IPod Touch turns on but stays at Apple logo

My son just bought an iPod Touch on eBay which he received today. The device turns on but will not go past the Apple logo. I have tried the recommended power/ wake button combinations, but nothing. When I leave it switched on, it will periodically flash the home screen, but that is the only other sign of life we get from it. Any ideas will be gratefully received.
David

Try using recovery or DFU Mode to get the unit recognized in iTunes.

my ipod touch refuses to go past the apple logo. i turned it off with both the sleep/wake and home buttons but it immediately turned right back on without me making any attempt to turn it back on. my ipod will not even turn off with the sleep/wake button fyi. i just did an update through itunes with the ipod plugged in and when the update was finished/finishing my ipod went to the apple logo.
update: my ipod flashed white, turned off, then turned back on- yet again the apple logo.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My ipod touch would not go past the apple logo, it would just shut off. i held the power and home keys and connected to itunes

my ipod touch would not go past the apple logo, it would just shut off. i held the power and home keys and connected to itunes but now its on the connect to itunes picture and shuts off on its own. even if i try and shut it off myself it won't. it only stays on for about 3-5 minutes:( please help!!!

When it shows the Connect to iTunes screen and you connect it to iTunes, have you tried restoring it?
This should solve your problem because the most common cause of your issue is a software glitch that is preventing your iPod from completing it's boot sequence. Restoring it will replace the software on the iPod with a fresh set so it can be used again.

  • My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo

My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo (unless the battery is dead, Then it tell me to charge it).  Once it gave me the connect to itunes screen.  I clicked restore in itunes but the ipod went back to the apple logo before the update download finished. I tried calling apple but my over the phone technical support just expired. PLEASE HELP!

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

  • My iPod Touch turns on but wont load past the Apple?

Does anybody know what has happened? I tried downloading some updates for my apps & the whole thing went blank for a moment, then the Apple appeared as if it were re-booting. Casually I waited, but it's now been stuck for about 30 minutes, I've since seen it flicker white & have attempted resetting it multiple times.
Should I just try to let the battery die & try resetting again then? Or is there something I can do immediately?

    There here:
iPhone and iPod touch: Frozen and unresponsive
If not successful, do as you said, let the battery fully drain and charge and try again.

  • IPod touch turns on but won't connect or charge

I have a 1st gen iPod touch that has suddenly stopped charging and won't connect to my iMac even though I can turn the iPod on and use it without any problems.
When plugged in via USB it won't mount or connect to iTunes. I tried this via my USB hub and also directly into the back of my iMac. Both the hub and USB port worked with other devices plus I used two different USB cables as well so the problem is with any of those.
The charging indicator also doesn't appear when I have it plugged it. I even tried it using a Firewire cable into a wall charger. I also tried connecting to my Mac using that Firewire cable and still no luck charging or connecting.
The connectors must shot on the iPod, it is a 1st gen after all. I just want to make sure I've tried everything to get it back in working order.
The other thing is that if the connection is shot how can I go about fully wiping the iPod before recycling it if I can't connect to my Mac?
    Thanks.

  • My ipod touch turns on, but it says disabled

my ipod touch will turn on, but it says that it is disabled and please connect to itunes, i do but itunes doesnt recognize the ipod.

try restoring the device in DFU mode. while connected to the computer and itunes open, press and hold the power button and home button at the same time and count to 20 then release the top power button while continuing to hold the home button. the screen on the ipod should still be black and you should see a message pop up on the itunes window. follow steps on screen and restore from there

my ipod touch wont start up. it stays on the apple logo

Try #2 and #3 in link below. If neither work, you most likely have a hardware issue.

  • When I try starting my iPod touch, it won't start; the Apple logo comes up for a few seconds, and then, it just shuts off. I tried to charge it through an outlet; the iPod didn't even charge, so I tried to restore my settings on my computer. iTunes won't

when i try starting my IPod  it won't start, the Apple logo comes up for a few seconds, and then. it just shut off . I tried to charged it through an outlet, the IPod didn't eve charger so I tried to restore my setting in my computer, i tunes won't

But that requires the computer to see the ipod. I am having the same problem and I keep being told to restore it, but you have to either get the ipod to turn on or have the computer see it in order to so that. Right now I have a pretty useless 32GB ipod touch cos I cant get the thing to turn on! I can only get the apple logo for like maybe 20 seconds and it goes away. Ive charged it for days on a wall charger, on the computer usb charger, and on a speaker charger. Nothing works.

  • Ipod touch 5th gen, gets stuck on apple logo.HELP!

I guess I will just start from the beginning. FIRST OF ALL I HAVE ALREADY TRIED RECOVERY AND RESETTING PLEASE DO NOT SAY THAT! My iPod touch 5th generation was dead and i left it dead for a day or so before recharging it, I just hadn't gotten around to it and left it in a bag from my trip. When i plugged it in it looked like it was going to turn on, but it just showed the usual apple logo and then shut off again. After letting it charge a while longer, i unplugged it and tried to turn it on, still nothing. I plugged it into my laptop, nothing. I tried a different charger, nothing helped. I even tried resetting it, where you hold both the home button and power button, each and every time i got the white apple logo, and then it shut off again. I kept reading the Apple forum and different things online and a common answer was to put it into recovery mode. Previously, Itunes would not recognize it, but when i held down the home button and connected it, it did and asked me if i wanted recover or update or whatever it asks. I did it, it took like an hour to finish and NOTHING happened. There was no change. I talked with an apple employee and she just gave me pretty much the same answer as everyone else. PLEASE HELP ME! IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TO DO?

Try what  you have not already tried:

  • IPod Touch stuck in a cycle between Apple logo and loading sign, recovery mode not working.

I have a 4th generation iPod touch (I think it's 4th gen) and it is stuck in a vicious cycle. It started by just randomly crashing while I was using it (many of the apps were not functioning properly beforehand). It went to the Apple logo for a little while, and then went to a loading sign for a few minutes. Suddenly, the screen flashed white, and appeared to be turned off. Then it turned back on to the black logo, and the cycle began again. i have attempted many times to put it in Recovery mode, but when I hold the Home and Sleep/wake buttons, it "turns off" but only for a few precious seconds before beginning the cycle again.
Another thing, I never downloaded iOS 6 because I didn't want to lose the old YouTube app. That may be a hindrance.
At first I wondered if it could be a virus, but now I don't think so.
I am very sentimental about this iPod, and I have a lot of pictures and high scores on it that I would prefer not to lose, if possible, however, I'd rather lose that than the whole iPod. I will gladly go to the Genius Bar, but I wanted to see if anyone on here could help me out first.
Any ideas on how to get it working normally again?

I helped someone earlier who had the same problem. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3374810?

  • My iPod touch 3rd gen is stuck on apple logo

My iPod touch 3rd gen is stuck on the white apple logo. It will not manually restart/restore if I hold the power and menu button. It does auto restart about every 15 minutes on its own. If I plug it into my computer, both my computer and iTunes will recognize it and lets me edit its contents, fully syncs without a problem, etc. However, if I try to Update/Restore Ipod iTunes will completely freeze until my iPod autorestarts at which point it will become "unfrozen" and say there was an error communicating with my iPod. I have tried using 2 different computers with the latest version of iTunes. PLEASE HELP!
