Ipod touch stuck on restore

My Ipod touch is stuck in restore mode. We have tried restoring a dozen times and nothing will happen
Any suggestions?

DFU mode is a state DIFFRENT from recovery mode, when connected ipod will not load bootstrap(apple logo) or the iOS. Most people use it for restoring and updating if itunes wont automaticly.
Your iPod become a paperweight at this point because it is difficult to do anything without restoring.
To enter DFU:
Connect the iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone)
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected
Restore as normal.

    - It is unclear if you manually placed the iPod in recovery mode. Try again using:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Then connect to computer and try to restore.
    - Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow a restore.

    - If you can't get the iPod in recovery mode or DFU mode because you can't turn it off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour, try a reset, restore, placing in recovery mode and DFU mode and restoring.

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch stuck in restore mode

My Friend recently gave me his 2nd gen ipod touch that he no longer uses as a gift, i decided to restore it so i could put my music on it and remove all the apps that were on there because i wanted more space for music, while restoring i came across a problem, an error message popped up and said, "The iPod "iPod" cannot be restored, an unknown error occured (2003)." i have the latest version of itunes installed and ive tried everything mentioned in the following article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307219, this ipod was fully functiong before i attempted to restore it and now its stuck in restore mode and will not work at all, i do not feel like paying to talk to an apple representitive to help me with a problem that shouldn't be happening in the first place so if someone could help me here that would be greatly appreciated.

Well i had kinda the same problem. I pressed the wake/sleep button and the home button for 10 seconds. Then it shuts down. You connect it to iTunes and says this iPod was in restore mode, and continues or starts again. Hope can help!

  • Brand New Ipod Touch stuck in restore mode straight out of the box :(

My Daughters xmas pressy .. ipod touch brought from apple online store will not sync to any of our PC's (Vista or XP) , have latest itunes installed ,have tried restore (numerous times) , rebbots, restarts all the usual stuff but restore always fails. Any ideas folks ? Have a very disapointed teenager here at the moment. thanks

Well first just to let you know the "connect to iTunes" screen or also knows as "the usb cable pointing to iTunes" means to connect it to iTunes to initially set the ipod up. Now if you already have done this or dont get the option to try forcing into recovery mode and then restoring the ipod followed in this article. Also make sure your computer and iTunes is up to date with the latest software.
If not i would try connecting it to anther computer with iTunes 9.0.2 installed and then call Apple if that doesnt work since you purchased it from the Apple online store.

    Hope it helps!!

  • IPod Touch stuck in restore. I keep getting two different error messages.

Forgive me if you've seen this question before and if it's already been answered.
I recently purchased an iPod Touch. It turns on but, you can barely see it. The Apple logo appears and then it goes straight to the restore screen. I updated my iTunes and everything and when I go to restore and update my Touch, I get two different error messages. The first one I get states "Error Message (21)." Now, when I go to unplug the USB cord and plug it back into my Touch, I hold down the Home Key. When I go back into iTunes, it starts the update, it now goes into "Preparing to restore". That's when I get another error message with the numbers "2009".
I went to the Support page and tried the troubleshooting steps but, none have been successful.
Has anyone had this problem? And if so, what was the solution?
Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
**Also, I never used a jailbreak. The only reason why I mention this is because no matter how high or low I search the net...every one comes up with a "jailbreak" solution. I don't even know how to go about doing that and I'm not gonna even trust myself trying either.

Make sure the iPod is directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port on the Mac, using the cable that came with it. Also try disconnecting all other USB devices, other than the keyboard and mouse.
Try restoring the iPod touch on another computer.
If the iPod does not restore from another computer, request repair online, make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or call AppleCare.

  • Ipod touch stuck in restore

I bought a used Ipod touch. It worked fine when I first had it. I tried to reset it to factory to load my music into it, and now it is stuck in recovery and won't reload. I've gone through what I think is all the possible fixes, is there anything unusual that sometimes works?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

*I was trying to sync my iTouch and it blipped and everything was gone.*
*Now it is in Restore mode permanantly. When I attach it to iTunes, it recognizes iPod in Restore mode, but:*
    1) If I try to use the original ( 1.7.7 ) ispw to restore ( with shift/restore), it fails at *Preparing iPod for Restore* and says *iPod can not be restored. Error [various]*
    2) If I try to restore to the new (3.0) ispw it fails with *Network Time Out*
    3) If I try to use the 3.0 which I have already downloaded ( with shift/restore) another error #1431 occurs during restore.
    4) I can not update to iTunes 8.2 as when I try it gets to the end and then says that it can not access the registry key for 'itpc' or similar due to permissions, when I open regedit to look at these keys I also get an error saying that I cannot access the keys due to permissions. I have tried opening in admin account and still "permissions not allowed", I have tried running iTunes though admin, still the same. I also can not alter the permissions even when I am at the highest permission level.
It isnt even seen by iTunes unless I enter DAC mode. Then it askes to restore it but fails every time!
+The USB has no faults showing and I updated all of them to be sure.+
+Everything was fine before this. Running firmware 2.0 or 2.2 ( cant remember or access it ).+
+I dont want to delete the iTunes as Im worried it wont be able to install again and I will lose everything. ( and thats ALOT!)+
+I REALLY need my iPod.+ I use it for work, +I work with disabled children as my 'real job'. IT is just extra $. _All my contacts, emailing etc is trapped now in a iTunes that just refuses to work_.+

What type of security software suite are you running on your Vista computer? If it is one of the commercial ones, Norton, Mcafee, or the like, you are most likely suffering from the over zealous nature of these programs.
Are you sure you have top level admin access on your Vista computer. The fact that you can't use regedit to remove keys bothers me somewhat. But this is something for you to worry about. Here's what I would suggest you do:
    1. Remove all Apple software from your computer - iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Mobile Device Services
    2. Reboot
    3. Disable your firewall and virus checker.
    4. Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
    5. Re-download the 3.0 update
    6. Plug your iPod in and install the 3.0 update
If everything is working, then you can re-enable your virus checker and firewall software.
The most likely reason you have had all of these problems is the fact that Apple software needs to "phone home" during the firmware install. If it can't do it because of your firewall, then you are going to get various error messages and no success. The anti-virus software often prevents complete downloading of a file - again leading to errors.

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194

ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.
