IPod Touch - Some Apps can't connect

This iPod Touch 4g is my first Apple product in over 15 years.
It connects flawlessly on my work network.  All apps function as advertised.  But on my home wireless router, it's a different story.
It seems to do just fine establishing a connection to my home wireless network.  But some apps work while others do not.  And some websites are reachable in Safari while others are not.
Things that work (kinda):
Mail (works about 60% of the time)
MyRadar (again, usually works, but seems inconsistent).
Safari can reach google.com, but that's about it.
Things that don't work (or work only rarely):
Weather
App Store
Safari cannot consistently reach any website other than Google.  Cannot connect to Apple.com.  My other wireless computers at home connect to these websites easily, so it appears to be a problem with the iTouch or how it's connecting to the router.
A possibly relevant clue:
My in-laws brought their MacBooks a few months ago, and I was unable to get them a consistent connection.  This was my first attempt at connecting Apple products to my network.  One MacBook wouldn't connect at all.  The other forever to connect, and then seemed very slow.
I was using a Belkin N router.  Thinking that may be the probem, I bought a Cisco 2500.  This has made little-to-no difference.  (Glad I went with the discounted factory refurbished version, because now I've got two routers with roughly the same capabilities.)
I tried moving the router further away from our wireless phone base unit (which uses 1.9 Ghz).  This made no difference.
I've reached the end of my knowledge and have stepped off into superstition and guessing.  Any help from knowledgable folk would be greatly appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Try the following settings:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page). Here is the link for determining and setting up the correct MTU size: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=fbf8e8564632422eaa8ea80bf9dcba64_386.xml&pid=80&re...
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • IPod touch 2G iOS4 can't connect to iTunes or App Store

Since updating my 2G iPod touch to iOS4, I have been unable to connect to iTunes or the App Store. The device can connect to my wifi and Safari works, albeit significantly slower than before, but when I try connecting to either iTunes or the App Store, all that appears is the word 'loading'.
None of the settings on my router have changed from before the update and I have tried rebooting, restoring the device and the router but nothing has worked.
I have not been able to confirm whether this happens on a different wifi network as of yet but I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same problems.

I've having a problem connecting to Itunes or the App Store from my Ipod Touch. I have a good wifi connection and am able to access webpages thru safari but when I try to go to Itunes it won't connect. I went to the settings>Store>tap sign in and entered my itunes sign-on info but it tells me it can't connect. In reading some of the help topics it says when you go into Store it should automatically show your account name after syncing with Itunes on your computer but mine doesn't show that. It just says not signed in.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPod Touch disabled and can't connect to iTunes?

My iPod touch 4th gen has been fully disabled so that it says 'connect to iTunes'. But when I do that, it says I need to unlock my iPod first, which I can't do because my iPod is disabled. What do I do? Also, I don't want to restore my iPod because I don't have some data backed up. Thanks.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. You have no other choise. In the future make sure you frequently backup your iPod.

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar.
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

  • Ipod Touch-WIFI Problems-Can't Connect More than One at Same time

I'm not an Ipod Touch user yet, but three family members are. Unfortunately, only one will connect to the Internet on our home wifi at a time. Each one works just fine on its own and will make the connection, but if one is already turned on it blocks the others. I have a laptop and it connects fine regardless of the Ipod Touch issues. I'm using a Linksys router if that matters. Looked everywhere but can't find someone experiencing similar issues. Thanks for any ideas/thoughts/help!

Take a look at your router's settings for DHCP. Normally there is range associated for the allocation of IP addresses for wireless devices. For example, you would set DHCP to on, IP address range from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.128. The normal defaults on the router should have given you an adequate range of address but you may have inadvertently changed something.

  • Ipod touch 1st generation can't connect to my linksys wireless router wr110. THe signal is strong and there is a check mark beside my network name, but when I try to open safari it says "unable to find server".

My friends MacBook connected easily to my wireless, but why not the ipod touch? When prompted for "Password" I enter the security key info and nothing, nadda....zip.  The MacBook asks for the "Security Key" info not "Password", like the touch. What's the difference?

Click on the blue arrow to the right of the network name, if IP address starts with "169." ,restart your router. It should connect properly after your router reboots in a minute or two.

  • I have a 4th gen iPod touch and I can not connect to the Internet even though my iPad works and my computer let's me get into the Internet. It gives me a message cannot to server. Please help I have tried to reset it but that does not work

I have a iPod touch 4th gen. And I cannot get into the Internet I get a message that say cannot connect to server. The other computer and my iPad still work with the Internet . I have reeked to reset it but that does not work. Please help me.

I do not know wat "reeked to reset" means.
    Try the following:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Power off and then on your router.
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • I have a new 4th gen ipod touch and it won't connect to itunes

running window XP, SP 3, itunes 10.5.2.42 (or whatever is the latest version out yesterday)?  Went through trouble shooting with apple support. Uninstalled itunes, reinstalled, checked that the apple device driver is installed and set to automatic.  Computer recognizes ipod in my computer as a camera but not connection to itunes.  ipod nano connects, no problem. So is it the operating system of the ipod touch?  Running Avast antivirus and Spybot Search & Destroy. Its pointless to keep the ipod touch if I can't connect it to itunes.  Any suggestions?

    - Have you tried disabling Avast and Spybot?
    - Have yu tried everthing here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - Do you have another computer to try to help determine if it is a computer or iPod problem?
    - The Nano uses a different iOS so it not a good comparison.

  • Lost address book for iPod Touch. How can I get back data or app or both?

I forget what is was called but the built-in Contacts/Address Book app jumped off my 2nd generation (bought 31 Dec 2009) iPod Touch one day.
I connected to iTunes hoping to get it back with all my data from the back-up, but because iTunes was set to automatic sync it synced when I connected and over-rode the last back-up with a new one, so without any contact app or data.
When I investigated back-up on iTunes I was only offered the back-up which had just been made, ie no contact app or data.
Is there any way that I can reload at least the empty app without doing a re-set?
I don't want to do a re-set because although I will get back the empty app I will lose all my 20+ other 3rd party apps and all the data that some of them contain,
As well as that - since I cannot update the OS - the version of each that I can run (for OS 4) will almost certainly have vanished from iTunes because most apps have been developed now for OS 5 and finding the old version in iTunes is very cumbersome. As far as I can see I have to browse them all in the date order they were released, with no search facility.
I have to have an address book. I have been unable to find a 3rd party one that will run under OS 4, so it looks as if I will have to use NoteMaster, with contacts in A/Z order by surname, with one or more lines for each depending on whether I have phone number, mobile number, email address, postal address etc.  It's possible, but a poor substitute for a proper address book.
I would be very grateful for any help with this, and hope that the Apple address book app or a 3rd party address book app for 4.2.1 is available.
    Alan

  • If i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it as the option 'set up as new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos and ect?

if i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it to the option 'set up as a new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and log into my apple ID so i can just restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos, contacts, ect. and then later i can add contacts that i need/want instead of them restoring them from icloud?
The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...
and i hope you understand my problem..
i would REALLY REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me a solution to my problem!!! thank you so much!
    -sierra

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
