IPod touch turns on but won't connect or charge

I have a 1st gen iPod touch that has suddenly stopped charging and won't connect to my iMac even though I can turn the iPod on and use it without any problems.
When plugged in via USB it won't mount or connect to iTunes. I tried this via my USB hub and also directly into the back of my iMac. Both the hub and USB port worked with other devices plus I used two different USB cables as well so the problem is with any of those.
The charging indicator also doesn't appear when I have it plugged it. I even tried it using a Firewire cable into a wall charger. I also tried connecting to my Mac using that Firewire cable and still no luck charging or connecting.
The connectors must shot on the iPod, it is a 1st gen after all. I just want to make sure I've tried everything to get it back in working order.
The other thing is that if the connection is shot how can I go about fully wiping the iPod before recycling it if I can't connect to my Mac?
Thanks.

try restoring the device in DFU mode. while connected to the computer and itunes open, press and hold the power button and home button at the same time and count to 20 then release the top power button while continuing to hold the home button. the screen on the ipod should still be black and you should see a message pop up on the itunes window. follow steps on screen and restore from there

  • My 4th gen. IPod screen turned blue and won't connect to iTunes.

I was playing on some apps and while doing so my ipod screen turned white and then turned completely blue. I tried connecting it to iTunes and trying to restore it but it didn't work! My ipod wasn't connecting to iTunes! I have tried some different ways like trying to shut it off completely but it's not really showing anything. Does anyone have any suggestion to fix it or should I just try to get a new ipod?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My iPod touch 4th Generation will not to my wifi. The network will pop up but when I click try to on it, it just keeps loading. I've restarted the router but I still can't connect. My computer is working fine though. (It's not an apple product though, just the iPod is.)

Try the following to rule out a software problem:

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod Touch turns on but stays at Apple logo

My son just bought an iPod Touch on eBay which he received today. The device turns on but will not go past the Apple logo. I have tried the recommended power/ wake button combinations, but nothing. When I leave it switched on, it will periodically flash the home screen, but that is the only other sign of life we get from it. Any ideas will be gratefully received.

Try using recovery or DFU Mode to get the unit recognized in iTunes.

  • My iPod Touch 2nd Gen 8GB won't connect to Wi-Fi

I've tried resetting the wireless router, resetting my iPod, restoring it even, but to no avail.  What can I do?

Thanks for your response. I didn't know about this -- just tried it, and I was able to load a web site- but then immediately the connection dropped again.  Tried it several more times, and wasn't able to connect again.  About half of my app icons are just white with no images, I wonder if there is a larger problem going on here....

  • TS1591 I just bought a second iPod touch (4th gen), but when I connect the second iPod to my computer it is not recognizing it. How can I have two iPod's set up????

So I had an iPod touch and everything with it is fine. I just bought a second one for my daughter...exactly the same as my iPod. This second one was bought used, but was reset completely before I plugged it into my computer. My problem is... my iTunes does not recognize the second touch as a device! I can't get it to sync, so I can't get any music or anything onto the device. How can I have two iPod touches on my computer? Is there something special that I have to do to get my computer to recognize this second touch as a different device?? PLEASE HELP!!!

    - If you are using the same USB port and the same cable and have iTunes version 10.7 or later on the computer there is something wrong with the iPod.
    - Does the second iPod work?
    - Does it charge?

  • Ipod touch with 2.0 won't connect to 4.11 with itunes 7.7

like many others, once i updated to itunes 7.7 and downloaded 2.0, my ipod touch stopped connecting to itunes on my computer. I followed all of the instructions available and went to the mac store, they told me to reinstall 10.4 then upgrade and reinstall 7.7 which i did, and it still gives the same error message.
    "iTunes could not connect...(0xE8000001)"
    WHAT'S THE PROBLEM!

here's some more info. when i went to the mac store, they plugged my ipod in and it almost instantly responded like it had 2.0. Also when trying to restore my ipod it successfully although very slowly went through the whole process until a certain point, and now it just has the [usb => itunes] screen.
So what we've learned is that it has nothing to do whatsoever with the USB cord or the usb 2.0 hardware that was installed in my Sawtooth G4.

  • My iPod Touch turns on but wont load past the Apple?

Does anybody know what has happened? I tried downloading some updates for my apps & the whole thing went blank for a moment, then the Apple appeared as if it were re-booting. Casually I waited, but it's now been stuck for about 30 minutes, I've since seen it flicker white & have attempted resetting it multiple times.
Should I just try to let the battery die & try resetting again then? Or is there something I can do immediately?

    There here:
iPhone and iPod touch: Frozen and unresponsive
If not successful, do as you said, let the battery fully drain and charge and try again.

  • My ipod touch downloads songs but won't let me select one

My Ipod touch will download songs. When I go to music to select a song all entries are grayed out and will not allow me to select one. What do I need to do to change this so the songs are available to be selected?

To download and install an app the iPod needs storage available equal to about three times the file download size. Thus you need abut 4.5 GB free storage space on the iPod which you do not have.
If you sync from your iTunes library less storage available is required.

  • My iPod Touch 4th Generation 8gb won't turn on and is frozen on the loading symbol/wheel, I tried the method where you hold the home and lock button lots of times and it hasn't worked! What do I do?

My question won't all fit in but it says 'My iPod Touch 4th Generation 8gb won't turn on and is frozen on the loading symbol/wheel. What do I do?'
I've had this problem from about two weeks and I forgot about it, but today I wanted to play on it and remembered that it's not working, I've tried connecting it to iTunes via my laptop but I'm not to sure how to update it because I thought that might fix it, but no luck. I've tried the trick where you hold the lock and home button but nothing happened apart from it just went back to the apple logo and then to the frozen loading symbol/wheel. I need help!

Yes. You can set the payment method to "None" once you log into iTunes on your PC/Mac. I have it set up this way.
