i dont know if this caused it but i recently purchased download manager and used it with a1own .com

You can also try using OpenDNS, a free service for all. Go into your router's settings and enter the two OpenDNS addresses:
    208.62.220.220, and
    208.62.222.222
Rather than using your ISP's DNS (domain name service, what translates web addresses to IP addresses), this routes your browsing through OpenDNS. It may help or it may not speed things up for you, but it is very easy (and free) to try, and there's no risk or obligation. If nothing else it is a great service that lets you filter out certain traffic on your network (e.g. drugs, violence, ***********, etc.)
If you do this, you will have to make your Touch forget your network, then re-connect it and re-enter your passphrase. Alternatively you could edit the Touch's settings to enter the DNS addresses once you enter them into router's settings.

  • IPod Touch battery performance

I just recently updated to the 2.0 software for my iPod Touch. After installing and trying out a few apps, I didn't use my iPod for a couple days. Although I didn't have it OFF, I've let it idle for over a week before and the battery still had juice to spare. Well, the other day I went to use it and it had died from a low battery before I even picked it up.
There was about a half to three quarter charge when I had last used it. I bought it at the end of March and have used it lightly, so the battery is still practically new. So I am curious- does every app that you use stay open in the background until you turn off the iPod? And if so, does this mean that my battery is constantly being drained by apps Im not necessarily using at that moment? Kind of like how Dashboard uses the processor and extra memory in the background even when it isn't pulled up on the screen?
If this is the case, is there any way to shut down an app when I am done using it (other than rebooting my iPod)?
    Thanks for your help!

I finding the same thing man. got my touch back today after sending it to apple after trying to install the 2.0 fiasco, now my batter doesnt last. might have to send it in again.....
the apps might still be on in the background, but i know for a fact that facebook does not run. onse you go out of facebook, even if you dont hit logout, you logout...

  • Ipod touch slow backup / sync

    Hi all,
I search many posts in Google and this forum and found that the problem is common to many people. Any solution which is effective right now?
I am using Windows 7 64bit with iPod Touch 3.1.2
    Thanks!

If it is a larger capacity iPod, it will take a long time to back up. You could switch to iCloud backup if you have iOS 5 or later. This way it backs up to the cloud automatically.

  • IPod touch slow with problems

So I got my iPod touch (fifth-generation, 64GB) back in 2013. I dropped it in water, so I traded it in at an Apple Store for a new iPod touch. Ever since updating the iPod to iOS 8, it's been having multiple problems, including: General unresponsiveness for up to 30 seconds; crashing, failing to properly execute basic animations, and lagging when doing pretty much anything; dropped frame rate during animations; random freezing, sometimes up to 10 minutes of it, even when locked, until iPod reboots; excessively long reboot out of previously mentioned freezing, sometimes up to 15 minutes; etc.
Usually when I pick it up, it says that I have to enter the passcode because iPod restarted, and it'll be disconnected from all Wifi. This is a problem, especially if it gets stolen.
Any recommendations for what I can do to stop this? Is this behavior normal for fifth-generation iPod touches? Or am I stuck with it?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Ipod touch slow updates

Why do ipod touch updates now take about 10 minutes each?

If you are talking about app updates then an network or server problem..

  • New Ipod touch slowed, then crashed. What now?

My new Touch has been working fine for about a month. Tonight without any apparent cause it slowed drastically and became nearly unresponsive for a few (maybe ten) minutes, then crashed entirely! Now all I see is a "loading" icon, overlaid above an "apple" icon. Help?!? Can't I even reboot this thing or anything? Agh!

  • IPod Touch is slow

My iPod currently using iOS 5 because I don't have any problems about my battery but my real concern is that. What makes the iPod Touch Slow?

Like most iOS updates, especial major ones like iOS 5, the added features make the iPod respond slower.

  • IPod touches don't connect to home network

For some time, the two iPod touches in our household have had trouble connecting to our home network.  There have been no problems with other networks. We have a cable modem connected to a Time Capsule, which creates the network, with no extenders or bridges.  Our other Macs, two Macbooks and an iMac, have no problem whatsoever connecting. The iPod touches have performed variably getting connected, sometimes appearing to be connected, but slow, sometimes "Unable to join the network".  The problem improved for a while, after trying all of the things suggested in the support documents and communities, and resetting the Time Capsule, recreating the network with a new name and password.
In the last few days the iPod Touches have completely stopped connecting to the network again.  Even the name of the network only shows up sporadically to attempt entering the password. There is no connection with or without the WPA2 Personal security on. One thing that might be related is that when I look at System Profiler>Network>Airport there are sometimes two networks listed with my network's name, one under "Current Network" and one under "Other Local Wireless Networks".  Interestingly, they are on different channels. The Current network is on "149,1" and the other is on "3". Occasionally I can see neighbors' networks, with much worse signal/noise ratios as one would suspect, so I'm not too suspicious of interference from that source although the channels are always single digit ones there. My understanding from my reading in the support documents is that the iPods connect only at 2.4GHz, which would be the single digit channels.  I did try changing the channel width to 20MHz instead of 40MHz once, and that didn't seem to make a difference, so I changed it back.  Otherwise, all is set as per this document:   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Can anyone help?

