IPod Touch stuck trying to shut down

I tried to power off my iPod Touch (hold the top button down, wait for the "slide to power off" to appear and do the slide) and now all I see is the spinning icon and the iPod is hung.  It is not responding to any buttons on the device.  It seems that it is stuck somewhere in its shutdown routine.  Any idea how to actually shut it off.  I've held the home and power buttons down for like 2 minutes.  nothing.  Its been in this state of trying to shut off for over an hour.
Tried connecting it to a computer.  The computer ignores it.
Any ideas other than wait till the battery dies?

Not that I know of.  You can continue to try and reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together, or connecting it to iTunes in recovery mode, but that's it.  Here is more information on getting your iPod into recovery mode.

  • Ipod touch randomly tries to shut down

So lately whenever I'm on my Ipod it randomly tries to shut itself down. The red button pops up asking to swipe to shut down, and when I hit cancel, it pops up like 5 seconds later. It was recently revived from the white screen of death, so is that why it's acting so wierd? Do i have to take it in to be repaired? This is really starting to bug me.

You can try the dstandard fixes:
    - Reset. Noting is lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If you still have a probme then an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod touch 4th gen is shutting down and not playing music?

    so here is the story:
lately my iPod touch 4th gen will become frozen, or slow whenever i am using it. However within the last 2 weeks it has shut itself down completely (even though there was always more than half charge) 3 times and won't allow me to turn it on for about 2-3 days. It also will not play music anymore, and instead is either silent or sounds of static. I am just wondering if there is anyway I can fix it or if I need to buy a new iPod.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod touch 2G 8GB randomly shuts down app. Clues?

My battery is has full life when this happens and I still have 3GB of unused space. It does not shut off the iTouch, it only shuts down the app and brings me back to the home screen. This generally happens when I am watching something on Netflix, playing Scrabble (which I purchased) and playing Words with Friends (which I purchased). I actually had to take the Words with Friends app off of my iTouch and then reload it to get it to work. I also took some music off to see if that would help these apps. So far, still having issues. Does anyone know why this is happening?

It is essentially impossible to determine the cause to solve try:
    - A reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defulats/new iPod.

  • HELP Ipod is stuck, will not shut down or respond to any button pushes

my ipod suddenly will not do anything, I was playing it & skipped to a track on it & it got stuck, the screen shows now playing but it is not doing anything, I cant get it to shut down play etc, or respond to any button click wheel pushes. I can feel it vibrating in my hand, I have plugged it in to itunes & nothing, it does not see it nor does windows. it has been working good so far, I just got it off ebay from someone 2-3 weeks ago. I have been using an inexpensive usb & AC charger with it, I did not see any reason to pay more for other branded usb & ac power adapters. I can feel it vibrating when I press the buttons but nothing happens.
I need some input soon, I dont want it to burn out.

what is causing it to crash? is there anyway to prevent it? I am using an inexpensive USB cable & AC power charger, can this cause problems? is there any difference between the cheap ones & the more expensive ones? I did not see any reason in paying 30.00 odd dollars for items that I can get for about 5.00 to to the same job, charge & sync my ipod. I have also just bought & been using an apple ipod radio remote to listen to FM radio, can this cause any problems?
Do skipping around to different songs & albums & sections on my ipod cause problems? is this bad for the hard drive?
when I 1st got the ipod, & hooked it up to itunes, I did not have to register it or anything, itunes just synced my library to it, in the info section on my ipod, it reads format; windows, & I am on a windows PC so it seemed ready to go.
do I need to do anything else to it now? it seems to be working now.

  • Ipod Touch not syncing and/shutting down Windows 7 x64

I recently upgraded my HP Pavilion to Windows 7 Home Premium, from Vista Home Premium and have been experiencing a major problem with the connection of my iPod touch to my computer. The iPod is a 16GB (ver. 3.2.1(7D11)). The issue is that my iPod won't sync anymore to my computer. When I connect the device, iTunes opens and starts to sync. About 20 seconds later the iPod shuts off and the computer restarts...blue screen...and reboots like nothing happened. Error reporting shows a "Video Hardware Error" with a bunch of information about the problem. I have searched and searched for different solutions (reinstalling iTunes, going in from a different user account on the computer, deleted certain files or resetting settings) with no results that remotely fix the issue. It's to the point now that the iPod won't sync at all and I have no way to get new music, etc onto the device. Any thoughts?

Found a fix...this is a hotfix that is through MS and spans multiple posts. It's a USB hotfix for people needing to fix many issues (external HD, thumb drives, ipods, etc...). Things to remember, this hotfix is for Win 7 with certain parameters, please read the posts for seeing if your machine is applicable to the hotfix. Also, USE INTERNET EXPLORER for all downloads and fixes through MS. For some reason Firefox send incorrect data to MS. Below is the link the the hotfix discussion. Mark, a MS Pro Tech is on that really helped get this going. I hope this works, two sync's in and we are all square. Thanks for your patience.

  • IPod Touch Apps Freeze, Then Shut Down

All of a sudden, when I try to open some of my applications (like Safari and Notes), they open, then it is blank for a second like it is trying to retrieve information, but then it exits out of the application and goes back to the home screen. I have tried restarting the iPod with no luck. My mail application and some others work with no problem. What is wrong with it? Thanks for any help.

to be honest Doc, I don't think the model/generation matters here.
app crashing is a common problem. two suggested solutions:
    1. download a new app (any app) - sounds daft but people have said it works
    2. reset the ipod (hold down the home and sleep buttons until the silver apple comes up on screen

Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.

  • I have created an iTunes account on my current computer for my daughters ipod touch and tried connecting my ipod nano and it won't sync and says that it is associated with another iTunes library so how do I merge the two libraries?

I have created an iTunes account on my current computer for my daughters ipod touch and tried connecting my ipod nano and it won't sync and says that it is associated with another iTunes library so how do I merge the two libraries?

    You do not merge libraries.
iDevices sync to one and only one computer.
If you want a single library, you manually move the content from one library to another... all content will still be associated with the Apple ID it was acquired with.

  • My caps lock was stuck and I shut down. Now it's coming back up in safe boot and asking for a password. It won't take my password, I believe because of the caps lock problem. So, how can I get in?

My caps lock was stuck when I shut down my computer. It is coming back up in safe boot (I had spilled liquid on it).
It's asking for my password - which has some lower case letters...So now how can I get in?
Is there a way to change this password or something?
I have a wireless keyboard, but it wasn't set up - so, It's not recognizing it.
    Any ideas?

Take your computer to get the keyboard replaced, your lucky it didn't trigger the moisture sensor and brick your machine, so your chances of the machine working well after the keyboard is replaced is likely very good.
As long as the main keyboard is sending a caps lock signal, it's not going to work even if you get in.
If you need to remove files off the internal drive, use a Firewire cable (800 to 400 adpater may be needed) and hold T to boot the problem Mac into Firewire Target Disk Mode and connect the cable to another Mac, the hard drive will appear on the desktop which you can then remove/erase files.

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194

ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.
