Ipod Touch - turn off slider appears on startup and ipod won't play music

Hoping someone can shed some light on my problem.
The two problems I have are:
1) the red Turn Off slider appears immediately on turning the iPod on
2) when the play button is hit, it automatically pauses immediately.
The problems in detail:
I have a 2nd generation iPod touch that was working fine until I updated to 3.1.2 firmware. It worked fine for a few hours and then the touch screen began behaving weirdly. First, it wouldn't allow me to slide the unlock slider across the screen, and then when it finally would let me, it basically accessed random apps and moved randomly between the app home screens. All of this was jerky and erratic and it looked as if my iPod had gone schizo!
I took the iPod to a Genius at the Apple Store, but when I arrived the problem had fixed itself (at least, the random accessing of apps etc), but I noticed that on startup, the red turn off slider would appear immediately. After canceling the slider, I went to play some music. Immediately after hitting play, the ipod paused. Repeated attempts yielded the same results. It won't let me press play or listen to any music, regardless of whether it was iTunes purchased, an audiobook, podcast or whatever. You hit the play button, it turns into a pause button for a split second and then reverts back.
I have tried restoring the iPod a number of times on my computer and other macs (I'm running 10.5.8 OS X and iTunes 9). I have also done a couple of option+restores, having downloaded previous firmware versions (3.0 first, then 2.2.1). Both attempts left me with an error message (20). I am going spare about this and would really appreciate any advice!
There is one thing that worries me. I have been told by the Genius I spoke with that the moisture indicator inside the headphone jack shows that it has been exposed to water. Would this result in the above described problems? Everything else seems to work fine. I have even managed to get YouTube back after fiddling with the date settings (i.e. setting the date to 2030 and then back). I want to either restore my iPod to a previous firmware version that worked or make the update that I paid for work the way it should!
I appreciate any suggestions!

this happened to me. I figgered that after you play apps like games which r side ways causes this for example nba live lite it caused the problem to me same when the slider stays in one spot i see that apps cause this problem. i just figgered it out cause it happens allways after certian game apps or other app. To fix this test all the apps and see and delete the ones which cause this but not all apps which r side ways cause it. I hope this helps

My iPod will not play music on any dock.  It will still charge on a dock though. The docks all work with other iPods, just not mine.  I have tried to reset it by pressing down on the home and power buttons but it didn't change anything.

Are the other iPods 4G iPods with iOS 6.1.3?
If it worked before with 6.1.3 then:
    - Make sure the i{od is fully sated in the dick
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • Ipod Won't Play Music After 4.02 Update

    Hey guys,
I just updated my Touch to 4.02 and now I'm having problems playing music and other sounds. At first, the Ipod would play though the built-in speaker but when I plugged in headphones the volume control disappeared and music/sounds would not play. I reset my Ipod and now it's the opposite; volume controls disappear and sounds won't play when I unplug headphones.
This is really frustrating as the update really didn't help me any it just keeps me from jail-breaking my Ipod, it's pretty ridiculous. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a similar issue. I can't get the sounds to play on the internal speaker on the iPod but they will play when headphones are plugged in. It appears that the software thinks my headphones are plugged in when in fact, they are not. Help!

    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod won't play music or video, other than that it works fine

My ipod 60gb 5.5 gen wont play music or video. I took it to an unexperienced ipod repair centeer and they couldn't figure it out. I took it to an apple store and they said that it was probably the hard drive but weren't sure. I can use this ipod as a hard drive. It will store and transfer files at full capacity. It also will auto scroll through pictures. If the hard drive had malfuntioned then wouldn't I have trouble using it as a removable hard drive? When I select a song to play, it shows album art work but remains at 0:00. I have restored it. When I did a diagnostic run, it didn't show the hard drive in the options for testing. I can repair my ipod myself. I'm talented but I need to know what part to buy first.
    Help!

  • How to turn off home sharing on iphone and put all of my music in one place?

I have the iphone 4 with ios7.  I have Rihanna's Unapologetic cd that I ripped to itunes a while ago.  Today I synced my entire music library to my iphone.  The only way I can find the album by Rihanna is if I go to the home sharing on my iphone and choose my computer library! I'm getting really frustrated because I don't understand why I can't just have all my music in the music library and nowhere else?  Also, all of my music appears to be on the cloud which doesn't make sense to me.  Especially because I synced it all from my computer so why do I have to download to my phone again? Basically itunes is doing too much.  Oh, and every time I sync my music itunes always deletes my playlists from my phone.

