Ipod touch syncs but doesn't show in itunes

My iPod Touch syncs when first connected.  But then it doesn't show up in the iTunes menu under devices anymore.  Apple troubleshooting takes me in circles.

  • Ipod touch charging but not being seen in itunes

ATM, I've restarted my ipod touch up to 5 times and reinstalled itunes at least 2 times completely. Still, I get the error:
"Itunes could not connect to the Ipod because an invalid response was received from the device."
My mac is updated (unless you count the spending safari update!) I also tried it with my co-workers iphone and I get a similar response. Itunes lags for a moment, and then the error pops up. Both devices acknowledge that they are connected to USB and start charging.
I plugged my ipod touch into a family member's mac and itunes recognizes it there. Please help me out?

Did you also reinstall Apple Mobile Device Service? See this article how to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747

  • HT1296 I am trying to sync my ipod to my computer thru itunes, I have already successfully synced my ipad, but keep getting stuck on the sync for the ipod it identifies, the device appears to be syncing but doesn't show up my new music or my new playlist?

I am trying to sync my i-pod to my computer thru itunes.  I successfully synced my Ipad thru the computer, but am trying to do the same with the Ipod.  The device shows up on my computer and appears to be syncing, but nothing changes.  I have tried dragging the new music to the device, but a symbol appears with a slash thru the middle, as if denying access, any suggestions what to try next.  I have synced on this Ipod succesfully in the past, Suggestions?

To drag and drop you have to use the Manual Method. That method is included here:

Was the iPod set up by wifi or setup or synced to another computer/iTunes library?

  • Music is on my iPod touch 1G but does not show up in the Music App

Been having this problem the last week. I synced my iPod before I went to bed, grabbed it and headed off to work on Tuesday. Once I got to work I went to use my iPod and when I opened the Music App a screen popped up saying "Updating Library...This may take a few minutes". I didn't think much about that as I have seen it a number of times after I synced quite a bit of new music or podcasts(the night before I had 3 new hour long podcasts that synced).
Set my iPod to the side as that usually does take a minute, turned back and the screen said "No Content" and then some line about buying music in iTunes. I was quite surprised as I had never seen this screen before. I turned my iPod off and back on and the same No Content message.
I checked my Photos App and those were still there and so were all my saved photos that don't sync. Checked some of my other apps and the settings and saved data was all there too.
Finally got the idea to check the About option in the Settings. Knowing that it would list how many songs and how much space was free. Opened that up and it said 0 songs but that I only had 1.4GBs of free space. Which tells me that my music is on the iPod but just isn't being recognized.
Got home that night and synced it and once done I checked it and my music was there. Friday this all happened again and I have not been able to get my music to show up again even though my iPod tells that I have 12GBs of something on there going by what the About page tells me.
The only change I have made is I finally updated from just Itunes 10.0.X to 10.1.4 on 12/20 of last year. I have a iPod touch 1G that is running 3.1.3.
Last night I did a restore and created a whole new iPod but the same issue has happened. I watched it sync my ~2800 songs but when I went to check them, No Content but the About page tells me there is 12GBs of space being used. Right now I am going to a back from from June of last year to see if that works but I doubt it. I also have an old install of iTunes 10.0.1 that I think I might try.
What else could be the problem?

Which version of iTunes are you using?

My iPod touch tells me that it has three bars but it still cant load the internet??
    please help

    Hi there "goonts",
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Now then, connecting to the internet is actually fairly straight forward, most people do it without really trying but it is very long winded to explain.
You haven't given much information in your post and I really don't want to start a thread of "to and fro" posts which starts something like -
Me - "is your router turned on?"
You - "What is a router?"
The fact you see "three bars" is a start but only means that your Touch is detecting a WiFi signal, not actually connected.
The best advice I can give at the moment is read through this post here -
    [dowinitjr's wifi guide|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1315137&tstart=0]
Take your time and I'm sure you will be set up in no time.
    Regards,
    Dud.

