IPod Touch stuck in DFU mode

I used Grayd00r on my iPod Touch 3G and now it's stuck in a loop where the apple logo comes on & then a spinning wheel. The computer recognizes the iPod but I can't restore it or reset it. Is the iPod Touch completely bricked?

  • TS1538 Ipod Touch stuck in DFU mode, not recognized in itunes after 1602 error restoring.

I've tried all of the: Hold Power button and Home items. It's plugged into the computer, screen is black. Windows sees the apple mobile device driver under devices and hardware. The driver's properties says it's in DFU mode. It was constatnly stuck in Recovery mode showing the CD+music note icon and the 30-pin connector image. Connecting the ipod to the computer, windows makes the connection sound but itunes does not open. Opening itunes, ipod is not recognized.
    It's a gen 1 touch, version 2.? firmware, I think.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • IPod Touch stuck in DFU mode, broken lock button, will not connect to computer.

I have an iPod 4g running on iOS 6.1.6. The lock button has been broken for little over a year now. But yesterday, my iPod went into DFU mode and will not connect to my computer whatsoever. I have tried everything that Apple tells you to do to try and fix this issue like restarting AMDS, reinstalling iTunes, and even the USB Driver. Nothing has worked, and I would really like some help with this. Thank you very much!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Ignore the reset and when it says place the iPod in recovery mode
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:

  • New iPod Touch stuck in recovery mode during initial setup

I am trying to set-up my daughter's new iPod touch 5th Gen. When you try to connect to iTunes message says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes". Even when you disconnect from computer it is stuck on screen telling you to connect USB to computer.  Two of her friends also got this iPod for Christmas and are having the same problem...during initial set-up. I've tried the system updates 3 times. iTunes recognizes the device, but the computer is not recognizing it as a drive. I've tried both my Mac and my Windows PC.  I've tried hard resets.  You can't remap the drive because the device doesn't show up. Most of the apple support topics address if iTunes doesn't recognize the device in conjunction with it not being recognized by the drive.  Obviously a problem with the new update because several brand new iPod touches wouldn't be having the same problem. Please help if you've found a solution. Happy New Years!

See if placing the iPod in DFU mode will allow a restore.

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

  • IPod Touch stuck in recovery mode

I have the original iPod touch and recently got the newest one (with the new usb) for Christmas. My car can only use the old usb hookup so I use it to listen to music. I plugged it in and it was updating the songs fine and then I went to bed. When I woke up in the morning, it was in recovery mode and had the error 1 message. When I tried to restore it, it wouldn't let me because of this error message.
I called Apple and they told me that it was my fault for falling asleep and that it timed out and went into recovery mode. They told me that the only thing I can do is pay for it to be fixed or a new one. It is extremely frustrating that you can't get it out of recovery mode and that it automatically chooses that for you. It was working perfectly fine until I wanted to put a new playlist on and now I can never use it again. I tried new cords, new ports and different computer. Restarted my computer and updated my software on my computer and iTunes.
I also find it frustrating that Apply Support blamed me for this issue when I had no choice in the matter! Now it's completely ruined and I can never use it in my car again. I have everything Apple (comp, iPad, phone, new touch) and appreciate their products. However, I really dislike that the support that I got, blame was placed on me and the issue wasn't resolved. It just makes me question if this happens to my new phone, or new iPad- will they be pooched too? I just don't feel comfortable now plugging my devices into my computer if this is going to happen and since you can only purchase Apple Care on a product twice- it's like they have a two year shelf life. Super frustrating!
Has this happened to anyone else? Did you get it o