I decided it was time to take the Time Capsule and one of the iPods to the local Mac Store, for repair of the Time Capsule.  Everything worked fine!  I came back home and rechecked the home for all the things in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365  and once again found none.
The Mac technician's suggeston was to try specifying the channel, as opposed to letting the Time Capsule automatically choose the "best" one.  It worked!  (I chose channel 8, since I had not seen it used by my networks or neighbors' when I looked in System Profiler.)
Just adding this post in case it helps someone else.

  • Why did iOS 5 make my brand new iPod Touch so slow?

Recently downloaded the new iOS which, by the way, took nearly an entire night due to connection failure with host.  Since then my iPod has been almost glitchy.  I keep my apps pretty clean.  I don't have a lot.  And when I'm done with one I close it with the hold+home and "x" it down.  However, still the new iOS runs slow.  Will there be a new release coming soon with some bug fixes?

You may want to try a few things to try and deduce the problem:
    1. back up your iPod touch with iTunes
    2. remove an app that you suspect may be large or makes heavy use of background work (some apps may use the network a lot via the background scheduling services of iOS)
    3. reboot, then repeat 2 until the problem disappears (you can blame the last app that you removed!)
    4. if the problem does not disappear, try a restore to factory settings.
The iPod touch has limited working memory (half, in fact) compared to an iPhone 4(S) or iPad 2.  While iOS should be able to handle these memory conditions gracefully, it also depends on how well apps respond to shutting down when iOS tells them to.  Stubborn or rather large apps can cause the performance of your iPod to degrade momentarily until memory congestion settles.

  • Upgraded iPod Touch to v2.2.1, but feels slow/sluggish.

    Hello.
I just upgraded my client's two years(?) old iPod Touch to v2.2.1 tonight on his MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.5.8 with all updates). He hasn't updated its software for about a year or so he said, and this version was free. He also hasn't synchronized his iPod Touch for a year too (crazy, I know). Anyways, the upgrade and synchronizations were successful, but iPod Touch feels slower/sluggish like in e-mails, Safari, etc.
Is this normal? We didn't try reverting back to defaults. Thank you in advance.

Thanks. I forgot to mention that this is an older model that doesn't have 3G. Only wireless for Internet access. And I forgot to follow-up too. It seems OK now. It was weird right after the upgrade and using it, everything felt slower and sluggish. Everything still seems to be still intact and working though.
If it happens again, then I will try your ideas.

I don't recall seeing reduced performance from 2.2.1, in fact I've reverted my 2G Touch back to 2.2.1 from 4.0. Have you tried the basics like:
    o Power OFF/ON
    o Reset
    o Restore from backup
o Restore as a new iPod
Start with the higher steps first to see if you get better performance.

  • IPod touch w/2.0.1 update-keyboard and system slow to respond after update

The keyboard is slow to open and lags severely when typing inside the notes app. Overall system performance is now slower since update to 2.0.1. namely lag when an app is touched to open it.

I had the same problem with my ipod touch... What is happening with the 2.0.1 update???

  • Why is my internet so slow on my iPod Touch?

Okay, I'm very irritated by the performance of my Ipod Touch generation 4's internet browsing.  I don't know what the problem is!  I'm currently using my home wireless internet, and it's very strong (According to the wi-fi icon on the top of the computer desktop, it's at its highest potential, and we have a strong internet connection.)  Which brings me to my next question, why is my Ipod Touch sooo slow?  It's been happening for more than 2 months now, and I can't access Pandora, Facebook, Safari..nothing!  The quality is getting really bad! And whats really aggravating about this WHOLE thing, is the fact that I take good care of my itouch!  And I know this because, whenever i want to slam it on the wall, or crack it in half, or give any harmful gesture to my ipod, i RESTRAIN myself and wait when the "loading" sign is taking a little too long, or when the pop up sign comes out and declares it's not working.  I try my BEST to be paitent with my ipod touch, and yet my internet is not showing any gratitude.  Right now, I'm so frustrated and I just want to know... WHY!!!
P.S I DO upgrade and Recover whenever I connect it to my iTunes/Computer.