  • Music is on the shuffle but doesn't show in iTunes

Okay. I've never had this problem before; I've got a 160GB iPod video and an old pink mini, both of which work fine with my computer(s) and iTunes.
My problem is the shuffle. I got the 2GB one brand new, straight from Apple. I keep all of my music on an external drive. When I first hooked up the shuffle along with the external drive it had a major freak out and one would disconnect the other one every time I tried to use both at once. So I googled, read that sometimes you can't have other things plugged in at the same time as the shuffle. Ended up hooking both to a USB hub and they worked perfectly together.
Plugged the shuffle back in today and there was no music listed on the shuffle in iTunes, however, it said that I had used up however many megabytes, with 71 songs on the shuffle. (You know the little bar down at the bottom?) Ejected it, hit play, and the music is all there. Reconnected, added one song, and it wiped out everything on the shuffle. So I readded everything I had on there, ejected, made sure I didn't have any playback problems, reconnected, and now the same thing is happening again. The bar shows that I've used the space but doesn't list any of my music. I haven't tried to add any more songs because I don't want to go through readding all of that stuff again right now.
So, any thoughts? I disabled automatic syncing for all of my iPods, and I don't use the autofill option. I've only used one of my computers to add music so far, and haven't had any problems adding purchased content.
Any help would be greeeatly appreciated. And if anyone is in need of a visual for what I'm talking about, screen caps are here:

but the iPod shuffle doesn't show up in the drives section so I can't change it to begin with.
Per the article above, you don't start with changing the drive letter of your iPod. You start by changing the drive letter of your networked volume (usually, an external drive).
    "Resolution
    Solution
This issue is documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base document 297694, "New Drive or Mapped Network Drive Not Available in Windows Explorer".
Changing the drive letter of your network volume should resolve the issue. If you are unable to change the drive letter of the network volume because your programs depend on a specific drive letter, then you can use the following steps to change the drive letter of your iPod instead.
Important: Changing the iPod drive letter may not affect what letter the iPod uses on subsequent connections, so it is not the best long-term solution. If you are unable to change the drive letter of your mapped network drives, contact your system administrator."

  • IPod cord charges, but won't show in iTunes.

I'm having a really weird problem with my iPod. I'm not sure if the cord is broken or the data terminal on the iPod is. When I plug my iPod into my computer it doesn't charge or show up in iTunes, but if I push at the cord upwards it'll charge, but never show in iTunes. If I push at it and hold it up it'll show in iTunes and charge as well. This happened suddenly. I never dropped the iPod nor had the cord bent at a strange angle before this. Tell me what I should do?

  • My ipod will charge but does not show in itunes or windows

I tried to use my ipod as a disk to transfer my itunes library from my desktop to my notebook (both Dell), now my ipod charges, but does not show up in itunes or on either of my computers. I have used the advice of going to control panel and unchecking the box under power management but that didn't work, CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PLLLEEEEAAAASSSSSSSEEEEEEE HELP ME?
I have windows xp on one and vista on the other, if that helps.

This worked for me, don't know if it will for you. Have ITunes open. While IPod is connected to computer press(at the same time) the menu and center buttons until your screen goes black and shows the apple icon then immediately press the forward button. Your IPod should show up. It won't hurt to try it, even if it doesn't work. Hope this is of some help to you.

  • Music sync but doesn't show up

Tonight I went to add about 130 songs to the ones already on my iPhone. There was about 834MB left before the sync, after the sync, 200MB. After the sync, the music no longer shows up on the phone and of course it won't play. The memory is used but in the about screen it shows 0 songs 0 videos. I remove the songs using iTunes and the space all shows as free. I add one song only and it shows no songs on the iPhone again. This is on a MBP with Tiger and 1.1.2 on the iPhone.
I went and synced on my XP laptop, I restored and then synced, all music shows up and plays perfectly now that I have lost all my settings on my MBP iPhone backup.
How can I get my music to show up on my iPhone that I sync on my Mac?

I'm not sure I understand what you say when you say you don't want to make a new library but fix the old one -- fixing the old one basically is making a new one.
I'd do this -- select all the songs in your library and press delete. Answer "no" to removing them from your hard drive. Then just drag and drop your songs into that library and all will be well.
