Ipod Touch Stuck in Recovery Mode (Not Jailbroken)

I recently had trouble with connecting my ipod touch to my Mac. I would plug my ipod touch into my computer and nothing would happen. I made sure it was not the cable by plugging in my ipod nano, and immediately my computer recognized it. I checked for an update on itunes and I am currently running the most up-to-date software; 9.1.1.
I have recently tried to fix this problem by restoring my ipod. However while attempting to do this an error pops up that says "The Ipod cannot be restored. An Unknown Error Occurred (1611)."
So currently my ipod touch is stuck in restore mode and I cannot get it out of this mode.
Anyone have any ideas?

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode / not restoring

Went to update my ipod touch, then it came up saying itunes has found an ipod in recovery mode, that I need to restore it.
So I go to restore it, it does it's thing, reaches the end of the bar on the ipod then comes up saying that it couldn't be restored.
    Exact message being:
"The ipod could not be restored. An unknown error occured (6)"
So, what do I have to do to get it working?

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194

ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

I was trying to update my iPod Touch (currently 3.1.3), so I downloaded the 4.3.3 firmware (I didn't want to download the 4.3.5) and connected my iPod to my computer, opened iTunes and hit Shift+Restore. Then, I chose the 4.3.3 firmware and proceeded with the restore.

attempted to upgrade to OS8 and my ipod touch is stuck in recovery mode

The best way to get out of this situation is to use a well-known tool called TinyUmbrella.
First of all download TinyUmbrella  http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.in/
Now, making sure your device is connected to your computer, launch TinyUmbrella
It will automatically detect that your iPod is stuck in recovery mode
Select the Exit Recovery button and it should throw your iPod touch out of recovery.
Alternatively, you can right-click on your iPod name from a list at the side
of TinyUmbrella and select Kick out of recovery.

  • IPod Touch stuck in recovery mode, error message 1611 when trying to restore.

I bought a 2nd generation ipod touch from someone on CL and it appeared to me that it just needed to be plugged into the computer and be synced with itunes. But its stuck in recovery mode. When I plug it into my computer, itunes says it sees the ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. Sout t I click on restore and it tries to restore it, but then it stops in the process and gives me error message 1611. I looked up this error message and it has to do with system security. I messed with my security settings and I still get this message. I tried using my home computer instead of my laptop and it still gave me the same message. Ive also tried holding down the power and home button for several seconds and it still goes back to recovery and gives me the same error message when I try to restore it. Also, itunes recognizes my ipod, but my computer does not.. Can anyone help me? Do I just have to bring the ipod into an apple store and have them figure it out? Thanks in advance!

  • New iPod Touch stuck in recovery mode during initial setup

I am trying to set-up my daughter's new iPod touch 5th Gen. When you try to connect to iTunes message says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes". Even when you disconnect from computer it is stuck on screen telling you to connect USB to computer.  Two of her friends also got this iPod for Christmas and are having the same problem...during initial set-up. I've tried the system updates 3 times. iTunes recognizes the device, but the computer is not recognizing it as a drive. I've tried both my Mac and my Windows PC.  I've tried hard resets.  You can't remap the drive because the device doesn't show up. Most of the apple support topics address if iTunes doesn't recognize the device in conjunction with it not being recognized by the drive.  Obviously a problem with the new update because several brand new iPod touches wouldn't be having the same problem. Please help if you've found a solution. Happy New Years!

  • IPod touch stuck in recovery mode after iOS 6 update error 6

I wanted to sync my iPod touch with my Mac last night, when iTunes tried to sell me on the iOS 6 update.  I told it to go ahead with the update, and left it alone to do its thing.  When I checked again, it told me the update had failed with error 6, and that I might need to restore my iPod.  The only info I've found about error 6 pertains to Windows security software, and that clearly does not apply to my case.
The iPod is now stuck in recovery mode, and none of the my googling has changed that.  I have tried the various patterns of power and home keys, and have also tried downloads that were supposed to force the iPod out of recovery mode.  How exactly does an update brick a device?  Now I don't mind restoring the iPod, but I need to get my data back.  Loosing the data is not acceptable.  This is not a jailbreak attempt.  I just want my data back, and I don't mind going low-level to get it (i.e. terminal, dd, scripts, ...).  Pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to extract my data and copy it to a disk image with the help of http://code.google.com/p/iphone-dataprotection/wiki/README.  This process is really only appropriate for developers, I regret to say, but for developers the process is reasonably robust.  I still had to read between the lines in one or two places, and make good use of the shell, but I am delighted to have retrieved my data from my iPod.
A lower priority question for me is whether to try to collect my notes and contacts from the assorted .sqlitedb files.  It looks like iFunBox may come in handy if I try to push things back onto the iPod once I restore it.
For anyone who cares to know, my iPod Touch decided to listen on port 2000 instead of port 2222, my /dev/rdisk0sXsY devices had different numbers than expected by dump_data_partition.sh, and I had to find my keychain-2.db file in /mnt2/Keychains on the data filesystem.  But it worked, and that's awesome.

  • TS1538 Ipod Touch stuck in DFU mode, not recognized in itunes after 1602 error restoring.

I've tried all of the: Hold Power button and Home items. It's plugged into the computer, screen is black. Windows sees the apple mobile device driver under devices and hardware. The driver's properties says it's in DFU mode. It was constatnly stuck in Recovery mode showing the CD+music note icon and the 30-pin connector image. Connecting the ipod to the computer, windows makes the connection sound but itunes does not open. Opening itunes, ipod is not recognized.
    It's a gen 1 touch, version 2.? firmware, I think.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer

Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