    Consolidate your iTunes Library
As for the other part of the question, iTunes syncs with Apple devices.
Simply copy the media desired from the computer to the microSD card.  This has nothing to do with iTunes.

  • 1st generation ipod won't play music

I have a first generation iPod that I have never really used before, but would like to use now.
I downloaded iTunes 11 to see if it will work.  iTunes recognizes the device and allows me to set certain options.
It also has several times said that it has synced with it.
But nothing will play on the iPod, i.e. no sound will come out.
Also, there does not seem to be anyway to show what songs are on the iPod, only what is in the iTunes library.
I have restored it to factory defaults with no difference.
    Any suggestions?
Does iTunes 11 work with 1st generation iPod.

This is the 1st gen iPod shuffle, that looks like a white USB flash drive, with a built-in USB plug?  FYI - This document shows the four shuffle models
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1719
If it's a 1st (or 2nd) gen shuffle, select it in iTunes.  Toward the top of the iTunes window, there are two buttons that say Settings AND On This iPod.  The Settings screen is probably what you already used, "to set certain options."  Click on On This iPod.  This screen shows a list of songs that are currently on the shuffle, and you can use this screen to remove songs from the shuffle (and change song order), once you have songs on it.
At the bottom of this screen, there are Autofill controls.  That is one way to load the shuffle.  You can "automatically fill" the shuffle from your iTunes music library, or from a playlist.
To add individual songs, drag songs from your iTunes library and drop them on the shuffle.  The easiest way to do this is to use the iTunes sidebar (along left side of iTunes window).  If the sidebar is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  Find the shuffle in the sidebar, under the heading DEVICES.  From your iTunes library, drag songs (or other audio items) and drop them on the shuffle.

  • Help, ipod won't play music or connect to p.c folder icon and exclamation

Been having loads of problems with my second generation ipod.
Everytime I tried to update it, it would start putting the songs on then say ipod session timed out and wouldn't work.
I thought that updating my ipod software might be the answer but when I tried to do this the updater said 'Firmware update failure. Disk write error.'
I then tried reseting and restoring my ipod but now every time I try to play my music it comes up with a file logo and an exclamation mark. I can't play any music.
I would be soooo greatfull if someone could tell me how to sort out this problem cos it's doing my head in and I really would like to be able to use my ipod again.
    Thanks.

  • My ipod won't play any music

My ipod won't play music. I tried playing music with and without headphones and when my ipod is in the dock, but it said music was playing except there was no sound. Can anyone help?

Do the headphones work in another device?
Does the iPod play any sound?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset . Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • My iPod touch won't turn off. I tried and the turn off slide button in stuck in the of position, but it's still not turning off. It's been a few days please help!!!!

My white 4th generation iPod touchs turn of slide button is stuck on off but my iPod won't turn off for some reason and it only shuts off when the battery dies. It's been stuck like this for some time. Please please please help!!!!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Ipod touch screen went black and then started flashing. Then the turn off slide comes up.

Ipod touch screen went black and then started flashing. Then the turn off slide comes up. Restored multiple times and didn't work. Ipod works with Itunes fine (can put music and podcasts on the ipod), but can't take songs off of the ipod. Using windows xp and everything is up to date. Any ideas of how to fix it?

I didn't know that it was posted three times. My computer didn't say that it posted anything.
My ipod still syncs to itunes and I can put podcasts and music on my ipod, but I can't delete songs after I put them on the ipod. When I try to delete songs I try to delete it from the main music list on the ipod. It's also doing all the other stuff that I posted before. The screen will go black and then the power off slider thing shows up for a few seconds, then it'll show the unlock slider bar. Then goes black again. It will also do that when I have the ipod unocked and changing songs or playing a game. I've restored it to the factory default/new ipod and it still does the same thing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and then restored it again to the factory default and it's still doing the same exact thing. I checked and my computer is up to date.

  • Why does my ipod touch turn off and not turn on for a while

every once in a while my ipod touch turns off and wont turn back on for a day or two. So why does it do this, it is from over use of the ipod?

Try the following fixes in order:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPOd to factory defaults/new iPod
If yo still have the problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Sorry, but if you see the "connect to iTunes" screen on your phone, the only option is to restore, backing up the phone is not possible at this point, even importing the photos might not work anymore.

  • HT1430 I held the sleep/wake button for a full minute, and only the Power Off slide appeared.

I cannot access the power off slide because there is a pop-up message saying "Cannot connect to iTunes store" to which I cannot select the OK button. How else can I power off the iPad2?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and the On button until the iPad shuts down. If the Off slider appears, ignore it. This should take about ten seconds, give or take. Once the shut down completes, use the On button to restart.
